Musings of a Muse: Is the Honeymoon Over?

I dunno about you but I have periods in my beauty and skincare life when the honeymoon is over.

Dig?

No?

Well….

You know that fresh from the package excitement you get when you purchase some new bit of makeup or skincare? The type of excitement that has you convinced that the product is changing the way you look, the way you feel, the way your skin looks, etc…..I swear I have a honeymoon period with every single makeup item and skincare product I’ve ever purchased. This is the time where I proceed to promise said product how I’ll love it for ever and ever and ever and how I’ll never cheat on it and how thankful I am to it for making my face look flawless or making my lips look fuller…

Ahh yes the honeymoon period is such a joyous time.

But like all good relationships the honeymoon periods ends.

Jump!

For me the honeymoon I was having with Lush Skincare (which was a VERY longstanding relationship) is slowly coming to an end. I’ve been with Lush for several hundred years and that’s saying something considering variety is the spice of my skincare life however I depended on Lush for many things and I’ve been so busy testing new stuff that I’ve used it alot less lately.

I also feel like it’s the end of my decade with Lush because I’ve just started using the Philosophy Miracle Worker Collection and want to see what sort of results I get from it. Since Lush doesn’t offer much in the ways of anti-aging I felt like it was time to go back to Philosophy for my skincare needs (I was a Philosophy girl prior to my Lush obsession).

I’m positive the honeymoon is over with a few other things in my life but at the moment Lush sticks out the most.

How about you?

Is your honeymoon period over with your favorite moisturizer? Or that new lipstick you got last week?

Which products are you no longer in a steady, serious relationship with?

Why are you breaking up with them?

Share it!

I remember how I fell totally in love with the lemon scrub/cleanser from Suki. I still adore it but I can’t get myself to buy another jar since it dries down and I have to carve the stuff up 🙂
But more recent, my honeymoon is so over with OPI :/

    • the Muse

HA helena I had the same honeymoon with SUKI!!!!!!!!!!! Oh I think I know why your HM is over with OPI 😛

I used to really love the cheap Wet n Wild lipsticks, bought a lot of them and now they’re just waxey and annoying… ew =/

You are so preaching to the choir!

I feel this way about Philosophy products.. And like a proper dysfunctional relationship.. they pull me back in with a yummy thing time and time again.. Miracle worker pads have caught my eye.

I feel the same way about Serious Skin Care. Ohh how I loved those big ole kits, and the price point was right on target.. and I did see good results with this line.. but the line began to morph and grow so quickly.. so many new things added all the time, that even this long time user had trouble keeping up, and I started to drown in my own stash.. After a jumbo 16 oz glycolic cleanser jumped out of my beauty closet and landed on my toe.. it was time to stop buying and use up and now I am only sticking to the basics of cleanser and serums (current love the Lacura line from Aldi’s.. dirt cheap and they WORK!)

And my beloved Smashbox.. Kit after kit, auto delivery after auto delivery I would buy, and then one day, the line totally snapped on me and became a WTF is this stuff? Now I only stick with my Halo, shadow liners and cream blush..

If there is a bright side to all of this.. I am totally digging all of my Bobbi Brown goodies, and in a strange way, this beauty loving junkie is happy to only focus on one line of makeup and actually be happy with it. Time will tell on this one, but hey I am trying to look on the bright side 😉

Jo I’m using miracle worker pads right now…not sure how I feel yet though! Never been an SSS lover but the kits look fab! LOL YOU never know BB maybe have a period where you are over it too! Me and her have had a steady relationship for a year and so far no end in site but we’ll see 😀

I have a couple of products like this.
First, eyeliners from Hot Topic. They have such fun colors and are only $1.99. The problem is that they are hit or miss! Some are very streaky and hard to apply. You have to pull on them to make your line…so not fun—especially after being spoiled by Urban Decay!
In the realm of eyeshadow, definitely Hard Candy’s In the Shadows palette. I don’t know why I raved about this…maybe it was because Hard Candy was the ‘it’ thing a couple months ago when I bought it. I can now see it has barely any pigmentation at all…
And also from Hard Candy, my Ginormous Lash mascara. Yeah…doesn’t do anything for my lashes compared to my Stilleto.
Now, HC isn’t all bad. I like my Honeymoon blush as a highlighter and base shade (if I apply lightly.) Just really realize how bad those other products are compared to my new fix!

marina I didn’t even KNOW hot topic had liners awesome lol! My HM is almost over with HC too as I’m not feeling the love for Ginormous Lash either anymore!

