Avon Glazewear Review and Swatches

Based on mass market sales in 2009, Avon Glazewear Lip Gloss was America’s Number 1 Lip Gloss. Who knew???

May is Avon Glazewear month and Avon is celebrating hard with a $1.99 Avon Glazewear Lip Gloss price tag (regularly $6) plus they are giving away entire sets of the popular lip gloss when you follow @AvonPRNewsFlash (The next giveaway is June 2nd).

Jump ahead to hear my thoughts on this popular lip gloss!

What is it?

A collection of glosses in various finishes, formulas, and colors with an inexpensive price tag, shiny finish, and an SPF 15.

The Good…

Duly impressed.

I played around with Avon Glazewear a while back ago but for the life of me I can’t remember what they were like. Thankfully I got a slew of colors and finishes to try out recently so I could refresh my opinion and my mind about these.

I gotta say for the $6 buck price tag (or the sweet $1.99 deal ongoing now) there isn’t much to not like about these.

They are available in a ton of shades, a ton of finishes, and perform pretty nice all around. Some have shimmer, some are full color, some have a glossy finish, others are a bit matte…you pretty much get a variety to choose from so everyone can find at least one to love.

The glosses lack fragrance or scent of any kind so sensitive skin types can rejoice. The formula isn’t tacky or sticky and wears nicely however not so long so you may need a touch up at around three hours in. One thing that deserves a mention is the fact that these build up beautifully. You can layer on and still have a comfortably lightweight wear.

(From Right to Left: Iced Pink, Darling, and Island Glow)

(From Right to Left: Tickled Pink, Crimson, Intense Plum, Mocha Latte, and Sweet Maple)

(From Right to Left: Apple Cinnamon, Mirage, Dazzling Diamond, Clear, and Brown Sugar)

(From Right to Left: Cherry Liqueur, Rave, and Mauve)

The Bad….

Some gloss finishes and shades perform better than others as I did notice some were very sheer where as others were super pigmented. I also noticed some had a great glossy finish and others had a more drier, matte look. So it is a mixed bag of nuts when it comes to the shades and formulas and how they perform.

Who Might Like Them?

  • Anyone on a beauty budget!
  • Lipgloss addicts!
  • Anyone who likes variety for their buck.

Who Might Not Like Them?

  • Anyone who prefers a more higher end lipgloss.
  • Anyone who wants long wear from their gloss (these wear about 3 hours and aren’t tacky, sticky enough to stick around longer).

Final Thoughts…

I can’t complain too much as the price is super plus I love gloss in any way, shape, or form. These have some fun offerings and keep your beauty budget in check plus some of the shades really pop (check out Cherry Liquor, Crimson, and Intense Plum).

Not going to change my lipgloss life but makes a happy addition to it at this price. I can see myself in the future getting excited when they release new shades.

I predict that it’ll suck for those who like a certain color, but in another texture 🙁

I really liked the glazewear sticks, but I haven’t tried the glosses. Do you feel the color payoff is comparable?

  • Betty

Glazewear is my FAVE gloss, and while I’m glad Avon has kept the line I’m sad they discontinued soooo many other great colors of GW. I have TONS from like a decade ago [yeah yeah yeah, I’m gross], and even though I have bought almost all the new shades [still workin’ on a few, lol] they aren’t nearly as unique as past colors. The formula is still great, though, and ya can’t beat their return policy, soooo…lol!
I do fervently wish all the time that The Powers That Be at Avon would quit DC-ing the truly fantastic products and replacing them with mediocre-to-just plain stupid ones. For example, their perfumes are switched up constantly, and while it’s great fun to try new stuff it completely pisses me off that I get hooked on a scent, then they DC it – AAAACK!!!! They’ve brought back what they consider classics, such as Topaz, Odyssey, and Timeless, and I’m sure there are people who actually like these fragrances, but no one I know who I’ve let sniff my samples did. In fact I think it gave my hubby a headache, because they STINK! They stank back in the day, and they stink now!

    *ahem*

okay, well, I’ll shut my gob now.

    Glazewear lippie – love it!

I agree! I used to buy these often when I sold Avon a few years ago. I’m just returning to the company now and surprised by the current selection (or lack thereof) of the Glazewear glosses. Is it just me or is there too many browns and champagne in this lineup? No offense to anyone who wears those color lip glosses. I’m disappointed that there’s a lack of reds No more Ruby Slippers? :*(

I do like that they have labeled the different formulas like Intense and Shine though. I don’t think they did that in the past. And I’m glad that they do offer this line in mini versions to try before buying the full gloss — awesome!

I’m glad SOMEONE likes them, lol. I won the entire set in a contest today, I can’t wait to try them out – but I was worried that, since I saw so many contests for them, that they must suck really bad for them to be giving them away so freely.

    • the Muse

ha anita you’ll love ’em. kinda a nice selection. I had a contest as well 😀

  • Anita

Woo I got the package a few days ago, they are indeed awesome!
However…I experienced a slight burning sensation when applying some of these…wonder why.

      • Anita

I think it’s from the glitter since the matte/clear ones don’t burn and the less glittery ones don’t burn as much as the sparkle ones…although it doesn’t feel gritty, it just burns a little bit when I first apply it.
