MAC Dazzle Lipstick Baby’s on Fire Review and Swatches: MAC Digi-Pops Collection Review and Swatches

Contrary to what I might believe, Digipop is not the latest boy band from Korea it’s the latest MAC Collection. Well, doh!

No seriously, doesn’t it sound like some sort of band? Ok, maybe that’s just me.

MAC Digi-Pops Collection made its debut earlier this Summer exclusively at Nordstrom. During pre-booking I was super excited to play with Digi-Pops myself so I headed over to Nordies and promptly became utterly disgusted at the display. Nordstrom, baby, mama loves you but please clean up your act. I was appalled at the condition of the collection. One of the things I was really interested in exploring were the new Digi-Pops Dazzle Lipsticks and they were just so terribly gross that I couldn’t even bear to look at them never mind swatch them. The lipsticks were squashed and smushed down to the core, just really a hot mess.

Sad sigh.

Needless to say I didn’t bother pre-booking any of it because I couldn’t get a feel for the product in that condition.

Lucky enough MAC has released the Dazzle Lipsticks and they are in, thank god, way better condition than the Nordie’s ones were.

Jump!

A new MAC Lipstick finish that features a dazzling, shimmering effect!

I can’t believe I walked out with a single lipstick but that I did. I was being somewhat cautious in my purchase with these as they appeared a tad too metallic and frosty, neither of these finishes looks terribly flattering on my lips so I was very picky and choosy when selecting the one shade I came home with.

Needless to say I fell in love with and I’m going back for more shortly in the hopes they apply as lovely as the shade I ended up with.

I hauled Baby’s on Fire and in some ways it reminds me of my first red lipstick love, Queen’s Sin.

Baby’s On Fire is a softer ruby red, almost brick red with a fine silver sparkle. The lipstick applies quite hydrating much to my delight sans a gritty texture. I was under the impression they’d feel gritty as they give off that impression at first glance with all that shimmery joy inside but they actually apply quite smooth with a moisturizing feel. The finish has a light shimmering effect without being overly dramatic or at least I didn’t it was but I am a self confessed glitter-a-holic so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt. To me the finish of glitter was very subtle but some may feel it’s disco-licious, depends how you like your shimmer dosage I guess.

As pretty as the shade and shimmering effect was, it does suffer a small down fall. Glitter does tend to migrate around the mouth as the lipstick wears away. Of course, you’ll notice a healthy dose of silver shimmer on your lips after the lipstick is completely gone or worn away so touching up is essential, otherwise your boss or anyone else might be wondering if you’re been sipping from a cup of liquid glitter.

Although the texture runs smoothly, you will feel the glitter on your lips in some ways. This isn’t uncomfortable in any way, shape, or form but it is a noticeably different texture compared to a regular, run of the mill lipstick.

The shimmer has a way of running away on your face so a lip liner may be in order. It applies well enough but after two hours of wear I noticed my upper lip was sporting a silver mustache.

  • Glitter, Shimmer, and Sparkle Loverz!
  • Anyone who wants a bit of bling in their lipstick!
  • Anyone who likes a dramatic lipstick with a fun, sparkly finish!

  • Glitter, sparkle, and shimmer haters (keep away if you aren’t keen on sparkle!).
  • Anyone with fine lines around their mouth (the glitter will potentially creep into those lines).
  • Anyone who wants a long wearing lipstick that they can keep their hands off of all day (This needs some maintenance to look fresh and beautiful).

It definately has its downfalls, no doubt about it but the effect is beautiful and the shade I choose gorgeous. I will haul a few more shades from the collection as I truly enjoyed it. I liked how the shimmer looked on my lips and thought it produced a rather fun, dramatic lip look. Granted, the maintenance that comes with the lipstick is a bit irratating but I’ll happily disregard that for the shimmer factor alone.

Loves it.

Anyone haul any of the MAC Dazzle Lipsticks or Glosses?

Loves?

Leaves?

    Heyyy Muse!

I actually just did a wee review on this on my YT channel. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I do like these, but the glitter migration can be a bit too much, IMO, so this isn’t really an everyday lipstick for me. But nonetheless, I’m liking it. 🙂

    • the Muse

hey kel long time no speak whats up!

awesome 😀 I didn’t even know you did YT reviews, well doh must go check out. I love it hard but lord knows the glitter ends up all over the damn place 😛 which shades did ya haul?

      • Kelsey

I know, right? I’ve been a little silent as of recently, lol. But you know I always read your shizz, Muse. <3
        How've you been?

