Milani HD Advanced Lip Color Ignition Review and Swatches

By Isabella Muse on August 3, 2010 7 Comments

in Beauty on a Budget, Lipstick, Milani, Swatches

I imagine that Milani HD Advanced Lip Color is the brand’s take on Dior Serum De Rouge Luminous Color Lip Treatment. Who doesn’t like a drugstore dupe right?

This is newly released and should be popping up at your local drugstore at the moment.

Is it worth the haul?

Milani HD Advanced Lip Color is a hydrating, serum infused lipstick.

Packaging wise Advanced Lip Color could prove to be one of Milani’s more prettier offering. I think we are all in agreement that Milani excels at creating some seriously great budget beauty options but the packaging simply stinks.

HD Advanced Lip Color doesn’t sport the typical gold packaging that Milani is known for. This is a slim line black lipstick tube featuring raised “M” emblems and a gold “M” on the top. Pretty basic, pretty simple, and just pretty compared to other products in the line.

I got the shade Ignition which is a cooler shade of coral. Pigment wise the lipstick delivers on decent color pay off. It has a moderately hydrating formula that feels more like a balm than a lipstick with a bit of a downfall that I’ll explain to you in a bit. It glides on fairly well and wears around 3 hours at best without eating or drinking.

I’m not super keen on the formula as it does apply well enough however it feels a tad waxy on my lips and isn’t as hydrating as I like my lipstick to be. On top of the waxy formula, I feel like it sits strangely on top of my lips and looks uneventful and aging. Although it’s advertised as a moisturizing lipstick, I didn’t notice that nor do I see a shiny finish but more of a matte one in some aspects but not necessarily matte in the traditional sense.  It feels more like a lip balm to me than a lipstick.

It sports a watermelon scent and fragrance which for me isn’t a bad thing however those sensitive to flavored lip products or scented ones, might not love this particularly because the taste is artificial.

I’m not in love with the swivel mechanism of the lipstick since it clicks up VERY slowly and equally downward and in some cases if you swivel the lipstick to high you may find yourself pressing it down with a fingertip because it jams.

  • Anyone looking for a budget dupe (at least packaging wise) of Dior Serum de Rouge.
  • Anyone who likes slim line lipsticks.

  • Those sensitive to fragrances or flavored products.
  • Anyone who wanting a hydrating lipstick.

On a whole the lipstick is terribly uneventful and I can’t see much in the ways of redeeming it. It sits rather unnaturally atop my lips and ages them slightly making for an uncomfortable wear. I thought these might be special but the waxy feel is unforgivable and even at this price I can’t rightfully say it’s worth my cash.

No likey.

Not one of Milani’s best lip products.

They seem to be better at eye makeup than lips.

This works great as a sheer lively cheek color, tap on gently with fingertips….
On lips, I agree – meh.

I have the Classic Nude color and I have to say the color is too sheer… it definitely does NOT last long. But it glides on pretty easily… but I find myself reapplying too often >_>

But I was looking for a really subtle nice nude color and this was the color I fell in love with. It definitely is a bummer that it doesn’t last long… I love the design though! 😀 Looks really expensive lol
