Becca Mineral Powder Foundation Review

I’m so not a mineral makeup lover or user. I don’t care who tries to convince me but in my opinion minerals are for oily skin types or people with perfectly smooth skin. I also stay away from minerals due to Bismuth, a fairly common ingredient in mineral foundation that makes me itchy as hell. Feels like hundreds of tiny ants are crawling under my skin! Not fun!

Mind you, none of this sways me from trying to find the perfect mineral foundation. I’ll try just about anything mineral because deep down inside I have a hidden hope that someday, some where, my mineral wishes will come true.

Becca Mineral Powder Foundation made its way onto my beauty radar recently.

Jump!

Becca Mineral Powder Foundation is a sheer, weightless foundation that has a water-resistant formula infused with natural anti-oxidant vitamins A, B, C and E for anti-aging benefits.

Becca has a solid formula on its hands with this new mineral powder but a few quirks prevent it from being perfect. First the good….

The formula is lightweight and silky smooth with a super blendable formula. It applies like a dream leaving behind a more flawless look and feel. The formula isn’t pigmented but it manages to even out your complexion and works at creating a good working canvas for makeup without appearing overly done, cakey, or flaky. Even dry skin types will like the benefits of a formula that has a hydrating finish that doesn’t flake up, fade, oxidize, or change color. Aloe Vera and Honeysuckle Flower make the formula feel not only weightless but moisturizing as well and makeup-less looking.

Becca claims its water resistant and wears strong all day and that’s true. It wears around 7 hours and sticks around even in humidity. It just looks fresh even well into its 5th hour of wear time. I find it’s not something I’m compelled to touch up on as the day progresses.

The packaging has an interesting Urban, chic-feel with hubcap design that sports a silver plate on the cover sporting the Becca logo.

As I mentioned above, certain factors prevent it from being perfect.

It does indeed contain bismuth which makes my skin go wild. When I wear this I feel itchy and uncomfortable. I wore it for 8 hours straight one day and it was near my undoing as I was tempted to just sit and scratch at my face. If you’re used to Bare Minerals Mineral Foundation, you probably won’t experience this problem however if you’ve used BE in the past and felt itchy, you’ll pretty much experience the same with Becca’s foundation.

Unlike BE, Becca created a more subtle product so it wears very light and isn’t as pigmented. If you have problem skin which needs super coverage (redness, acne scarring, etc…) this probably won’t be a great option. It evens out skin tone but doesn’t exactly conceal woes.

It comes in five shade selections which lean more towards the fairer, paler realms of makeup users. Darker chicklets may find that none of these shades are suitable for their skin.

  • Anyone who already owns and loves BE (BE users will like how lightweight this is and how long it wears).
  • Anyone with super oily skin sans acne (oily skin will love how it mattifies and keeps shine at bay for hours).
  • Anyone who doesn’t mind bismuth in their minerals!
  • Anyone who wants a mineral foundation to even out their skin and make it look flawless.

  • Anyone who becomes super itchy when bismuth is introduced into their mineral wearin’!
  • Olive or darker skin tones (color selection is limited).
  • Anyone who needs full coverage makeup.

Although it has some seriously great features it sadly failed to become “the one” for me in my mineral foundation quest. It’s a great product for anyone who doesn’t have a bad reaction to bismuth and has near perfect skin however anyone with less than smooth skin probably should look elsewhere for a mineral foundation.

Great features, love the long wear, but sadly not a love for me.

Anyone try it?

I’m like you with bismuth..I searched until I found one that did not contain any at all..I use the regular loose mineral, but they have one for sensitive skin..neither contain bismuth..everyone I have ever tried made my skind feel exactly as you described..not this one..give it a try. It is priced reasonable compaired to others..

    • the Muse

Muse, try Alima Pure. As one with oily, misbehaving skin, I am drawn to mineral makeup, but SO much of it is junk!! Regular BE makes me itch and shine like the sun, and the matte BE is just garbege. Alima Pure has a ZILLION shades, their shipping is quickest I have ever experienced, and they sell trial sizes! They have really pretty eyeshadows and blush too! Give it a try! I loves!

    • the Muse

thanks janine I’m off to google now :-DDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!! xoxo!

Muse: you can find it at the Herald Sq Duane Reader – on 34th and 6th ave I believe. It’s on the 2nd floor. The MA told me that Becca is also available at the Duane Reade around Rockerfeller, although I haven’t checked it out there. =)

Try Tarte’s pressed mineral powder. I don’t think it has bismuth. Then there’s Origins Multi-Grain, which I really like. Umm… and there’s also Everyday Minerals mineral foundation, which is good and doesn’t have bismuth at all! 🙂

Hope you find something that works for you! And if you do, please review them! 😀

Hey Muse! I tried mineral foundation for the first time from L’Oreal and it broke me out. I tried their go 360 cream cleanser and it broke me out as well! Do you know anything about L’Oreal face products containing irritating ingredients or have you had any experiences with L’Oreal? Let me know!

    • the Muse

angela haven’t a clue sorry. I’m not great expert on ingredients within L’Oreal products I fear.

  • donna

hey, have you tried/heard of afterglow cosmetics? A lot of people seem to like their mineral foundation but I wanted to know what you think. 🙂

  • AO

DR on 42nd and Lex and the one on 42nd and 8th Ave. have a new makeup Deptartment called “Look Boutique” They both carry BECCA 🙂

  • BECCA

This is the best powder I’ve used and used a LOT. Never cakes on me, wears all day, looks like a skin. I found perfect match Sand for my NC20 complexion. I don’t have sensitive skin, just some redness and it covers it beautifully. Pores looks smaller. Can apply a little or more layers but never look like tone of make up. Does not contain talk.
The only minus is price but oh well, I’m happy and love the product so will buy more.
