Hard Candy Spring/Summer 2010: Hard Candy Hot Smudge Review and Swatches

Hey chicks!

The Hard Candy Spring/Summer 2010 Collection should be hitting up your evil empire (Walmart) shortly. It’s already available on Walmart’s site but if you wanna avoid shipping costs you can dash over and see if they updated their selection yet with the new line. I dragged myself in store last week but didn’t spot it yet so maybe give it to the middle of the month in some locations.

If you missed the release info check it out here.

Now go ahead and jump ahead for a peek at one of the newest releases from the collection!

Jump!

I got my hands om some Hard Candy Hot Smudge for you today and it’s a fun one peeps. Think Urban Decay Ink for Eyes times two and Hot Smudge is pretty much it.

What is it?

A cream eyeliner/smudge shadow duo in a slick sexy case ala Urban Decay Ink for Eyes complete with a dual ended brush and smudger.

The Good…

So it’s basically the poor girl’s Urban Decay Ink For Eyes, exact dupe except you get more product for less. $22 bucks gets you a single liner from Urban Decay and $5 bucks or so nails you two cream liners from Hard Candy. Which would you choose (Pictured Below, Top Urban Decay, Bottom Hard Candy)?

This comes in six different duo shades which equals 12 color combos. I got mine in Stunt Double which is chocolate brown and royal purple.

The case it comes in is a slim line case with a spot for the applicator and a split compartment that houses the two liners. You can basically multitask yourself silly with the product as it can be used to line and define, applied as a shadow and smudged out, or used as a base. Possibilities are endless really.

Vaguely shocked at the formula as I automatically assumed, it being so cheap, I’d have to deal with lining and relining but no worries. Product is plenty pigmented and one line will do the trick no reason to dash back and load up again as it applies perfectly well the first time sans skipping or smudged up application. The handy applicator makes it easy to smudge the liner out while the slanted tip brush eases the way for a nice straight line that’s thick or think depending on your mood.

The Bad….

I thought the shade selections were a little weird. For example pairing up purple and brown? I dunno seemed rather off. But I will say that Misfit looks awesome (two shades of olive green that contrast from darker to lighter) and I must get my hands on that bad boy. Liner lasted long on me but oily lid and eye users beware as my sis experienced a bit of smudging with this (she has oily woes around the eye area). Also give it a little second to set and dry as it takes a moment and you should be good to go.

Who might like it?

  • Anyone who is lemming Urban Decay Ink for Eyes but simply doesn’t have the cash for it.
  • Anyone who wants two gel liners that they can use to multitask for lining, smudging, and using as a base and/or shadow.
  • Anyone who likes affordable makeup that has some great quality to back it up!

Who might not like it?

  • Oily users may experience smudging, be aware.
  • Anyone who wants a quick drying liner (this takes a second to set).

Final Thoughts…

Total, complete score. You need it. It’s affordable, it does the job (and does it well), and it multitasks like crazy. The product simply works great which is rare for something so cheap.

Nice stuff Hard Candy.

Well done.

Muse Approved for purchase.

Grab all the shades if you can when it hits your Walmart because honestly the six shades will set you back a little more than you’d pay for a single Urban Decay Ink for Eyes. Who doesn’t like that kinda math?!

I want this pretty bad. I don’t have any liners like this…only pencils and two liquid glitter liners…But sadly, my WalMart went through renovations and now Hard Candy is M.I.A.

    • the Muse

omg marina that stinks! you can always order online thankfully 😀

  • Phyrra

Awesome! I keep seeing brown and blue, and brown and purple paired up a lot these days. Kinda odd, you’re right.

          • mercedes

Only 5 bucks? YAY! I am so in for this.

I kinda like the purple and brown combo. I could see using the purple on the upper lids and the brown on the bottom. I can’t wait to see these in person.

  • Kelly Li

Where is it on walmart website? Trying to find the new makeup pouch as well but no luck:-(

    • the Muse

kelly very weird seems to be pulled will update when it’s up again sorry!

    • the Muse

WEIRD megan Spring/Summer was just there a few days ago…now gone..hm! give it a few more days see if they pop up 😀 will update when they do!

  • Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex

That looks AMAZING! I have Urban Decay’s Ink for Eyes in Empire, and was totally underwhelmed–the product didn’t apply smoothly, was expensive, and just overall a bit shoddy. Hard Candy’s looks really fantastic, and I can’t wait to get a couple of them 😛

  • Miss Molly

I’ll be looking for Misfit because I want a good olive liner! I also want to track down the matte powder. By the way, did I tell you how much I love UD Deslick in a Tube? It’s amazing, and I wouldn’t have looked twice at it without your review. I’m afraid the F&F sale made me a UD addict.