Clinique skin care products. For a while they were all I used and I was telling myself they are good for my skin.
Well, enter La Roche-Posay. Their stuff really made my skin look a whole lot better and I feel that my skin feels less dry. Then LRP and I committed and expanded to body and sun care as well. At the moment we are married and happy. 😉 Their sun screen is
The only thing I am missing in our relationship is a good eye cream.

I think to a certain extent it is normal to change. Our skin changes as well due to weather, age and diet. So a like bigamy once in a while should not hurt 😉

    How was your weekend? 🙂

    • the Muse

nia same here. I was using dramatically different moisturizing for a long time in my early twenties but it was absolutely rubbish when I discovered way better skincare 😀 oh but my honeymoon is also over with certain makeup too, not always skincare haha!

Weekend was great, too short, and yours?

      • Nia

Oh, my nearly only makeup love at the moment is MAC, mostly because I can get the colours I want and do not have to buy a quad/quint for two colours I like 😉

My weekend was very nice, but also too short. Next week I have a week off, looking forward to that 🙂

        • the Muse

hey nia was over mac a while last year but now the honeymoon is back on 😀 hehe! enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! relax 😀 have fun!

  • jenna

I had a longgg honeymoon stage with bronzers – particularly matte ones (BE Warmth and The Body Shop Bronzer #2) but precious pink blush stole my heart last year (Jane Iredale “Cotton Candy”). I tried rekindling my bronze love this week but i can’t stand them now! I look totally plain and muddy – bleh!!

I’m still hot and heavy on pink blush!

    • the Muse

ha jenna that’s an interesting one :D! I hated bronzer for the longest time and last Summer had a bit of a love affair with ’em!

  • Kirstie

My BE foundation. I like it for summer when my skin is more normal/oily but I do not like it for winter when my skin is dry/normal.

Any lip gloss which I have to dip my finger into… I am so over sticky, unsanitary finger applications!

  • Melissa

I’m in a honeymoon with Philosophy. I have used this line right since the beginning and I always stray. Most recently spare a shower gel or 3 I strayed altogether. I recently fell in love (not the fragrance) allover again. I have been using the new oil free spf and LOVE it. its almost matte with out drying me out and doesn’t interfere with my makeup. I have started using micro delivery again too. So my honeymoon is ending with Fresh (Love how the products smell, but they just don’t do anything for me.) I don’t think I’ll ever get bored with Lush but mostly I love my aobs, spray toner, and my body stuff. But the junkie in me craves results and for my skin care its all about the effect. I think i’m over the honeymoon with Chanel every season until I touch the colors and then my wallet hides.

  • Catherine

I think my HM is over with Mario Badescu – I was using it pretty much for all my skincare and was pretty opposed to getting lured in by other brands…. but after I while I started to wonder whether it was working (I have mild acne and it didn’t go away!)…. Now I use a combo of Korres, MD Skincare, Murad and only a couple MB things…. much happier (although also more broke!)

  • Tinkerchelle

Another vote here for Clinique. I used to swear by Clinique skincare and now I feel it does nothing for me. Maybe my skin just changed? I will use up what I have but then it’s on to bigger and better thing. I super in love with Korres right now!

  • Katy

Ha! It’s so funny you’re getting over Lush ’cause I’m just now falling in LOVE!! Mostly liking their skincare and solid shampoos (some of their other stuff smells a lil’ funky for me). Although I will say that I always, always, ALWAYS go back to Proactiv. It really works best for me. Oh and then I tried Ultrabland w/my Clarisonic. O.M.G. 😮 DISASTER. Luckily I only got a sample so I didn’t have to buy the whole thing ’cause it’s NOT something I want to use on a regular basis. For nighttime cleansing I’ll stick w/my tried and true Purity and Clarisonic 🙂
