Musings of the Day: Put It On Ice! Makeup Fridge!

A long time ago in a land not so far away, I fell in love with Lush but like all good fairy tales, evil lurked around the corner. As fabulous as Lush skincare is, much of it needs to remain fresh, particularly the face masks. So you have to kinda go the extra mile with storage of your Lush…..could prove irritating for some or not a big deal for others. Lush Fresh Facial Masks have to be stored in your fridge and heck in some cases many cosmetic items should be put on ice really to keep them fresh particularly those purchased at Lush.

If you live with a boy chances are you aren’t wanting to store your Lush in your fridge for fear he’ll walk into the living room, munching on it, and proceed to tell you what an incredible cook you are. Horror!

Which brings me to today’s Musings….

Do you store your makeup or skincare in the fridge along with your yogurt and stale bread?

What sort of cosmetics are in your fridge?

Do I store mine in the fridge?

Jump!

Yes, I do.

I stopped storing Lush in my “food” fridge a long time ago as it’s a tad too weird explaining to friends who look inside what a face mask and moisturizer is doing in there so I went and purchased one of the Deluxe Mini Fridges from ThinkGeek during a sale and now it resides under my bathroom vanity and basically houses all my Lush moisturizers, masks, massage bars, and other bits such as body splash, toners, etc….

I don’t store blushes, eyeliners, or other general cosmetics in the fridge however I have no probs about storing stuff like moisturizer and the likes in it. I do find once it’s been refrigerated that it never truly feels like the same formula if I let it “thaw” out so to speak. This isn’t a prob for me as I simply re-refrigerator it after I use it, no later haters here, moisturizer makes perfectly fine left over fare.

You can actually shell out over $200 for a “cosmetic cooler” but my mini fridge does the trick just fine!

Your turn.

Are you putting your stash on ice?

Share it!

i keep some of my skin creams and eyeliners in the fridge in the summertime (hidden behind the jam jars). they feel better and hold up better that way. i had to put a few melted chapsticks in there recently to re-solidify. and with masks and stuff, if it’s a fabric mask, i put it in there before opening the package. the only downside is that sometime i forget to use my eye cream because it’s out of sight.

    your mini is SO cute!

    • the Muse

ha laura same happened to me! I used to put stuff in and forget all about it! particularly hair care items from Lush which is why I purchased the mini, at least I remember it’s in there that way and not hidden away with food :-D!!!!!!!!! I def do sheet masks too, but only one at a time 😀 after I use one, I stick another in!

  • Scientific Housewife

I usually only buy one Lush mask and store that in my fridge but everything else I leave out.

    • the Muse

hey SH I always forget it’s in there when I do that 😀 haha!

  • LINDARRAGNAR

oh muse I store my lush stuff in the refrigerator too! I used to keep all of my soaps in the vegetable drawer 😉 until one day my dad moved all of my lush soap into the basement where they got ruined 🙁

now i just keep emperor of ice cream in the fridge, otafix, and in the freezer i keep a lip balm because they are so easily melted!! But having another fridge is such a great idea!!!!!!

I keep most of my skincare products in the fridge regardless if they are Lush or not. My favourite thing to put in the fridge is toner. It makes such a difference. I unfortunately have an ‘English’ fridge which as you probably know is half the size of an American one so I’m a bit stuck for space.

    • the Muse

oh annabella I agree, toner in the fridge is divine 😀 yea I know ugh I adore England and worship it but the fridges and the lack of showers in many flats DRIVES me NUTS 😛

      • Annabella Freeman

Oh don’t get me started on the showers here! I would never take a bath to get ‘clean’. Ewww.

        • the Muse

LOL annabella! 😀 My friend Libs and her husband lived in a flat in London for ages without a shower and every time I visited them it was simply a nightmare. I never felt REALLY clean. Thank god her new place has a shower!

  • Kelly

I store my Lush in the fridge too, there’s a devoted spot on the side door for the massage bars, masks, etc. They’re all piled on top of one another though lol. I have thrown eye creams in there, it’s great in the summer when you need something extra cold.

    • the Muse

kelly eye cream in the fridge=always in order particularly to battle my puffs!

  • tina

sure do! I store all my lush products in the fridge! I live in a humid place so, everything melts if I don’t put the products in there~

    • the Muse

ugh tina bless, I can’t stand the humidity. Heat I’m cool with but humidity stinks!

  • tina

yea i know, I’m from texas so we have humidity all year round 🙁

    • the Muse

eep tina! My aunt and cousins live in Humble! Crazy heat 😛

  • Stavroula Plag

I put eyeliner pencils and lipsticks in the fridge, otherwise they might melt (it’s too hot here in Greece) ! I also put my moisturizers (face and body) in the fridge because I love the cooling sensation they give! 😉

    • the Muse

oh awesome you’re in Greece Stav! send me some delicious food hehe. Quite a fan of Greek food 😀

  • kat

I hear nail polish lasts longer in the fridge. I don’t do it, because i don’t have a mini one like you but I’m thinking of purchasing one since I enjoy nail polish so much. =]

    • the Muse

hey kat that’s a new one, never though about polish in the fridge. think geek always has sales if you’re interested in this little guy or NOW is really a great time since target and such have alot of smaller fridges on sale for back to school college students

  • Paloma

Dude, I love ThinkGeek!!!! I have yet to get anything from there, but I’ve been eyeballing a lot of decorative, electronic, household, child and Doctor Who stuff there!!!!

    • the Muse

me too paloma I fear I’m a chronic shopper at thinkgeek and jinx. Should sign my salary over to ’em!

  • Ally

The eggs compartment(?) on the fridge door with the little slide up cover thing is usually where I keep my beauty products 🙂

    1. A couple eye gel/creams for puffy eyes in the morning!
    2. Sheet masks! and I apply them after shower before I go to sleep during hot summer nights.. it’s very relaxing and gets me by in those hot humid time!
    3. Korres Yogurt cooling gel thing in case I get sunburn 😀
    4. Lush stuff

    And that’s about it :3

  • Nik

I don’t know anyone else who does this!! I do this and my boyfriend grumbled at me at first, but in a joking way. I have a black shipping box from MAC and a Clinique organizer completely stuffed and overflowing with perfume, nail polishes and Lancome creams! I think they make the fridge beautiful though, ahhh brings a sweet feeling in my heart when I see MAC and Chanel polish while I get diet 7up ! 🙂

  • Kat

I live in a humid tropical climate where things rot quickly while year long use of air-conditioning to cool the bedrooms at night tend to dry out my benefit creme e/s.

We have a wine chiller that’s unused, sometimes I’m tempted to use that for my perfumes but its way too large to stash in my bedroom.

Right now, I do keep some of my HABA toners (because they come in such huge bottles!) and perfume in the common fridge.

    • the Muse

ha kat not a bad idea! you should do it 😀 nothing wrong with converting the wine chiller into the makeup fridge hehe!

  • Pooja

Believe it or not my husband uses more lush than me&he has the top shelf corner of the fridge reserved for him..I just use their solid soaps&fresh mask, chances are I will easily forget if I put more than a mask in the fridge, but your fridge looks cute…A bit off topic but I have been a subscriber of ur blog from Switzerland, but now that I finally moved to California,I can actually buy the stuff u write about&not pay international shipping,Thx for your awesome blog.

    • the Muse