    • the Muse

omg miss molly awesome. really loving on deslick too! 😀 so glad you’re enjoying it.

I’m always on the look out for good shades of olive be it shadow, liner, etc…as it makes my brown eyes look really incredible 😀 so def wanna buy this.

I tried the moon glow but not the matte powder yet, will say the packaging is amazing as is the powder for the price. quite impressed. seems like hard candy went above and beyond with the spring/summer collection!

  • Ashleigh

I think this is the first product lately that has made me gasp and shout NEED at my screen. I have a feeling a few of these will have a home in my makeup collection soon!

  • jackieg02

I will be all over this like white on rice. I prefer cream eyeliner over gel and I can’t bring myself to dish out 22 bucks on the UD one. Now this I can get on board with.

I will be stalking my local WalMarts until I find these!! And more than likely, hoard all the colors!

    • the Muse

jackie really a good deal and a great product 😀 worth your $! and def cheaper than UD’s and even better in some ways. UD packaging rocks it but the formula on these kinda even feels a little better than UD’s version 😀

  • Stephanie

I love the brown and purple together actually. I think both colors are gorgeous but I doubt I would buy that particular combo only because I don’t ever wear bright shades like that. I will definitely have to check this product out. I bet it looked really pretty on you!

  • Wendy

Awesome! Been looking for a budget purple liner that isn’t the eBay gel liners, and brown would be fun too… What other combos are there other than the olive? I’m hoping a bright blue!

  • laura r

i love the look of this! i love liner, period. and coloured liner rocks!!!!!
note to self: hit up Walmart before June.

  • Kelsey

LOL! I looked at the picture and thought it WAS Urban Decay

  • Connie

dang! that looked a lot more pigmented that the UD one (which I have and dislike). Now, if only Hard Candy was available online…

  • Christina

Definitely getting this! I always wanted to try colored gel liners but hesitated to throw down the cash for a novelty liner I wouldn’t wear all the time (now my Blacktrack on the other hand). These colors look like so much fun! I can’t wait to stock up at Wal-Mart!

    • the Muse

aw cool christina it’s a great way to inject color into your lining routine and if you hate it at least you didn’t dish out $18 or more right?! 😀

  • Ainabarad

Do you happen to remember what color comes with the black Hot Smudge? (They do have a black one, right? LOL)

Also, did you try this on your waterline? If so, how did it hold up?

I can’t wait to try all of the new Hard Candy goodies!!! Hard Candy is definitely my favorite affordable (aka “drugstore”) brand. None of the others come anywhere close to Hard Candy’s quality (especially with the hit or miss ratio–and I say that having tried practically EVERYTHING they’ve put our since Fall with the exception of these new hotness products), imho.

    • the Muse

hi aina! mmmm trying to think I THINK it’s navy blue and black! Held up well on my waterline but did wear off within 2 hours or so…could be b/c of my allergies/watery eyes.

they really did a great job with the come back couldn’t agree more about quality and price!

  • DINOGOESRAWR

weird…. its not on the hard candy website…. i think it should be at least there, if nowhere else…. it doesn’t even mention the collection! hmm…. is that weird to you?

    • the Muse

not weird at all dino simply not updated yet 🙂 I’m sure the site and Walmart will have shortly. From what I understood it would be beginning of may but now seems likely mid may maybe but will def be there soon. Walmart had the collection up on the site but it’s gone now guess they didn’t have the stock but I’m sure it’ll pop up shortly!

  • Gia

Purple is supposed to bring out the richness in brown. That’s why they are paired together. people with brown eyes/hair are supposed to look amazing in purple… Which I do of course! lols. Sorry when studying design you take wayyy too many classes concentrating on colors. 🙂 Plus purple is big on the runways right now. Go Purple!

I want these! I want the Urban Decay ones but I always stare at it and poke it a few secs then put it back on the shelves. I think because besides UD’s lipsticks, all their products have been a fail for me.

    • the Muse

ha gia you’re a fountain of info 😀 purple really does bring out my brown eyes! Tis true 🙂 aw sorry to hear it about UD at least these are a cheap way to go 🙂

  • Cassie

for the color swatches if Walmart hasn’t updated their site. I’m not affiliated with the site in any way, I was just browsing that before this.

    Nice review! 🙂
