Lush Cosmetics Vanillary Fragrance Review: Reader Request

If you asked me what my ideal perfume scent would be, I’d probably answer and say something like gummi bears!

Yeah, I’m hardcore when it comes to sweet scents. I really love fruity, sweet candy-like blends but…….I do tend to migrate to unusual ones as well like spicy florals or interesting fruity florals. I’m a Jill of all Trades when it comes to fragrance however I definitely feel most comfortable with something sweet.

A reader wrote to me recently and said, “Muse, I know you’re keen on sweet stuff but have you tried Lush Vanillary?”

Why, yes, I have.

Vanilla is outside my norm to be honest and it’s not something I seek out in my fragrances however with Lush’s name stamped all over it, it’s instantly something I purchased as soon as it released last year.

There’s one thing you should always remember about Lush, THEY KNOW how to create good fragrance.

Jump!

A fragrance from Lush made with natural vanilla absolute (the stuff from pods) and sweetened with intoxicating tonka absolute.

Talk about absolutely irresistible. This stuff is crack for the senses. As with ANY Lush Fragrance, it comes across unique, different, and very, very special.

My favorite Lush scent, Ginger, is long gone from the general catalog (sold within Lush Retro, thank gawd!) but lord knows that Lush Vanillary has the chances of replacing it. Sexy, beautiful, perfect Vanilla. I’m unsure how Lush managed to do it but they captured the essence of Vanilla perfectly. The scent is pure, intoxicating vanilla which wouldn’t normally appeal to me but I get a very, tiny little spike of spiciness which enriches the fragrance and makes it smell so very sensual and appealing to my little nose.

God, these are the times I wish you all had a scratch and sniff monitor.

Nothing bad about it, you needs it!

  • Anyone who likes untypical, unique vanilla scent!
  • Anyone who likes scents that are warm and comforting!
  • Anyone looking for a sensual vanilla scent!

  • Anyone who doesn’t love the smell of vanilla (although blended with something more this does come across very vanilla-y)!

Lush Vanillary is a chameleon of a fragrance as it comes across very vanilla but has a beautiful warm dry down that’s both comforting and quite sensual. The scent evokes the feeling of sitting on the sofa, in a warm snugly blanket during a winter storm yet at the same time it gives you a seductive jolt of the first time the man you love slides his warm hand into yours. The scent is both complex, unique, yet contrastingly simple and perfect in its vanilla notes.

Beautiful.

Utterly gorgeousness.

A must have in my opinion!

I’m on my 3rd bottle this year, so that must be saying something eh?

Loves it, very Muse Approved for purchase!

I haven’t tried it, but it sounds nice. I’m a fan of the snow fairy scent.

Vanillary smelled a little “smokey” and burned to me, Muse. I love the smell of Sympathy for the Skin, and I understand that its perfume form can sometimesbe bought on the forum, but I haven’t been able to catch it yet.

aw sorry to hear it Johanna I get more of a spiciness to it not so much smoke. I do get smoke from ginger like ashtray kinda, weird but I love it LOL! Sympathy for the Skin Has never been created in perfume form as far as I know but yes you can def get forum exclusive fragrances such as rock star, snow cake, etc…I’ve collected many over the past few years and adore them 🙂

Since you’ve given Vanillary such glowing reviews, I’ll give it another try next time I’m in a Lush store. Perhaps I’ll be able to smell its spiciness too.

johanna i really like it 😀 I think it’s a matter of getting away from the store since all the scents mingle together when in shop 🙁 ask for a sample of the bath bomb maybe 😀

  • Jessica

Well, I’m glad someone likes it! haha I looove Lush products, and I so wanted to love Vanillary, but I find it just awful! It’s one of my least favorite scents of all time. 🙁

I have this Vanillary, though Lush is not sold in Singapore..
I lurve it.. but I never get good reviews from my frens…
They tell me I smell like a coconut.. or an indian who has slapped on too much coconut oil on his hair..

think its the humidity and heat in singapore.. imagine wearing Lush in the heat of summer..

I love it on me when I was holidaying in Europe.. in winter.. delish.. 😛
