Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Mineral Correcting Powder Review and Swatches

I’m constantly, obsessively looking for ways to brighten my skin up and make it look its very best. Anyone with me?

I turned to Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Mineral Correcting Powder recently to see what it would do for me and I’m having a bit of a love/hate relationship with it.

A 3 in one corrector, primer, and powder creates in various tones of pink, green, and yellow for correcting skin tone and delievering a natural finish sans talc.

This is interesting product which combines three separate colors which perform various tasks.

It comes housed in a clear plastic compact with a dual compartment. The top side houses the powder and the bottom, stealthy compartment, houses a brush and large mirror. I really love this packaging as it’s really simple, clean, and free from a bit splashy logo!

The powder itself is a translucent powder made up of swirls of Pink, Green, and Yellow. Pink is meant to brighten your skin, Green to tame redness, and Yellow to add warmth to your skin. The colors pretty much blend together to create a fine milled powder that evens complexion out, erases signs of dullness, and brightens.

Now I love this but I will say it is SO easy to over do it. My first try I looked like a little kid who got caught playing with her mum’s loose powder or perhaps a kid that clapped two chalk board erasers together. So much for translucent. You have to be very careful during application and blend out fully or you will be looking all kinds of Nicole Kidman.

Now I’m a bit tanned at the moment, much to my dismay, so it doesn’t particularly look fantastic on my skin however with proper blending it looks half way decent. Moral of the story, I think it’ll work best with paler, fairer, creamier skin tones as I thought it looked best on my skin when it was considerably lighter.

Sadly, the brush is useless as it’s very scratchy and sheds horribly but this is typical fare with Physicians Formula brushes.

  • Anyone who has red cheeks or red splotches that need taming!
  • Anyone who has a dull complexion that needs brightening up!

  • Tan, olive, or darker complexion should probably avoid.
  • Anyone who doesn’t have the time or patience to blend powder out carefully.

I like this well enough but it’ll never take the place of my beloved Physicians Formula Pressed Powder which performs way better and doesn’t cause a ton of drama to blend out. The powder does do what it promises but having to struggle with it and not add too much and blend out correctly, etc…is sometimes a tad bit of a chore. I do think anyone with redness in their skin will find this particularly useful. So far it’s a love/hate thing for me.

Not bad, but not a fav of mine from Physicians Formula.

Anyone try it?

Love it?

Not so much?

By the way there’s also a cool concealer trio that was released with this. I reviewed it a few weeks ago, do check it out here!

I just bought some of this a couple of weeks ago. I bought the “creamy natural and I can’t say I’m altogether too impressed with it. Maybe I should have gone with “translucent”. Anyway, its a nice powder, albeit very “crumbly”. I agree with the brush being scratchy, I just use one of those large blending brushes. You do have to fiddle quite a bit to get it blended and sometimes it just disappears altogether if I blend it too much. One super frustrating bit is that occasionally I overdo the flourishes with the brush and get it in my hair. It doesn’t come out of hair easily, you’d think you just need to dust off your hair but man, if you have dark hair it sort of comes out grey looking. I had to put my hair up before applying it. All in all I thought it was a good product but am still on the hunt for something better.

I agree christy it kicks up ALOT of dust. I didn’t have a prob with it in my hair but I easily over did it and continued to do so many times. I really had to practice to get just the right amount 😀 and not look like a chalky mess!

i tried it!!!! i’ve only used it maybe twice and both times i didnt like it, it looks super pale, maybe i over did it. hmmm i should give it another try!!

    • the Muse

nancy totally over did it too, blend out fully and you may like it a little bit better b/c I had the same prob and HATED it but with alot more blending I started to like what it did for my face 😀

I bought that a couple months ago, and I do agree it made me look a tad…. pale. I’m already pale as it is, but it made me look even more ghostly than usual.

What I found out though it’s easy to layer this product, so I dusted a bit on my cheeks, or any red spots and then I layered another powder that was my actual skin tone over it. The redness actually disappeared. And I also used my own brush. I also seem more prone to get this powder in my hair…. And I agree, it’s a little hard to get it out.

    • the Muse

hey brooklynn yup same prob 😀 what a great idea about layering! Must tyr that 😀

  • LipstickChick

I absolutely LOVE this product! I’m just about to start my 2nd one (truly unheard of in my life lol)!

I generally use it over their new MW Powder foundation to even things out, but I’ve been able to use it on the rare occasion that I can’t do the whole face application, and it just evens out my ruddy Irish complexion so beautifully! I actually saw some pix that were taken of me just wearing this product, and I swear, my skin never looked so good!

Count me in as a huge fan 🙂 (But yeah, I can see how this might not work so well for those with darker skin tones)

      hi lipstickchick!

I thought this would be ideal for fairer redder skin good to hear I was right 😀

I bought this product a few months ago.. Mine also came with a free on-color-suits-all concealer trio, in light pink, skin tone, and yellow. I am extremely pale, and this made it worse for me – it made me look dead, not alive and glowy! Also, for being “physician’s formula” it broke me out! Over and over! I have oily skin but not sensitive skin, no other product has EVER broken me out in 2 days! Waste of money, for me…

    • the Muse

hey kristi. PF hasn’t broken me out thankfully even though I heard it has bismuth in the ingrids.

I love this stuff. I will agree it makes you look a bit pale…but I’m already pale so it doesn’t make much difference. It does cover up my freckles and slight redness. I use this alone then add blush and a highlight and i’m out the door. I sometimes layer my other face powder overtop but I usually just put this on and and I’m done. It loeaves me with a fresh clean looking face. 🙂

    • the Muse

hey karla 😀 good to hear you’re loving it! I love that it covers redness, I suspected as much but wasn’t entirely sure since I don’t sport much redness on my face.

  • xmas

I’m pale so I like this stuff. I put it on before I put on some powder foundation and it works well.

  • zy

i bought this today and I broke the middle compartment off lol ;_; i tried it on and I think I used too much? because it made my face look to chalky. EW. do you suggest wearing this over BB cream or under loose powder or both? 🙂

  • Debrianne

I’m very fair with mild roscacea (redness and some red spots), and freckles and a few “age” spots–so I have a lot of evening out to do. I hate foundation and was looking for something fast and light. I bought the MW Correcting Powder Natural Beige because I was afraid the others would make me look ghostly. I’m so excited about the results. I apply it after my moisterizer and sunscreen have absorbed and then apply a bit of bronzer to cheeks, sides of and upper forehead and chin. The result is simply phenominal. It feels so good, light, like nothing is on. It is suggested that you “swirl lightly” and tap the excess off the brush. I could see if you don’t tap the excess off how it might look chalky. I went outside in daylight to see how it looked and rushed right in to the computer to share these results as I know how many others share my skin problems. I highly recommend it.

Believe it or not, and I discovered this quite accidentally, the creamy natural is a perfect dupe for Hourglass Ethereal Light.
