Shills Black Mask Purifying Peel-Off Mask Review

If you’re Asian you’re probably VERY familiar with black peel off masks, if you’re not, here’s a few deets. Black peel off masks are available from a slew of different brands within Asia and they are most popular for getting pores nice and clean. The secret? The mask formulas become incredibly tight and adhere to the skin like glue so when they are removed they lift off dead skin, dirt, oil, and other nasties within pores, etc….

Do they work?

Yes, in most cases they do but man they are PAINFUL!

Jump!

Shills Purifying Peel-Off Mask is a carbon black full-face mask used to remove acne on forehead, nose, chin, and blackheads. Hell, Shills says it’ll remove fine facial hair too, I’m surprised it didn’t remove skin! To purify skin, it removes old cell tissue, excessive sebum, etc…..

Shills Black Mask Purifying Peel-Off Mask is one of the more inexpensive masks you’ll come across ($7) in the black mask world and it works. Isn’t that what we want to hear?

The formula is a tar-like texture that thick and gooey. To use it, you simply slather onto a clean, dry face and leave it on for 15 to 30 minutes. I find that it dries down in 15 minutes but still remains a tad wet to the touch so investing that extra 15 minutes and sitting around in this for 30 is well worth it as it’ll dry down more fully and allow you to peel it off way easier.

The mask promises to deep clean your skin while clearing out pores and removing blackheads and yes it will do all that. It dries down to a very TIGHT feeling as if your skin is about 5 times too small. It’s not an uncomfortable feeling, mainly just a weird one. It doesn’t flake or pill as it dries down so you aren’t left with a big old mess.

If you have experience dullness, oily skin, clogged pores, etc…..this will help. Dull skin will look rosy and healthy, oily skin will be mattified, and clogged pores and blackheads will be clear.

Sounds like a dream come true right?

It’s not all good.

The mask is painful to remove. If you’re very sensitive or your threshold for pain is on the “OMG I can’t stand it!” side of the fence you probably want to avoid this one. During dry down it becomes extremely tight which isn’t uncomfortable however it adheres to skin like glue so removing it can burn a bit and sting as you slowly ease it off. Think of pulling a band aid off or a wax strip, this kinda feels the same but a little less pain is involved. I honestly don’t mind it at all but if you’re truly sensitive it may leave your face pretty red after peeling off or those who just don’t have it in them to peel it off may wish to avoid.

(What the mask looks like after its been peeled off)

The mask does make skin slightly tight after use but nothing too noticeable. A small bit of moisturizer will get skin back in shape again!

  • Anyone with blackheads.
  • Anyone with larger, clogged pores.
  • Anyone with dull skin.
  • Anyone looking to revitalize tired skin.

  • Anyone who has a low threshold for pain.
  • Sensitive skin types.
  • Anyone who can’t sit around for 30 minutes in a scary mask!

The mask is extra cheap in the realms of black peel off masks which makes it a gem of a product for this reason along but I also liked how it made my skin look extra lively after use. It makes my face feel squeaky clean and the next day my moisturizer and makeup seem to apply smoothly. I liked the results alot and of course, the price.

Worth a try out if you aren’t the squeamish type (as hey peeling this off isn’t for the softhearted!).

Available from amazon.com and ebay.com.

Sounds like a pore strip for your entire face! I didn’t know about these until I saw the new one from Boscia on Sephora – it’s in my cart but I haven’t bought it yet.

    • the Muse

oh kristina you have to tell me about to boscia one if you buy it!

Yup exactly 😀 a pore strip for your entire face haha!

      • Cherie Moore

I have used tons of different face products. I have used the Biore face strips and I can tell you this is SO much better! I couldn’t see on the peel offs my blackheads but I could see the difference on my face immediately. I found that I need to put it on thicker than lighter as it is easier to pull off. If you do it too thin you will be pulling it off in tiny pieces.

    • Abby

I just bought it off of wish for super cheap, and I’m using it as we speak! Lol! But so far so good…

  • FrenkUzumu

I want to try one of these because I’m desperate about blackheads.

But I have hair all over my face(even nose, although tiny. Once a doctor used those magnifying cameras on me, so I know) and I don’t wanna remove them. I’m afraid they’ll just grow stronger. This kinda hair is the best left alone.

I’ve read on other places too that these black masks remove hairs with everything else, so… I guess they are not for me. *sigh*

    • the Muse

oh be careful could prove extra painful if you have fine hair all over your face frenk! peeling off isn’t fun 🙁

    • Krueger

They say you can wash it off instead of peeling it. It does the same thing

  • Bobo

I AGREE! I have sensitive skin and this product nearly killed me. Passed it on to a friend who’s not as sensitive. 🙂

    • the Muse

ha bobo doesn’t surprise me. 😀 not for the tender foots hehe!

      • vijay

I have black spots in my beard. But if I do this for my face would I get pachy beard. Iam worrying about they plz let me know

  • regina

i didnt quite like it since i couldnt tell any difference after using it so i gave it to my firend and she loved it so i guess its different for every one.

    • the Muse

def regina. I imagine from skin type to skin type you’ll experience different results!

