Lorac Private Affair Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

Lorac Private Affair Palette was one of the very first palettes that caught my fancy late this Summer when I saw it introduced as part of the Lorac Fall Collection 2010.

The palette is exclusive to Sephora is $38 and has six shadows, primer, and a brush which is housed in a rather slick, sexy little faux croc compact.

I think the shades called out to me most, actually one in particular, which was a gorgeous plumm-y wine. I really feel like Lorac is a bit understated and doesn’t get nearly enough love, they seriously have some killer offerings and the Private Affair Palette seemed like one such awesome offering.

Let’s have a look!

An eyeshadow palette, eye primer, and dual-ended brush set.

Of course packaging gets me ever time. This is a really elegant piece and even though I commonly associate faux croc with old ladies, sorry, it still comes across looking all kinds of slick and sexy plus the stealthy ninja pull out drawer on the bottom of the palette that houses the brush and primer totally seals the deal for me, I have a thing for palettes with drawers, must be my geeky good nature.

The set palette contains eye shadows in creamy beige with pearl, champagne rose with shimmer, soft taupe with pearl, platinum grey with pearl, deep wine with shimmer, black with sparkle. You have to be a little careful with Lorac shadows as some come across a tad frosty such as the lighter shades in this palette however regardless they have an incredibly smooth as butter formula that applies and blends like a dream in my opinion. Shades all have a nice wearable formula that isn’t overly done and plenty of pigment to back them up.

The wine shade in this set is kinda what I wanted Bobbi Brown Black Velvet to be. It’s a tad difficult to work with as it comes across a little matte-ish and black but once you have it blended out correctly it’s a super lovely blackened wine shade. I thought it really did something gorgeous for my brown eyes.

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer comes along with the palette in a mini size and is tucked away in the pull our drawer I mentioned above. This is a pretty great primer and does keep shadow locked on but I’m still a fond fan of my Urban Decay Primer Potion.

For my look below I used the wine shade all over my lid and blended a bit of the shimmery black into my crease.

Ugh the palette flap is so irritating! It doesn’t stay open and it keeps snapping closed. This is terribly annoying when you’re trying to dip into the shades and get your eye look done.

The palette isn’t travel friendly at all and it’s a guarantee the shadows will break if you travel with them. If you do decide to take it on vacation or to work with you, etc…be sure to be careful and pack it well as the shadows are quite delicate and break easily.

You can create any number of looks with the colors included but I wish they had included a look book of some sort. Really, not only Lorac, but all brands should consider this with palettes.

The brush isn’t too great in this set. A bit scratchy and thin, a little useless.

  • Anyone who likes sultry Fall eye looks!
  • Anyone in lust with gorgeous eyeshadow palettes.
  • Anyone who loves Lorac.
  • Anyone who wants easy to blend shadows that create gorgeous looks in simple steps (the shadows blend so easily and pair up so well, it’s easy to create lovely looks with little effort).

  • Anyone who wants an elegant shadow palette to travel with (this isn’t too durable for travel).

The Lorac Private Affair Palette has a little something for everyone that desires a more elegant eye look. I thought the shades were all stunning particularly the darker ones. If you a desire a more polished look for Fall, this should suit you well. It’s $38 and I personally think the price is just right for hauling.

Gorgeous and much Muse Approved for purchasin’!

Love that looks on you! I can’t usually pull off dark eyes and lips, but you did it beautifully! I keep going back and forth on whether I want to purchase this during Sephora F&F, but I think I have been swayed to go for it after this review.

BTW, what are you wearing on your lips in these pictures?
