L’Oreal HIP Metallic Shadow Charged and Shocked Review and Swatches
L’Oreal HI Metallic Shadows have a few new shades to collect if you’re a fan. Not sure if these are an limited edition run but check out special displays at your drugstore for the newest shades releasing, I’d say it was around 6 or so new colors. I picked up two of ’em to review.

Cheap as chips metallic eyeshadow that can be used wet or dry and has a super pigmented formula!
Gotta love on these for pigmentation alone. These have incredible color pay off and should appeal to those in the realms of budget beauty who want something with a great formula.
The formula resembles that of a traditional Stila shadow and is much like a loosely packed pigment. Feels like a cross between a cream and a shadow to me on some levels. It’s very smooth and buttery and applies quite dreamy however blending two shades does prove a challenge.
I got two shades which were Shocked (buttery gold yellow and sage green) and Charged (bronze penny and rich chocolaty bronze). You can use the shades wet or dry and although L’Oreal deems them metallic I always find that they apply more frosty with alot of sparkle/shimmer.
Packaging proves awesome on these. Always been a very big fan of the HIP package design as it has the shadows on top with a stealthy bottom for the applicator storage.
Fall out is crazy! You’ll pretty much experience crazy fall out from these no matter how much you prep prior to use or how carefully you apply.
I hate that they look frosty on my lids as I can’t pull off frost so well.
One shade applies dreamy but following up with another sometimes proves difficult as colors tend to not blend well and become muddy, could be my blending skills but I blame the formula in this case!
- Anyone seeking a highly pigmented eyeshadow duo for around $6-$7.
- Anyone who likes shadows that dupe Stila’s popular formula.
- Anyone who hates fall out woe!
- Anyone who doesn’t like shimmery or frosty finishes.
L’Oreal HIP Shadows have come along way and in some cases are quite good from my original view of them which was, “these suck!”. I actually enjoyed both shades I purchased however I wish they blended out a bit better and had a less than frosty finish. Honestly, for the price, I can’t complain much because the formula is a pretty decent dupe of a Stila Eyeshadow if you’re a fan plus you get two shades for the price of one. Not too bad deal particularly if you’re looking for shades to spice up your Summer makeup wardrobe (Charged, awesome Summer-y shade).
