Lush 9 to 5 Cleansing Lotion Review and Swatches

You know I’m all about breaking into song at the moment. Workin’ 9 to 5 what a way to make a livin’….but chances are most of you are too young to remember the song or the movie but at least you can take advantage of the cleanser.

Lush 9 to 5 Cleansing Lotion should be popping up shortly online for your purchasing pleasure and is available now at Lush locations.

I told you about this smart little cleanser a few months ago when it launched in the UK but here’s your chance to get all the low down, dirty deets about what I think!

A liquid cleanser and make-up remover for all skin types!

This is the first time Lush has created a liquid cleanser as they prefer going the solid route or the balm one. So what exactly is it, what does it do, and how does it work?

All good questions!

It’s made with fresh Singaporean orchid oil to get skin soft and smooth and a dash of vitamin A for moisture. For the most part it kinda smells like some sort of cold cream and works in a similar fashion. Squeeze some out, apply it all over your dry face, making sure to massage it in, and remove it with a tissue, washcloth, or cotton pad. Done!

I prefer to remove it with a wet washcloth as it just feels better doing so since I feel like I’m giving myself rug burn any other way.

As per it’s recommendation, it’s pretty much going to work for a majority of skin types without causing woe because of its gentle good nature. It’s a creamy base with a thin consistency (not runny) that has a very soothing, nourishing feel on. Once it’s wiped away, your face is left feeling hydrated, moisturized, and clean. Pretty basic yet pretty amazing.

It’s thinner consistency makes it the better choice compared to regular old cold cream since it works great around the eye area (although be careful it does sting a bit if you get it in YOUR eye).

The overall finish of your face is dewy and clean. A lot of cleansers dry my skin out and force me into over moisturizing myself to an early grave. You can pretty much get away without moisturizer if you want after use as it won’t give you a tight, dry feeling.

I’m not keen on the scent. Kinda comes across old lady-ish to me. I won’t recommend it for hardcore eye makeup users. I rarely use anything but oil based remover for my eyes and proceed to follow up with a cleanser. This does a decent job with non-waterproof mascara but don’t expect miracles on waterproof eye makeup.

  • Anyone who wants quick makeup clean up without that dry, tight feeling after!
  • Anyone who wants a good for you makeup remover!
  • Cold cream users and lovers (this is way better!)

  • Anyone who isn’t keen on more mature scents (this kinda smells vintage!)

This is a fab little cleanser for anyone who doesn’t wear hardcore makeup. It removes facial makeup in a flash and gets your face feeling smooth, soft, and cleansed in a few seconds. I think sensitive types will enjoy the formula as well since it’s so very soothing plus dry skin folks will adore how hydrating and nourishing it is.

I’m a fond fan of Lush in general so this one gets a big rave from me. It won’t replace oil cleansers for me but the days I’m using alot less makeup or just want to quickly remove it all this will be my go to plus as Winter approaches I think my face is going to love this.

SHHHHHH I used to stand on the coffee table and sing Dolly songs. I get all caught up in names, so I may have to haul this…

Oh i can’t wait until this hits the states. i’ve wanted to try angels on bare faces or baby face bar (umm whatever LUSH’s cleanser bar is called…) but i’ve never been keen on the vaseline-like makeup removers but this sounds lovely

Hi -Ya- I got it a few weeks ago from the UK. I’m so glad I didn’t buy the big bottle. Not a big fan here. It doesn’t seem to get any of my make up off eyes face or anywhere. I thought it might be an alternative to purity but its not. I use it in the morning with my clarisonic or only after removing make up at night. Its gentle and non-irritating but not a love. 🙁

aw melissa that stinks. No good for my eyes particularly waterproof mascara but fab for everything else 😀 but not keen on the smell sadly 🙁 Hey that’s rather great…I’m gonna try it with my clarisonic 😀 not a love here either but def a likey very much!

I have to agree with Melissa. Glad I only bought the small bottle as I won’t be finishing it off. I feel really greasy after using it, it just won’t budge. I prefer oil cleansers.

aw sorry Em! 🙁 I didn’t feel greasy after use…I likey it 😀 but def not going to take over oil cleansers for me!

Even though Lush has been on my radar for years, I have never tried anything. But this sounds like something I would order…if cooler weather ever comes back to TX.

Thanks for the review! I was thinking of getting this, now I’m def going to check it out

  • Leah

Yup, got to agree, it doesnt do much for waterproof mascaras, which given I wear it wproof every day (any other masc just slides off my face) it wasnt for me… I kinda like the smell though!

May try it again with the wash cloth to remove though.

leah totally good for those days you aren’t wearing a ton of makeup but def not good for the waterproof days 😀 but I don’t mind as I always remove my eye makeup with some sort of eye makeup remover prior to going in for my full cleanse 😀

I didn’t love the smell 😛 we def have to disagree on that, bit old ladyish 😀

      • Leah

Aha, that’s what I need to start doing, whats your pick for best eye makeup remover?!

In fact, I would love a Muse list of your HG everyday make up products!

        • the Muse

leah def working on one of those hun 😀

I really love bi-facil but it’s sadly too costly imho. So the next best thing is Sephora Oil Based Remover or I’ve come how come to love the Skin Food Milk Shake Eye Makeup Remover 😀

I think I’ll just stick to my Ultrabland. Why mess with something good?