  • Lenna

I’ve been really wanting to try this. I’ll have to get it next time I haul from Sasa.

  • Kristin

thanks for the review <3 do you happen to know how this compares to the Kose Seikisho "whitening mask?" that one's also a black peel off type mask, have you tried? 🙂

    • the Muse

kristin seikisho is WAY more intense 😀 imho! that one can remove skin and all LOL! but they are quite similar in texture. I find the Kose one removes more than the Shills one but Shills does a damn good job for its price range!

  • Jasmine

Black masks are super intense! But I’m really afraid that all the pain don’t come from blackheads being uprooted but fine facial hair.

Careful don’t let it touch the brows!! >A<

  • MaryiamS

Boscia Black Mask is the same. I hurts. Ouch. I have don’t have sensitive Skin man it hurts.

  • Tiffany

I’m near finishing mine~it’s not that painful, the DHC facial mask is! That one nearly ripped my skin off!! I got all teary and had no choice but to wash it off instead

    • the Muse

sorry to hear it tiffany I def warned in my review about it being a tad painful.

  • Pissy

I hope it works for me because i hate using pore strips for my nose and not even getting rid of all the black heads! Waiting to peel it off…. D:

  • Rainie

Have you tried the Daiso Charcoal Mask? I just discovered it today when I was researching ‘black peel masks.’ Apparently they only sell for $2 at the Daiso stores.

    • the Muse

no rainie haven’t tried that one hun! let me know how it works if you try 😀

  • Mom2tiger

I am twelve and don’t mind pain at all and I get terrible dry face and I feel ugly with my skin peeling. Because I’m so young would u still recommend this product or should I try something else a little less painful and more natural?

  • im a yolo

Hi……i just bought it and i hope it works with my skin! cause i got oily face and just a bit of small pimple and abit of blackheads! Does this product help remove blackheads only? is there any benefits using it? can anybody share with me the benefits of this product! thank you 🙂

  • gwen

Where did you buy yours from? i got mine from an ebay seller and it’s not authentic sadly ]= it’s really watery T^T

  • Nora

i only use it for those nose i went to the cheeks it hurt like hell..
and now my cheeks are red /pink i look like pickachu XD but it will fade of and the results are smooth i dont think it works for the blackheads that are big. tho i wonder if it goes away when you use it more times i used it once when i first got it.

  • Claire

my skin is kinda sensitive and I am almost 14 years old but would this be good for my skin anyway? 😉 😀

  • jasmine

This one works abit better than the Kose mask white(for me)!! =D thanks for the Muse approve!

  • Kitty

So it does clear your blackheads, cause I’ve been using pore strips on my nose and chin and sadly I still have I think that are either deeper blackheads or freackles but I think they are indeed blackheads. But reguardless the hair and painful part does work yes?

  • Chloe

I bought this couple weeks ago so i used it once where my blackheads are when i peeled it of the blackheads where still there i am really disappointed in it but i might try again a nothere day

  • Daisy

Just tried it!!!! Awesome results….not as painful as they say!!!!

  • The dancer

I bought mine off the Wish app on iPhone. I’ve been a little hesitant to try it but it’s drying on my face as we speak. I’ll update whether it worked for me or not 🙂

  • Regan

I bought mine off of Geek and i have used this mask 3-4 times since I recorded it and it doesn’t hurt when I peel it off. I’ve seen a ton of reviews and comment that say it hurts really bad when taking it off, so am I doing something wrong?

  • Lynz

    This stuff is awesome.
I’ve always suffered with deep acne scars on my cheeks. Using this once a week has reduced the scars dramatically

  • Victoria

I bought this off of Amazon and I’ve used it twice already.. It does pull some hair off of your face but not all because I still have my peach hairs lol It hasn’t pulled my blackheads out yet though… I have so many blackheads and I just want them gone!!

  • Libby

Does anyone know if this product suitable for vegans? Is it tested on animals and does it contain animal ingredients? I know it has glycerin in it but that can come from plant or animal sources. I tried to look up the company’s site but it seems to be down.

    • Lena

I was wondering the same thing. I Can’t really find any info about this.

  • Hanna

I still see black heads but I also see them when I peel it off! I am trying not to obsess and keep using it over and over! Maybe I just have awful pores…ugh. Guess I need to use for like awhile before my skin looks better? )8

  • Shannon

I am 43 with sensitive. I just used this product. It left my skin red and irritated. If your skin is really sensitive like mine you may want to pass on this.

  • Paige

Am i doing slmething wrong? It won’t pull any black heads from our 2 daughters, my husband or me. I have sent several messages to the company to no avail, theu have not said ANYTHING back!

  • Etta

Does not work…pulled nothing out of my pores like the pore strips do…tried it because I thought it would get the spots the stops don’t get..useless …waste of money.

  • Elaine

My face is red and sore after using this product I dont know what to do my face is so tight sore and extremely red.

  • Lavanya

    • Isabella Muse

No Layna, it’s a Taiwanese brand so, it is not approved by the FDA.

  • Brianna

Great read! How does it compare to Pilaten’s Suction Black Mask?

  • Autumn
