NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Review

As a long time fan and religious user of UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion) it’s a little difficult to convince me ANYTHING on the market is better. But I still wanted to indulge in NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base for the sake of reviewing it here and just out of curiosity if it was any good….

Jump!

A lightweight eyeshadow primer that locks shadow into place and prevents fading and creasing!

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base works successfully at locking down eyeshadow into place and prevents fading and creasing while keeping your shadow on all day long.

Yes, it works.

The formula is a white cream which is transparent once blended out. It creates a nice layer over the skin on your eye lid to keep shadows locked in place all day. It’s comfortable, lightweight, and barely there so you can’t feel or tell you are wearing anything at all, pretty typical eye primer fare. Texture is a tad more dry than Urban Decay Primer Potion as UDPP has a bit of a creamier texture where as this feels a tad more dry and a little less hydrating but it blends out easily without a problem.

Shadow lasts pretty much all day once it’s in place so it performs just as well as UDPP in this aspect.

Price wise UDPP is the better option of the two at 0.34 oz and $18. This is smaller at 0.26 oz and $6 more at $24.

If you hate UDPP’s genie bottle packaging you haven’t seen nothing yet. NARS takes the cake in the packaging department with an EPIC fail of a bottle. The bottle is pretty long and comes with a sponge tip applicator but you literally have to sit and pump the wand up and down several times to get any product out and even than you barely feel like anything is on the applicator. I haven’t a clue what the trick is to get product out but be prepared to struggle with the packaging.

  • Anyone who wants eyeshadow to remain in place hours on end sans creasing and fading.
  • Anyone who wants to lock down eyeshadow in humid or hot weather.
  • Anyone seeking another eye primer that isn’t UDPP.

  • Anyone who hates poor packaging!
  • Anyone who loves UDPP (no reason to change in my opinion if you’re a devoted fan already)!
  • Anyone who wants to spend more and get less ($6 bucks more compared to UDPP and smaller too)

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base performs well however the price and packaging prevent me from leaving behind my beloved UDPP. Although it kept my shadow fresh and in place all day, I find the crummy packaging completely unforgivable and I’m not a big lover of dishing out $24 for an eye primer to be honest…$18 yes….maybe $20…but not near $25 bucks. Too high a cost to pay….

Anyone try?

I was curious about this but I prefer tubes for eye primers anyway. I’m really loving Lorac’s right now.

I don’t have oily lids, can’t live with out UDPP or TFSI because my shadow is faded after a few hours or creased and ick without primer. I got a deluxe Nars sample and was glad I didn’t buy it. For me the Nars did not work with matte shadows but was ok with shimmery. I do a matte look every few days so this would be a no for me.
