Too Faced Naked Eye Kit Review and Swatches
Ahh Too Faced. Keep releasing your eye kits and I’ll keep buying ’em! Too Faced started its Eye Kit career with its Smoky Eye Kit flash forward a year and they released the Natural Eye Palette.
And here we are, a new Fall season (kinda, considering it’s still Summer around these parts) and Too Faced Naked Eye Kit knocks on our door for Fall 2010.
Jump!
Nine shades of shadow packed in a fabulous box with step by step instructions for creating the perfect “naked” eye look!
If you’ve never experienced the joys of a Too Faced Eye Kit let me give you a break down.
These are great.
For one thing the packaging design is super in my opinion. Although made of cardboard it’s sturdy and quite cute with a flip top design that reveals nine shades of shadow. In a tiny pocket near the side of the palette you can pull out three cards which feature step by step instructions for creating three looks. Don’t forget the stealthy pull out draw which features a dual sided applicator/liner brush.
The nine shade included are:
- In The Buff (matte ivory)
- Pillow Talk (light taupe sheen)
- Like A Virgin (matte taupe)
- Birthday Suit (beige shimmer)
- Satin Sheets (golden champagne shimmer)
- Unmentionables (steel gray shimmer)
- Pink Cheeks (pale pink)
- Lap Dance (silvery taupe shimmer)
- Stiletto (matte black)
If you weren’t a big lover of the past eye kits because they had a ton of sparkle and shimmer, the Naked Eye Palette should appeal as the shadows are pretty tame in comparison. The shades all have a very nice formula particularly the shimmery ones which apply very subtly (no worries, you won’t look like a disco ball) however I did have minor issues with the mattes because I’m so unused to working with the formula.
The step by step cards are such a blessing. They allow you create the look in three really easy to follow steps using terms like “press so and so shadow on lid and use so and so shade within the crease”. You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to understand how to create a look nor do you have to be a blending queen!
This palette leans towards being more mature and work friendly or for those who desire a more natural makeup look. Don’t expect drama or boldness because this doesn’t bring that to the table however flattering, softer looks, it does deliver on.
I’ve ranted about it before and I will rant about it again until Too Faced listens. I dislike that they include ONE applicator. There is room to house at the very least two and personally I’d love to see at least three. I think it’s pointless to include the one sponge tip applicator, I’d like one to use with each look.
I thought the mattes were an ickle difficult to work with but you can blame that on me since I rarely work with mattes.
Not necessarily a bad thing but two of the three looks I tried, I didn’t love. I guess I’m not cut out for the “naked” look.
- Chicks who love nude, natural eye looks.
- Those seeking a work friendly eye look!
- Anyone who loves minimal makeup looks!
- Anyone looking for a palette that’s easy and user friendly!
- Matte haters (lots of that particularly finish to work with in this palette)!
- Anyone loves bolder, dramatic makeup!
I personally didn’t love this as much as I did the past eye kits however props to Too Faced for again extending this line. I look forward to another one as I am personally not tired of seeing these beautiful eye kits get released year after year. I’m simply not a matte, natural kinda girl I fear and I didn’t love the results but I’m still VERY happy to have the palette to add to my collection and I imagine with a little work I might be able to create some nice, softer looks.
