Lancome Color Design Matte Lipstick Review and Swatches

When the makeup gods created the beauty world they also created matte which is kinda the equivalent of Hell on many levels. The makeup gods figured that creating velvety shades of color that blended easily should rightfully have an equally bad formula which didn’t blend so great, had awful shades such as taupe and nude brown. Thus matte came to exist because good can never exist without evil.

Oh, and afterward, the makeup gods had to rest because they tried blending with mattes and it exhausted the hell out of them that’s actually when Sunday came to exist but that’s a story for another day.

Lancome Color Design Matte Lipstick was recently introduced…

And boy was I worried. Matte lipstick is almost as scary as matte eyeshadow.

Jump!

A lipstick with a revolutionary color seal complex is comprised of soft silicones and pigments that are combined with comfort agents to deliver a rich matte color that is feather-resistant,non-drying and long-lasting.

Let me tell you about matte lipstick. If you have dry lips (or even if you don’t) or fine lines matte lipstick is simply horrifying. It dries and pills off on lips, it migrates and moves around, it settles into fine lines, feathers, and creates a big, hot, hairy mess.

But slap me happy that the Lancome Color Design Matte Lipstick does NONE of the above. How Lancome created a comfortable, weightless formula that looks and feels amazing is beyond me because I tell ya, Matte, it’s the debil’s own playground!

Colors are vivid and richly pigmented which is always a plus but I thought the formula was incredibly interesting which is really what needs takin’ about. I’m not a matte girl and these won’t make me into one however count me impressed that they don’t feather or pill or migrate around my mouth. They glide on very smooth and have a velvety soft finish but oddly they also feel hydrating which isn’t exactly what you automatically think of when it comes to mattes. The formula manages to feel very soft, smooth, and moisturizing yet unmistakably matte in finish. They apply beautifully and glide on with nary a hiccup or a tug.

I tried three shades which were Posh Pink (Reddish Fuchsia Pink), Bronze Show (Nude Brown), and Lucky Kiss (Dusty Brownish Rose). Out of the three I liked Lucky Kiss the best and Bronze Show the least (I can’t pull off Nude Brown so well). The colors were all very pigmented and wore quite long through the day.

I HATE the packaging. Although very elegant it irks me that the tube resembles an upside down lipstick tube. This isn’t a bad thing but the problem is I keep propping it up on a table or my vanity the wrong way and it ends up falling over due to the raised Lancome emblem. Grrrr!

  • Matte lovers (although you guys are rare, I know you’re out there!)!
  • Anyone who likes a sophisticated cat eye with a popping matte lipstick!
  • Anyone who wants a comfortable matte lipstick that doesn’t pill, migrate, fall victim to fall lines, etc….

  • Anyone who doesn’t use matte lipstick (honestly, if you aren’t a matte lover you probably don’t need to indulge!).

They were very interesting and had a rather nice formula those who have experienced woe with matte lipstick in the past may very well be interested to try them however if you’re simply not a matte girl, you probably don’t need to indulge.

Available now from Lancome.

I admit it, i’m a filthy matte lover! I just think they look so retro and elegant compared to a gaudy shiny lip (though i love those too!). These sound absolutely amazing and i love the colour of Posh Pink 🙂