I've been doing the YT thang for the past few months or so! I'm totally digging it.
        http://youtube.com/balmaholictv 😀

I only picked up Sweet Bits, but I'm thinking I really wanna grab Win-Win and Glaringly Hip. Perhaps Liquid Lurex, but I'm still up in the air with that one.

        • the Muse

I was debating on more while at the store as they looked frosty but got it home and was all about it, now I want a few more shades 😀 oh gosh no worries on comments, totally not a comment type myself as it’s hard to blog and keep up with other comments/blogs ya know? I read in RSS but commenting I can’t take on as well! ha!

          • Kelsey

Definitely feel you there. This stuff takes so much time as it is. I do my best to keep up with everything else, though. 😀

Hell yeah. YT was terrifying at first, but something told me to just go for it, so I did. I’m really loving it. Perhaps we will see a Musings Of A Muse channel one day? 😉

          • the Muse

oh kel musings of a muse has a channel hehe it’s just under a different name but I did videos in my hay day lol but never showed my face just kinda voice over reviews of me babbling about god knows what LMAO 😀 but yes def, between blogging, work, and life, it sometimes catches up on us.

    • the Muse

3 x’s ashley? I could barely get passed the first time LMAO 😀 are you kidding almost paradise is totally k-pop cheese at its best. I eat it with toast!

      • Ashley

I only watched it for Kim Bum & Lee Min Ho. I actually hate k-dramas because I find them to be absolutely ridiculous but… those two boys make my fan girl heart melt!!

        • the Muse

ha ashley 😀 Lee Min Ho isn’t my fav but I love me some Kim Hyun Joong, my heart be still! 😀 I love kdrama, it’s my guilty pleasure!

  • Anitacska

I’ve bought all the dazzle lipsticks. Just gone back for the last two that weren’t on my list, but figured might as well get them all, and I had 12 B2M empties, so they were free in the end. Baby’s On Fire was one of the must haves for me, it’s so pretty. I’ve found that it also has the least amount of glitter, so probably the best to buy if you’re not into the glittery stuff that much.

    • the Muse

hey anita damn girl nice one 😀 Baby’s on Fire was incredible, curious to try the others! going back for more shortly :D!

Muse! I know what you mean about them at Nordies–I work at the counter, and the formula makes them somewhat… weak, simply due to the high glitter content making it more mashable. They arent really made for the abuse people kept giving them (us included, with swatching them on our hands to show customers). At some point there was nothing we could do, and we arent allowed to remove them from display, and we ran out of so many colors so quickly, there was no way to replace them. Just letting you know, we definitely were sad about what happened to the gorgeous lipsticks!

    • the Muse

      hey marc!

Thanks for the shout out from Nordie’s mac counter 😀 oh god tell me ’bout people really make a mess of stuff 🙁 Sephora included. No offense, was actually surprised nordie’s had such a gross display out, very not like them but totally understandable considering you guys ran out so fast!

      xoxo!

I went and bought Liquid Lurex, a shimmery lipstick composed of pink glitters with a soft green undertone. I love it! (I always had this fascination for unusual lipsticks – Hang Up and Cyber are also on the way) Even if it can look appalling at first – after all, who wears green lipstick? – I fell in love with it when I swatched it. The green undertone is still there, but what we see the most are the glitters. The green color gives a nude feel to the lips, so it can be worn with rather sophisticated eyes make up.

As your said, the texture is fine and there is no hydrating problems, but I would have preferred a creamier formula; this one is a bit too “liquid” and moves on the lips a lot, like you pointed. That also means it migrates easily in the imperfections of the lips, especially if they are flakey or dry, like mines.

Otherwise, it is a great lipstick, and I love the idea of the collection, but I don’t think I will indulge in more lipsticks of this type.

    • the Muse

rosalie sounds gorgeous hun! 😀 I find that UD lip primer or something waxy in the form of a balm helps with migrating :-D!!!!!!!!!!!! I def want a few more shades tbh, it’s the sparkle, i’m an addict 😀

  • telle

i love the glitteriness- they remind me of a less in price dior lipstick/shine. my favorite is troublemaker and hellraiser (which is nice for when doing a bolder colored eye) and liquid lurex which is also going to be re-released for the fabulous felines collection 🙂

i swatched the lipsticks at the bay and i was fortunate at my location, that they were not all mashed up and destroyed, so i was able to swatch before being. 🙂

  • Phyrra

I have Naughty You (the neon pink) coming to me. I’m wondering if my UD lip primer + lip liner will help the migration issue.

  • Vonvon

Yes, they are beautiful! Swatched a few of them today but didn’t like the SAs in the MAC store I went to…just bought 2 Dare To Wear shadows, of which one was slightly cracked and dusty 🙁 Gotta go back there to exchange a new one….*sigh….
