Benefit Summer Collection 2010: Benefit Ultra Shine Lip Shine Review

Ultra: Going beyond others, or beyond due limit; extreme; fanatical; uncompromising; as, an ultra reformer; ultra measures.

Dontcha just love when makeup has the word “ultra” in it? Gets my blood pumping.

Wanna meet Benefit Ultra Shine Lip Shine?

Jump it!

What is it?

Take Benefit Lipgloss and added a brand new brush application and a ton of brilliant shine and you’ll have yourself the brand new Ultra Shine Gloss.

The Good….

Ahhh thick, glossy, and incredibly shiny, I’m thinking Benefit Ultra Shine Lip Shine and I will be BFF very soon. Formula is pretty darn nice on this as it has just the right amount of thickness I desire to make my lips look full plus packs plenty of pigmentation into the mix so I can wear easily alone sans lipstick. The texture isn’t too tacky which is fab as it makes for a rather comfortable wear plus it sticks around for quite a number of hours before needing a touch up, likey! I tried it in Spiked Punch which is a vibrant orange-y peach with a cream finish.

The brush applicator is what really gets me down on my knees singing praises of joy and thanks to the Benefit Gods. I really like brush or spatula applicators as it allows me to build up product in a snap. I find these applicators work much better for application versus a standard, boring sponge.

The Bad….

WTH Benefit? Only available in five shades? Well that stinks. Wasn’t keen on the color I got because of the cream finish so interested to see if any of the other shades contain a bit of shimmer as I can wear that finish easier but I do think most if not all are creams from swatches I seen.

Who might like it?

  • Anyone who likes a thick, glossy lip product.
  • Anyone who wants a long wearing gloss.
  • Those who already enjoy Benefit Gloss as this is similar but on steroids.

Who might not like it?

  • Anyone who wants a variety of color (Five shades really isn’t a whole lot of selection but I’m sure Benefit will release more at a later date).
  • Anyone who doesn’t like a cream gloss (I could be wrong but I don’t think any of the current shades are available in sparkle/shimmer so cream it is).
  • Anyone who doesn’t like thicker glosses.

Final Thoughts…..

I liked the gloss well enough however I’d love to see more of a color selection in the future with a bit of sparkle and shimmer thrown in there or perhaps even have some shades from the regular gloss line available in this new formula. The brush applicator really seals the deal for me as I enjoy this style applicator for glosses which makes the gloss an instant win. All in all a very nice thick gloss with a super finish.

I wish I would have bought this! I was debating between this gloss and MAC love nectar and opted for the MAC. While I do like it, I think Benefit has better color pay off. I guess you can never have too much gloss…Maybe next pay day! haha. Thanks for the review!
