Bobbi Brown Brightening SPF 50 UV Protective Face Base Review

I should hope each and everyone of you is taking proper care of your skin particularly in the SPF area. Please be sure to apply SPF everyday, I can’t stress enough how very important it is to keeping your skin in tiptop shape.

I had was absolutely thrilled and delighted that the Bobbi Brown Brightening Skincare made an appearance in US. The US market isn’t so taken with the idea of whiter, brighter skin well not nearly as much as the Asian market (oddly enough the model in the promo images has Asian features. Guess Bobbi knows her target audience for whitening skincare!) so when I originally saw this collection I wasn’t quite sure it would be available to us. But blessed days! It’s here and available for your purchasing pleasure.

I had my eye on a few pieces from this collection and was delighted to get Bobbi Brown Brightening SPF 50 UV Protective Face Base to try out.

Jump!

Bobbi Brown Brightening SPF 50 UV Protective Face Base is a facial lotion to help protection skin against the harmful effects of the sun with a high level of broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

This ranges in the nicer realms of SPF for me because honestly some SPF’s are just terribly uncomfortable to wear and to layer over your normal skincare regime aren’t they?

The formula is a lotion with a runny consistency which absorbs fully into the skin and does NOT leave a white cast on skin. The lotion pretty much absorbs quick, easy, and simple however it does have the feel of a typical waterproof SPF so you do know it’s on your skin. Although incredibly light weight you can still feel it on your skin.

(LOL sorry my skin is a little stained from my foray with the Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stains)

It has a very strange scent, no not an SPF smell, but more of a cucumber, rubbery chemical smell which quickly goes away after smoothing on. The formula is one of the more comfortable SPF’s I’ve had the pleasure of using as it isn’t sticky or tacky. With continued use combined with other products from the brightening line you’ll see brighter, more radiant skin. I haven’t personally experienced that as of yet but it’s a novel idea for someone like me who’s always interested in brighter, whiter skin.

The SPF level is 50 which is more than substantial for facial protection.

I’m not keen on the smell but it quickly disappears after the SPF is applied!

Price wise this is a little smaller and a little bit more than my normal Shiseido SPF which costs $35 for 2 oz. This is $38 for 1.7 oz. Not necessarily a bad thing but worth a mention.

  • Anyone looking for light weight sun protection!
  • Anyone looking for sun facial protection with a high SPF.
  • Anyone who likes the idea of an SPF that might give them radiant, brighter skin with constant use.

  • Anyone sensitive to smell (it goes away but first sniff is kinda a put off).

I’m nearly done with this tube and have some Shiseido to get through after however I’ll probably repurchase the Bobbi Brown when I’m ready for another round of SPF as I generally like the texture and feel of the product and how it felt on my skin. It’s a friendly, comfortable SPF that I enjoyed using and can easily see becoming a staple.

Loves it!

About how long did this last you? I’m needing something with stronger spf (I love my C&C moisturizer but spf15 isn’t cutting it, I’m getting new freckles on my face weekly)

How would this compare to Neutrogena’s Healthy Defense moisturizer?

    Here is the link:

I’m very intrigued! I will probably need to finish using up my current moisturizers before looking into getting this, though. I’m currently using Neutrogena’s Fine Fairness brightening UV moisture (from Sasa!) SPF 50+ PA+++. I really like it, but kind of wish the packaging was different, and easier to squeeze.

I would like to try BB, but I don’t think I will. I have a feeling I’m going to forget about it when my SPF runs. I love BB but I don’t think of her when it comes to skincare. Currently I’m using either Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid SPF 70 (so like an Asian SPF) when it’s sunny or DDF Oil Control Mattifying SFP (boo only a 15) when it’s overcast.

I’m loving on my Philosophy oil free spf hope. I mix it with vitamin c powder, smooth it on and its gone almmost instantly. With other spf’s I have to wait for ever before applying makeup. I pretty much can go right to make up after applying. I’m a sun tanned girl so I love my spf not so keen on whitening but bright is always good.

Hi! Is this like a typical Japanese sunscreen (that requires shaking) with cyclo-thing-siloxane-things? I was told by an esthetician that those contain lots of waxes that are impossible to wash off thoroughly and contribute to congested skin … I’m still having lots of clogged pores so I’m thinking of getting a non-comedogenic sunscreen. If this isn’t one of those Jap formulas I’d love to give it a try 🙂

mmm no jasmine! although it does have that waterproof feel some SPF’s sport so that could lead to clogged pores…..!

I haven’t tried this one, except testing it out in the Bobbi Brown store when it was first launched. I thought it was quite good and imparted some kind of glow to my skin after application.

But now that you mentioned, you could feel like there is SPF on your skin after its application, this reminds me of the Kiehl’s UV50, the new one from Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions line…..that is another lightweight SPF which has all the properties of this one, except, you don’t feel like you have SPF on after applying Kiehl’s! I just reviewed it in my blog too. 🙂

will have to check out the review vonvon. I think it’s the same one christine (temptalia) was telling me about but she had a bad reaction to it.
