Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray Review

So far it’s been a pretty uneventful run with the new Urban Decay Makeup Setting Sprays. Not a one has really captured my attention or garnered enough interest to have me shouting to the gods about how bloody brilliant this is.

Shrug.

I expected ALOT from these as I normally I’m a big fan girl when it comes to Urban Decay but so far I haven’t really loved all over the setting sprays.

What’s your word?

I’m going to tell you one spray I did like….

Jump!

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray! Hey, this stuff isn’t too bad at all!

This collaborated effort with Skindinavia is a weightless facial mist that promises a matte look for up to 16 Hours! Whoa! On top of that it also promises to lock down makeup and keep it wearing long.

This has a fresh scent which is quite lovely and comes in a 4 oz mist bottle. To use it you simply hold it about 8 inches away from your face and proceed to mist it in an X and T formation.

It takes a sec to dry down but once it does you’ll feel a slight tightening (I experienced this with a few of the UD mists I tried so far). It’s not an uncomfortable tightening but it feels almost as if it’s ziplocking your makeup into place.

Let me get into a little explanation of my current facial situation….

Combination skin at the moment for me. This means a bit of normality is happening around my cheeks and nose with dryness between my brows and oily skin along the sides of my nose, jawline (sides of my chin), and forehead.

I used Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray to set my makeup for the past 10 days where weather temperatures have been around 70 to 90 degrees (Celsius….yes, I’m tired…sorry I meant to say Fahrenheit). I was in and out of the humidity most of these days. On a normal day sans mist I’d start to experience makeup melt down pretty much on contact with the sun. Basically this entails oiliness on the forehead and particularly around the sides of chin, jawline (weird place to be oily but this is the case) and of course along the sides of my nose. When using the spray my face remained oil-free from around 9 in the morning to around 6 pm in the evening. Pretty sweet right? Now I wouldn’t say the mist makes my face matte but my face does remain pleasantly soft to the touch sans oiliness or greasiness.

It won’t lock makeup down. Keeping my face oil free? Yes, yes, yes! But keeping my foundation from oxidizing? Nay, nay, nay! I didn’t experience any longer wear on my makeup than any other day and my makeup pretty much wore away as the norm.

I’m not keen on using this with BB Cream or liquid, cream foundations which is what I normally use. However, I do love it with my Lancome Oscillation Foundation or powder, minerals of any kind.

I really hate misting a face full of makeup to be honest and it makes me feel like I’m standing in the rain however I will say it isn’t too bad after dry down but first mist you’ll kinda be sobbing because you will look a bit drown out. But no worries it dries down quickly and your makeup will look good as new.

  • Anyone with oily skin!
  • Anyone wanting a oil-free existence for a few hours!

  • Anyone who uses cream or liquid foundations!
  • Anyone who isn’t keen on misting their face when they just finished a killer makeup look!
  • Anyone looking for something to set their makeup for all day wear (I didn’t experience any longer wear sadly!).

Well…

All in all I was pleasantly surprised. I went into this expecting to really dislike it since I didn’t have great success with the other Urban Decay mists in the collection but this actually worked well. I’m not oily all year round but I can see this becoming a staple during the Summer. It really helped keep oily situations in control.

Likey very much!

Anyone try it?

How did you feel about it?

This is available exclusively from Urban Decay at the moment but Sephora just started carrying the All Nighter and has had Guardian Angel prior to that so maybe we’ll see it at Sephora shortly.

    Uh… Muse… just a comment… temperature couldn’t possibly be 70-90C (you see… water boils at 100C)… the hottest I’ve seen is 50-ish C and I do live in a semi desert.

On another note, it’s a shame this mist aren’t working for you. I had really high hopes for this but I must say your reviews are kind of putting me down 🙁 … anyways I’ll be waiting for your review of the All Nighter one.

    • the Muse

sorry kiera it was typo! will correct now. just a bit tired today.

sorry to put you down, sadly they didn’t work so well for me but there are alot of raving around them so perhaps you’ll have better results 🙂

      • Kiera

LOL don’t worry Muse is just that I have this thing about C and F (given the fact that I can’t get my brain to think in F) so I was reading and saw 70-90 and I was like “yeah… wathever that means” and then saw the celsius and went o___O!

        • the Muse

I tend to revert to C myself Kiera 😀 even though I am in the US

Oil control is great, but nothing works for me because I sweat and I have yet to fin a foundation or powder that doesn’t sweat off my face (also doesn’t help when you feel the need to wipe the sweat off – bye bye foundation).

    I dislike summer, very much.

  • Rain

Hey muse, so is this better than the de-slick in a tube or not? I’m also a big Urban decay fan and have combination oily skin also and I wanted to try the de-slick in tube but if this is better then I might try this one….what do you suggest? thanks!

    • the Muse

nope rain! de-slick in a tube still has my heart. if you need to go with one or the other go with the tube. I like the mist and it keeps my face very fresh but I like de-slick way better, it’s simply easier to use for me as I’m not completely sold out misting my full face of makeup haha!

  • MusicLover

So I decided to come out of lurking. I’ve been reading the different articles, and i love it. Muse you have convinced me to buy too many things, especially Urban.

I was hoping to see a review of this. I have oliy skin and this sounded great. After your review, i really don’t know if this would be worth the money. I might just try some of their other de-slick products before i invest in this. This was very informative. Thank you for the review!

    • the Muse

hey musiclover so good to hear from you! 😀

I’d go with deslick in a tube if you really wanna try something! It’s $28 for 4 oz which can prove pricey imho particularly because I can see it going way fast if I use it daily ya know? thanks for the comment!

  • Marina

Kinda off topic, but I love your little “the Good” “The Bad” font/graphics. Really cute.

    • the Muse

cheers thanks marina kinda tweeting them right now! thanks for noticing kinda makes my day *hugs*

  • Janet

Would it be okay to use the spray on a bare face just to keep the oiliness at bay?

  • Emily

I bought All Nighter to use for my prom and it worked amazingly! i used a creme foundation too and it made my makeup last all night and my face did not get oily or shiny. Idk about the 29$ price tag though..

  • Becky

I have combo oily skin too.. I bought the All Nighter from Ulta and was slightly disappointed.. I was thinking about returning until I tried this. I put some mineral powder into the lid and put in one squirt of the spray and mixed together/stippled on my face. You have to work fast but holy smokes, it makes my makeup last WAY longer than just spraying it on.. and this was only with one squirt!

I do also use the de-slick in a tube. HEART! IT!

I think I need this spray.. totally should have bought it at the last F&F sale.. lol

  • rosi

I just bought this the other day, and I found that it was AWESOME to set my makeup and make it last all day long but just o-k when it comes keeping oilies at bay. This has actually become a hoily grail product for me!

  • Juliane

de-slick has been a lifesaver product for me. before i started using it, i was shiny in every single photo- yuck. Now i am shine free at the end of each work day and in photos! (I have combo skin but a VERY oily t-zone.)

side note: this spray works better as a primer ONLY. I have found that when i also use it on top of applied makeup it made it more “melty,” if you will. Use this as a primer and you will LOVE it.
