Maybelline Salsa Sun Collection Review: Maybelline Salsa Sun Lipgloss Review

The limited edition Maybelline Salsa Sun Collection should be guest starring at your local drugstores. Keep in mine their are two separate displays for this release one contains the Maybelline Salsa Sun Color Collection and one contains the Maybelline Salsa Sun Lipgloss Collection. All of the pieces in both collections are limited edition so if you find that you’re lemming anything after this review, I’d highly suggest heading out to snag it because the few times I’ve seen the collection it has been very picked over with little to nothing left. Heck I had to visit two separate drugstores just to get some of the color and some of the glosses.

Jump ahead to hear about the Maybelline Salsa Sun Lipglosses!

A range of Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss in limited edition shades (and cosmetics but that review is coming soon)!

I’m far from a lover of drugstore lipgloss but the colors really had me at hello with these. Most of the shades (some not so much) are all warm, spicy shades of color that do give off a Salsa-like feel, welcome to Miami yo!

I ended up with three of the six colors (don’t quote me I believe it’s a total of six LE colors) which were Sangria Sunrise, Salsa Sun, and Fiesta Fuchsia. As you can see from my swatches and photos, these were the warmest of the bunch. The shades are all really bright, warm, and remind me of Summer. Salsa Sun was the most surprising of the three and I picked it up on a pure whim since the promo model was wearing it and it was pop of reddish orange (heavy on the orange please) yet in the tube it’s pure red. After getting it home I thought for sure it would apply as red but nope, actually does apply as sizzling orange-y red, very pretty. Fiesta Fuchsia, contrary to it’s scary name (I’m always weary of anything that says fuchsia) is a sheer pretty shade of warmer pink. And Sangria Sunrise is a warmer coral peach.

This is my first experience with Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss and what impressed me the most is the buildability of the product. The colors all really build up really well so you can layer on product for a nice pop of color. The shades are moderately pigmented (Salsa Sun has the best color pigmentation) but still manage to build up leaving behind nice color on lips.

These are quite long wearing as well which is always a plus in my lipgloss world.

I’m not keen on the formula sadly as it has a bit of the L’Oreal Infallible Lipgloss texture going on which kinda feels like silicone for lack of a better description? It just doesn’t sit so well on my lips and instead of coming across glossy it feels somewhat waxy and uncomfortable.

These lack any sort of incredible shiny or glossy finish so don’t go into it expecting a ton of shine. You’ll get a nice gleam at best.

Packaging could be deemed somewhat cheesy since they don’t have any label on them, it really depends on how you look at it. In some ways the lack of labels or a brand name splashed all over it is nice and in other ways it resembles a gloss that you peeled the sticker off of if that makes sense.

These taste awful in my opinion. It’s a sweet grapefruit orange flavor that just tastes bitter to my mouth!

  • Anyone wanting a warm, fun pop of color for Summer!
  • Anyone wanting a budget lip gloss with decent color payoff (these layer on beautifully so you can get a nice touch of yummie color).

  • Anyone uncomfortable with glosses that contain flavor and fragrance.
  • Anyone who wants a super glossy finish.
  • Anyone who loves nice packaging!

These will set you back $5.79 to $6.50 depending where you shop it and honestly that’s a good deal if you aren’t wanting to spend $14 or more on a gloss. The colors from Salsa Sun are what make them extra special and I don’t regret buying them in the least as they look quite nice with a clear gloss on top (hey, I need a little extra shine). Granted, it would be nice not having to combine products to get the desired results but still the colors, as I said, are worth the extra effort. I probably wouldn’t purchase Color Sensational Gloss in the regular catalog line of colors as the gloss is too uneventful to even bother with but these LE shades did tempt me so I’m happy I indulged. The fact that the product wears extra long along with it’s great price tag and lovely build up ability make it a nice addition for a quickie pop of vibrant color on my lips for the Summer.

Worth looking at even if it isn’t on sale because at the very least you’ll add some really funky shades of gloss to your current stash.

Anyone haul anything from the Maybelline Salsa Sun Collection?

Oh, they’re kinda pigmented, what a pleasant surprise 😀 I might check these out 😛 I love the smell of their Watershine glosses but I dislike the taste… Hopefully I can live with the taste of these!

      Hey Potatisbruden.

They are quite nice. Taste goes away after a while so isn’t TOO too bad 🙂

The colours are just lovely, of course I have no idea if we’ll actually see them in Austria. But if we do I might pick one or two of them up.
