A matte deep taupe brown shade of shadow from NARS Fall 2010 Collection.

Matte, bloody difficult formula to work with but you’ll probably have a difficult time just saying no to NARS Coconut Grove Eyeshadow. Although matte in finish this shade is simply stunning particularly for the upcoming cooler weather. It’s one of the richest chocolate shades I’ve come across or own for that matter. The shade comes across as a rich chocolate brown with a heavy blacker base.

Blended out the shade is undoubtedly brown however used as a powder liner the shade leans towards being black particularly when used wet. Those scared of using as a lid color can easily use as wet liner or a dry as a powder liner. Using it as a liner dry allows for ease of lining particularly for those scared of gels, pencils, or liquids as powders are always easier to manage and easier to clean up if you make a mistake. Using it wet intensifies the color dramatically so it comes across more black but you can still get that feel of a deep, rich brown.

Those who aren’t in favor of shimmer or sparkle will be happy to see such a pigmented shade of brown sans some of the sparkle that other NARS shadows sport. The matte formula will appeal to those that have advanced skills using such a medium as you can create a beautiful smoky Fall eye look using the shadow.

It comes across as one of the most pigmented shades of NARS eyeshadows I personally own and possibly within their catalog which makes it quite a gem!

For folks like me the formula could prove a little difficult to work with because 1. it’s so pigmented and 2. its matte finish. But hey we never run away from a challenge right?

  • Anyone seeking an eyeshadow that can double as a rich, smooth eyeliner!
  • Those who want the perfect shade of rich, deep, dark brown for a dramatic Fall eye look!

  • Those a little wary of matte finishes!

Although I’m a tad scared of mattes myself, I can still easily use Coconut Grove as a liner as it comes across rich and smooth on my lash line. I’m actually quite excited to test out a few looks with it as well, perhaps I’ll be a little adventurous with a matte this Fall, could work right?

This one gets a Muse Approved for the pigmentation and incredible color. It’s special enough to warrant a haul particularly if you’re a NARS fan.

Likey!

Wow, a very pigmented matte shade. Sounds nearly too good to be true.
    Thanks for the review 🙂

My sister got coconut grove, Mangorve (yellow) and DAphane (purple)
and she likes the colors but you have to find the right applicator or else you won’t get any color payoff!!

YEAH, i tried it and its got the best color payout of the three but MACS handwritten is better and 14 compared to 22 and the brown color from teh wet n wild color icon has teh same pigmentation as the nars one for 6$

I recomend MUFE purple color (I think it’s #92? maybe, sorry) either way, if you want that nice purple eyecolor that’s on the front of the Fall 2010 Sephora catalog. It looks so much like it to me in that pic.

I like Make Up Forever for nice matte colors, personally (UD, also but they don’t have as many cool colors.) I recomend their purple color (I think it’s #92? maybe, sorry) either way, if you want that nice purple eyecolor that’s on the front of the Fall 2010 Sephora catalog. It looks so much like it to me in that pic. I have used it for years, I LOVE that color from MUFE! It’s seriously almost a waterproof eyeshadow, it’s crazy! It’ll stain your lids so be prepared to use a darker eyecolor the next day too, though, even w the best eye makeup removers. I’ve got D. Gorgeous from NARS Spring & haven’t really used it so maybe I’ll use it w that one day but to me, that color is like so low pigment I could use it as a translucent face powder (I’m pretty fair) but still, I almost returned it but decided to keep it anyways so I should try this.
