Musings of the Day: Annick Goutal, Unique and Different!

After blogging about my favorite fragrance from Annick Goutal, Petie Cherie, a few of you had asked if I could review a few of Annick Goutal’s fragrances. Honestly, I’d love to do this since I’m a hardcore fan but before I do I was curious if you’re a fan?

Wanna Muse it with me?

Are you a fan of Annick Goutal?

Any fond favorites?

Some of my favorites include Quel Amour!, Petie Cherie, and Eau d’Hadrien. I’ve always wanted to love Gardenia Passion and I keep one on my vanity at all times but it always goes so terribly incense-y on me.

One of the things that attracts me to the brand is the uniqueness of each blend, the strong, powerful formula that lingers all day with a simple spritz, plus how special each fragrance is and how it evokes a certain feeling or memory.

I really like unique, obscure fragrances that aren’t well known, are different, or just plain unique and Annick fits that bill perfectly. It’s truly fine French fragrance at its best.

How about you?

If not Annick Goutal what sort of unique or obscure fragrances do you enjoy?

I’ve wanted to try out Annick Goutal Le Chevrefeuille for the longest time. I love the smell of honeysuckle, and it sounds like a divine fragrance, but the price range is a little bit out of my reach. I’m actually quite fond of Tiffa perfumes. They’re so cheap, and they actually smell quite nice. My favorite is the pink one (floral), but the purple is also lovely (watery and fresh). The yellow one (fruity) could stand to be a little more complex, so I never picked it up. btw I went to Watson’s yesterday, and I’m pretty sure they still carry those palettes that you can depot their Customize shadows into

oh makeup morsels tiffa makes some really cute stuff 😀 and their fragrances are kinda nice 😀 I wish we had a watsons, I’d be there everyday hehe 😀

  • Ida

Yes, please do the review! 🙂 I have a bottle of Eau d’ Hadrien and really like it too. I’m also going through a handful of samples and one I also like is Eau du Ciel.

    • the Muse

      Ida,

Eau d’ Hadrien is my very favorite scent. It reminds me of my grandmother’s lemon grove in Portugal. It has that turned over smell that I associate with not only lemon but something that’s just been planted….so gorgeous so fresh 😀

I love Annick Goutal! Have been wearing Eau du Sud (Spring and Summer) and Mandragore (Fall/Winter) almost exclusively for years. The only problem, is that it’s been hard to find either one lately – my SA at Nordstrom says that the US distributor recently changed… I notice there is a new fragrance called Mimfeo – have you sampled it?

    • the Muse

cynthia yes yes yes yes. I have the same problem. Nordstrom and Neiman’s have less and less stock lately! Many of the older blends I love so dearly like Quel Armour isn’t even sold at Nordie’s. I noticed Bloomingdales carries alot of what Nordie’s and Neiman’s does not so you might want to try that out. I wish Annick sent to the US but sadly if I want to order I have to have it shipped to England and airmailed to the US and honestly on top of per bottle costs who wants to do that? I did notice Nordie’s got the Petie Cherie LE items which I was shocked about b/c I didn’t think they would with stock as it is now. I haven’t even heard of Mimfeo…..where did you hear about it?? Or did you mean Ninfeo Mio? That I have tried. It’s a very green formula which I’m not keen on as I prefer the more Fruity Floral or Spicy Floral blends. Mandragore is one of my favs for Fall/Winter as well 🙂

PS Cynthia even common blends like Eau de Charlotte are difficult to locate at counter lately WTH!?

        • Cynthia

I just saw your reply(!) Thanks for the heads up on Bloomie’s as a resource for Annick – a friend stopped by Saks and she said they have a good supply as well. Very strange about Nordie’s and Neiman’s… And yes, I meant Ninfeo! I had no idea it was very green. Uh, does that mean less citrus and more grass? I guess I’ll have to head to Bloomie’s to check it out… 🙂

          • the Muse

oh my pleasure cynthia sorry for the delayed reply 😀 Very indeed. Ugh I’d prefer more citrus and less green hehe!

  • Maria

from Annick Goutal I love “Mandragore”
other unique fragrances – I enjoy Serge Lutence, Creed and Montale
not so much of them ’cause the price *sigh* =)))

Le chevrefeuille is my fav antic goutal perfume but unfortunately it does not have a powerful, lasting formula! It has the lasting power of a cologne, which is too bad really as it smells divine, like real honeysuckles in a green garden with the breeze blowing through it.
My next purchase was petite Cherie edt which I really liked, so when that was finished I got the edp thinking it would smell the same but last longer, right? No! It smells somewhat different, like it has a metallic tinge to it. So it’s really not as good as the edt and I’m having a hard time finishing it.
My annick goutal crush is the rose absolute, which smells absolutely divine, again like the real thing in the garden. But sighz! It is out of my budget.
IMHO, eau de Camille and eau de Charlotte are worth checking out too.

    • the Muse

oh yes eliza I agree even in EDP format does fade rather quickly 🙁 OMG I have the exact opposite happen to me. the EDT of PC smelled way differently for me than the EDP. I prefer the EDP over the EDT. 😀 and got the the same metallic weirdness you did ha!

Rose Absolute is a fav of mine as well 😀 I LOVE rose blends. Eau de Charlotte is well worth it as well 😀 I agree! I don’t like Camille as much as Charlotte though 😀

    I’m a fan and own Eau d’Hadrien and Mandragore…
but they never seem to last on me..

also, check out Mandragore and Mandragore Purple at the counters.. I can’t seem to tell the difference ..
    ..
check out Keiko mercheri, sold in US, but I buy them off ebay.. amazing , complex and lasting..

    • the Muse

really ginger? Are you using the EDP? Mandragore does dry down different than the purple version imho 🙂 Oh I love Keiko! So brilliant 😀 I have a stash of Loukhoum for extra special days 😀

    Dear Muse,

If you like Gardenia, but Gardenia Passion is not loving you, you should try AG’s Un Matin d’Orage (thunder in the morning). It’s a more spring-like interpretation of Gardenia Passion, inspired by a walk in a japanese garden after the rain.

    • the Muse

Oh I love Matin d’Orage! thankfully it does not go incense-y on me like Gardenia Passion 😀 It’s such a sensual scent 😀

  • Nadiah

Hey i came across AG perfumes on luckyscent. Have already ordered some samples of the perfumes so cant wait to smell them! But seriously, it could be some scent not to my liking! Like Juliette Has A Gun perfumes. Seriously pungent and horrid smelling perfumes but id be buying some just for the lovely bottles. Have u tried them Muse?

  • stacey

Eau D’Hadrien is my favorite! Annick is super pricey but worth it for me, I made the bad mistake of buying it on Ebay and what I got was a bottle filled with water. Lesson learned for! I will stick with going to department stores; I’ve heard of fake bags/clothing, but perfume, really?
