Yay or Nay: Lipstick on your Lids?

Gather round kids. I have to tell you a secret.

Fashion Week model looks do nothing for me.

GASP!

Outrage!

OMG!

I think they could possible torture and hang me for saying something like that. It might even be against the law.

Here’s the deal.

I’ve gotten 100’s of e-mails these past few days featuring 1000’s of made up models featuring various looks from various brands but honestly nothing captures me. It seems like the golden rule for Fashion Week is really nude, natural unflattering looks or something so outrageous that no one would honestly wear it like eyeshadow on someone’s forehead or something crazy like that.

I can’t be alone in my thoughts here.

Or am I?

Crickets?

Well…

After skimming through dozens and dozens of models this week and just feeling meh, I finally came across a bit of a yay with Estee Lauder Derek Lam for SS2011 Runway Show.

They did some amazing looks using pops of vibrant orange and coral which totally caught my fancy and had me thinking how major the models looked.

Check it and tell me what you think!

Jump!

For the second consecutive season, Estee Lauder sponsored the beauty look (makeup & nails) at the Derek Lam SS 2011 runway show featuring bright orange-shaded eyes, nude lips, peachy-bronzed cheeks and neutral nails.

Estee Lauder’s Creative Makeup Director, Tom Pecheux, lead a team of artists that created stunning looks on the models in the show. While famed manicurist, Jin Soon Choi, and her team polished their nails with new limited edition Estee Lauder Nail Lacquer in Extravagant Pearl (available October 2010).

“Working with Derek Lam is a true creative collaboration, he loves to bend the rules the way I do. So I created the focus on the eyes with products that are actually made for the lips. Vivid color on the eyes that is sharp and graphic with gorgeous skin, sun-kissed cheeks, a bit of mascara and a lovely eyebrow all bring the fantasy of the Derek Lam women.” – Tom Pecheux, Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director.

Are these stunning or what? They are both wearable and edgy in a playfully simplistic way. The winged out eye using such a gorgeous shade of fiery orange really brings the eye out without overdoing it. I seriously fell in love with the entire look, it’s so natural and pretty but still manages to come across unique with a bit of an edge.

Products Used:

Eyes:

  • Pure Color EyeShadow in Sugar Cube or Sandbar Beige
  • Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara in Black
  • Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Pencil in Coral
  • (To achieve the orange-shaded look on eyes, Tom used two NEW Pure Color
  • Lipsticks launching in March 2011 and Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in
  • Coral)

Eyebrows:
Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Coffee

So obviously I need to embrace lipstick as my new eyeliner of choice! Ha! Who knew lipstick would look so fabulous on lids?

What do you think of orange hued lids?

Yay?

Nay?

Yay to both! I’ve been using lipstick on my eyes for years when I can’t find a shade I want in traditional eyeshadow format.

  • Lindsay

Total YAY! I have been doing this since high school! Especially when I was going through my rebllious, goth/grunge stage with the bright red and bright purple lipstick as liner. I loves it. I think that orange hue is great and that pinky/coral with the models blue eyes, looks fantastic.

    • the Muse

omg purple would be awesome lindsay! all the shades of lipstick I simply can’t use as a lipstick now as a liner…lol!

  • Sarah G.

I love the looks, but I think you could easily get the same look with orange and red eye shadows. They would probably last longer and wouldn’t feel as heavy on the lid either.

  • LorraineER

I love that!!! I’m amazed b/c I have been really disliking what I’ve seen for S/S 2011 in terms of makeup. I think that they took “natural” a little to literally, it’s like..I get using products to look natural but a prettier version of your actual natural look and it’s as if they used products to look worse. Some of the models looked like they had colds IMO! I’m really liking this though. The one good thing is if you wake up sick next summer and roll out of bed with no makeup you should look totally on-trend, yay!

    • the Muse

don’t forget natural and really HARSH brows lorraine. UGH hate harsh brows. colds or corpses lol! yay! the flu is in!

      • LorraineER

Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of thick harsh brows either. Unfortunately they are *in* and look like they might be that way for awhile.

        • the Muse

did you see that chick from glee, sorry I don’t follow it and don’t know her name, leah? her brows at the recent award show were awful imho! I do everything in my power to not look like that since my brows are so strong lol!

  • chibicheeks

it looks awesome, but I have hooded lids, and I could just see that lipstick going all over the place on my eyelids 🙁

    • the Muse

I don’t but I can imagine it would end up all over my face chib lol! messy girl here!

  • Jennifer

you’re definitely not alone in your opinion of fashion week model looks…they do nothing for me either, I tend to ignore it completely lol

    • the Muse

me too jennifer. some stick out but it’s really rare. Maybe I have no sense of real taste?!

  • Lindsay

For those who are afraid of having the lipstick run all over the eye lid, or to those who wanna rock up a shadow, dust a lil shadow in a similar hue of your lipstick, or even a translucent shimmer over top of your lipstick shadow to keep it in place.

  • Gisele

Found out today that dear daughter uses BB metallic lipsticks on her lids, but my lids are too oily to even attempt such a daring feat. As for Fashion Week, models and otherwise, well, there are the folks in the audience and then there are the folks who try to create looks, of varying sorts, if you will. It is all illusion but some are pretty and some are not!

  • Nina

Yup, I’m thinking, we’re all agreeing….Tom Pecheux is a SCORE for Estee Lauder. Loving the Blue Dahlia stuff I got. (I’m evil….I got everything featured in the “Blue” Side of the collection: lipsticks, glosses, and all….. ( I NEVER purchase Estee Lauder.) (Till now.) Looking forward to his holiday collection…..looks like a nice “browns/neutrals” palette with gold and red lipsticks……. We’ll see!

    • the Muse

nina they have improved vastly lately 😀 and it’s not your typical aged EL ;D

  • Comrade_Garlic

For once I’m part of the fashion set! I do this a lot. I have this sad drawer of black cream/gel liners. MAC, Stila, MUFE, Smashbox…ect, none of them hold a candel to Lime Crime’s Styletto. It wears like iron on my lids. No budging, fading or smudging. Lime Crime’s No She Didn’t is what MAC Blue Peep should have been. Perfect blue Peep blue and no movement. I swear I don’t work for Lime Crime.

  • Eli

The look is really nice, but lipstick on my lids…nay. It would stay there even half an hour. My lids are extremely oily.

Sorry for the double post, I forgot the ‘n’t’ on ‘wouldn’t’ 🙂 And it matters, especially here 🙂 I wonder what will happen if the lipstick is mixed with some translucent powder… perhaps with a good base, thi would hold the colour in place. I will try it tomorrow

Fashion model looks do nothing or me either.. they are all so natural and boring and all look the same to me. There are a few I like, but it’s rare.

I think these looks are nice but I’m not sure how I feel about lipstick on my eyes. It’s too weird especially when you could get the same result with eyeshadows of the same color.

    • the Muse

      gio ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno if I’d attempt it either ;-D I’d prob look a fool!
