Urban Decay Summer Collection 2010: Urban Decay Summer of Love Palette Review and Swatches

Ok, deets please.  Some of you shared your Urban Decay Friends and Family haul with me but some of you didn’t, for shame! Come on share…

I ordered all four mists for myself and the Eldorado 24/7.

Anyone hauling the Urban Decay Summer of Love Palette?

Urban Decay Summer of Love is an eye palette featuring four of Urban Decay’s general catalog shadows, a mini Urban Decay Sin Primer Potion, and a 24/7 Eyeliner in Bourbon.

Sweet right?

All the shades are pretty nice for Summer wearing and tearing as they lay in the realms of golds and bronzes, what better shades for the Summer right? You get Chopper (glittery copper), Smog (brown bronze), Flash (purple), and Maui Wowie (glittery gold). Shades are all typical Urban Decay formula so they each pack plenty of punch in the pigmentation department.

The good….

The palette has some incredibly great shades for Summer particularly Chopper, Smog, and Maui Wowie which will suit all your sunny, glowing looks come the warm weather. Its a nice portable palette that contains all your shadows plus primer and liner which makes it great for traveling.

The bad….

If you’re old hat to Urban Decay it could prove disappointing because the shades aren’t new. New users or those who don’t have these shades will embrace it with a happy smile but those who are die hard Urban Decay fans will be disappointed at the rehash of colors already available. I felt the Flash was every so slightly out of place with the bronze-y, gold shades as I can’t really pull off the Urban Decay Summer look they created with the palette nor do I really like it so Flash is kinda not fitting so well for me in this palette. Sadly, the shades do contain microglitter, I believe two total have this formula, so it’s a bit of fall out woe if you don’t take out to prep and prime well.

Who Might Love It?

  • Anyone who’s doesn’t have these particular shades in their Urban Decay stash already.
  • Anyone who’s wants to have these shades in one palette for traveling with or taking on vacation with.
  • Anyone who’s new to Urban Decay and haven’t experienced some of their fabulous shimmering shades of shadow.

Who Might Not Love it?

  • Anyone who has these shades in their stash already!
  • Anyone who HATES fall out.
  • Anyone who hates shimmer, glitter, or sparkle of any kind.

Final Thoughts….

I like the palette. The colors are great for Summer in my opinion aside from Flash because as I said it was slightly mixed up for me. I like having the shades in one easy place to travel with however I’m a little sad I already have ever single one that’s in the palette as I’m a die hard fan and have purchased all these colors years ago.

Below I used Maui Wowie on my lid and Chopper in the crease.

Quite nice, great Summer colors, and worth the haul if you don’t have the shades already.

Anyone get it?

Chopper is a favorite color of mine…but since I have the AIW palette, I already have 3/4 of these colors…So I won’t be hauling…although I definitely have been dying to try Bourbon. It’s a cute palette, but I’ll hold out for something brand new.

I hauled the Big Buddah Brush (so excited about this one), 24/7 liner in Dime, Primer Potion in Eden, and 24/7 lip pencil in Ozone. I was contemplating the mist for dry skin, but reviews of it haven’t hit the internets yet, so I held off.

Since I was mean and kept my haul to myself till now, here’s a little bonus haul, courtesy of the Sephora VIB sale: MUFE HD Blush in 13 Smooth Talker, Ojon Hydrating Thickening Shampoo, Ojon Shine & Protect Conditioner, Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 15, and a Murad AHA serum (forgot the name).

Neither haul is too exciting color-wise, but I’m determined to have the best hair and skin EVARS.

Sigh, I was excited about this at first but I’m gonna pass. I need another mini Bourbon pencil like another hole in the head. And the fall-out factor is annoying.

Side note: Muse have you done a review of the UD De-slick?? I have never found a product that actually worked at preventing the oil slickies.

I thought that Flash seemed like a weird choice too – this would’ve been a better palette if it maybe had 8 shadows, and included a blue and a green too :) and maybe Half Baked.

Okay, so I posted my UD haul a couple days ago but I did end up going back for Guardian Angel and 24/7 in Dime. :) my VIB haul is far less interesting (Korres Q&O Primer, Shiseido SPF 60 lotion, and a full-size Fresh Supernova mascara – the mini I got in the Lash Stash was awesome and I think it’s now my fav mascara!)… but I got a 100-point perk of a deluxe mini UD PP in Eden, which I’ve been really wanting to try so I’m pretty excited about that. :)

As for the SoL palette… yah, it’s cute, but I have all those shades in other palettes already and I don’t like the way Bourbon looks on me at all so I passed. I’m tired of Bourbon and Zero always being the ones with the sets…

I just peeked at UD’s site to look at all the shades of ES they have and I wonder why they didn’t pick another purple to put in this palette? I think Ecstasy or Purple Haze would worked much better than Flash (which is a blue/violet purple) with the other warm colors they included. Plus, Rockstar or Crash would been nice touch for a liner, instead of Bourbon, which they’ve put in how many palettes now?

    • 4/12/10 13:53 the Muse:

they do put bourbon and zero in a ton of palettes auro :( I wasn’t thrilled at the purple at all tbh and would have preferred another bronze or gold shade to complete the look :D

Urban Decay shadows always catch my eye, especially the metallics, but I learned long ago that the glitter they so love to include in their shades do not agree with my eyes. :-(
