NYX Liquid Crystal Liner Review and Swatches

I’m created the Back to School Beauty Budget Picks for College students and Back to Schooler’s in need of some inexpensive beauty finds that won’t break their bank. This series is all about affordable skincare, cosmetic, and beauty bits and bobs for those heading back to school in the next few weeks!

Today’s pick, NYX Liquid Crystal Liner!

Jump!

NYX Liquid Crystal Liner is a sparkling glitter liner with a precise brush for lining eyes with a bit of shimmer!

Fans of MAC’s long gone glitter eyeliners and those who love Urban Decay Heavy Metal Eyeliners should appreciate this inexpensive budget pick!

These are rather fab and fun for spicing up your eye look with a bit of glitter in the place of your standard old boring pencil eyeliner. Each tube contains a super slim line brush for precise application. The formula is basically a shot of glittery goodness submerged in some sort of clear gel base. The glitter runs towards being tamer when compared to the likes of Urban Decay Heavy Metal Liners since it’s a finer texture of glitter and not as chunky.

The product comes in various shade selections so you can select a color depending on the look you are going for. I like using silver or black for a smoky eye look, gold goes great paired up with a brown smoky look or warmer shades of coppers and golds, etc…..You have a total of 10 shades to choose from so you can mix and match according to the look you’re wanting to achieve.

I like the formula on these alot and find they are comparable to MAC’s Glitter Liners which have only been available via LE Collections. It gives a nice shimmery finish but doesn’t over do your look with chunky, disco ball pieces of glitter. It’s just enough to lend a certain sparkle and shine to your finished eye look.

Some shades need an extra line or two where as others apply smoothly. I noticed that lighter shades had me lining and going over the line for a second time for the best shimmery pay off however shades such as gold applied perfectly so formulas vary from shade to shade.

  • Anyone wanting to spice up their eye look with a bit of sparkle!
  • Anyone wanna to add a bit more drama to their smokey eye looks (gold goes great with a brown smoky look, black or silver pairs up fab with a traditional smoky eye, etc..)

  • Glitter haters (these are most definitely glitter and those who hate glitter won’t likey!).

These are fun and should appeal to the budget crowd who really want to get their hands on Urban Decay Heavy Metal Liner but simply don’t have the buck to indulge. Each one will set you $4.50 (or cheaper depending where you shop it) and you can get several for the price that one liner would set you back from other brands.

I think they are a fab little back to school purchase for fun, funkier school makeup as well!

ooooooooooooh. my whole makeup obsession began with purchasing one urban decay glitter eyeliner. things have gotten out of control a bit since then lol. i have SO many glitter eyeliners, that ive got colors similar to almost all of those, but i like the black, im gonna need that one. ive got a sugar black glitter liner, but its more black liner with some glitter in it. i like the look of this one SO much better. thanks for sharing! 🙂

Aww, pooh, I was hoping that the liners would have a subtle blend of different colors instead of each liner being just one color of glitter (ala spandex). Thanks for the swatches!

I’ll be honest, when I first saw glitter eyeliner in the store, I thought who would want to wear glitter liner?! Strippers?
Ironically, the next weekend, I saw my cousin who happened to be wearing some from Victoria’s Secret and it looked really good on her – it really made her eyes stand out and actually looked good for every day.
I may have to check this out!

I have the Crystal Hip one but have only used it once. Do you have any tips for using it? I used it on my lower lashline and within a couple of hours I had glitter all under my eye area. Thanks Muse! Loving this back to school budget beauty picks series so much!

Pretty! I might go and check these out too. The pewter would look good on the the lower lash line if paired with black liner on top. Makes eyes look shiny. Thanks for the review!

That blue-ish one? Is it called Crystal Jade or Crystal Aqua? You have 2 different names here xD Love your reviews!
