Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray Review
So far it’s been a pretty uneventful run with the new Urban Decay Makeup Setting Sprays. Not a one has really captured my attention or garnered enough interest to have me shouting to the gods about how bloody brilliant this is.
Shrug.
I expected ALOT from these as I normally I’m a big fan girl when it comes to Urban Decay but so far I haven’t really loved all over the setting sprays.
What’s your word?
I’m going to tell you one spray I did like….
Jump!
Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray! Hey, this stuff isn’t too bad at all!
This collaborated effort with Skindinavia is a weightless facial mist that promises a matte look for up to 16 Hours! Whoa! On top of that it also promises to lock down makeup and keep it wearing long.
This has a fresh scent which is quite lovely and comes in a 4 oz mist bottle. To use it you simply hold it about 8 inches away from your face and proceed to mist it in an X and T formation.
It takes a sec to dry down but once it does you’ll feel a slight tightening (I experienced this with a few of the UD mists I tried so far). It’s not an uncomfortable tightening but it feels almost as if it’s ziplocking your makeup into place.
Let me get into a little explanation of my current facial situation….
Combination skin at the moment for me. This means a bit of normality is happening around my cheeks and nose with dryness between my brows and oily skin along the sides of my nose, jawline (sides of my chin), and forehead.
I used Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray to set my makeup for the past 10 days where weather temperatures have been around 70 to 90 degrees (Celsius….yes, I’m tired…sorry I meant to say Fahrenheit). I was in and out of the humidity most of these days. On a normal day sans mist I’d start to experience makeup melt down pretty much on contact with the sun. Basically this entails oiliness on the forehead and particularly around the sides of chin, jawline (weird place to be oily but this is the case) and of course along the sides of my nose. When using the spray my face remained oil-free from around 9 in the morning to around 6 pm in the evening. Pretty sweet right? Now I wouldn’t say the mist makes my face matte but my face does remain pleasantly soft to the touch sans oiliness or greasiness.
It won’t lock makeup down. Keeping my face oil free? Yes, yes, yes! But keeping my foundation from oxidizing? Nay, nay, nay! I didn’t experience any longer wear on my makeup than any other day and my makeup pretty much wore away as the norm.
I’m not keen on using this with BB Cream or liquid, cream foundations which is what I normally use. However, I do love it with my Lancome Oscillation Foundation or powder, minerals of any kind.
I really hate misting a face full of makeup to be honest and it makes me feel like I’m standing in the rain however I will say it isn’t too bad after dry down but first mist you’ll kinda be sobbing because you will look a bit drown out. But no worries it dries down quickly and your makeup will look good as new.
- Anyone with oily skin!
- Anyone wanting a oil-free existence for a few hours!
- Anyone who uses cream or liquid foundations!
- Anyone who isn’t keen on misting their face when they just finished a killer makeup look!
- Anyone looking for something to set their makeup for all day wear (I didn’t experience any longer wear sadly!).
Well…
All in all I was pleasantly surprised. I went into this expecting to really dislike it since I didn’t have great success with the other Urban Decay mists in the collection but this actually worked well. I’m not oily all year round but I can see this becoming a staple during the Summer. It really helped keep oily situations in control.
Likey very much!
Anyone try it?
How did you feel about it?

This is available exclusively from Urban Decay at the moment but Sephora just started carrying the All Nighter and has had Guardian Angel prior to that so maybe we’ll see it at Sephora shortly.
