Kat Von D Adora How To Look

Kat Von D stepped into a Guru’s shoes for a day and did some How To Videos for her Adora and Saint looks.

Let’s take a look and maybe discuss?

Jump!

For her first look she uses the Adora Palette and for the second she uses the Ludwig Palette.

Hmmm I’m no great expert but her technique is way different than how I do my own makeup. Is it weird that I’m shocked and surprised Kat Von D does her own makeup? I dunno why but she seems like such a tom boy and I just imagine her rolling out of bed and having a makeup artist put on her face for her. Totally a strange though but I can’t picture people like Kat Von D or Jennifer Lopez, etc…doing their own makeup and when I actually seen the videos I was like, really?

Her application seems to be a tad on the messy side but I’m no great expert and everyone does do their makeup differently however the end result is very pretty.

What do you think?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I think it’s great. She’s not a make up artist, so her technique and application aren’t going to be “pro” but she does a good job with her own features and eye shape. Hand tattoos = dirty crazy old man looking hands though.

  • Annette

Her technique is different than mine too. I always start with a light shadow in the inner corner and work my way it. It’s interesting how she starts with the outer corner first. I’m going to try it, lol.

    • the Muse

I am too Annette. Weirdly enough I do my application completely different. I normally work a lighter shade all over my lid and crease and proceed to blend a darker into my v. I never start outer to inner.

  • Ruthless

Depending on the look I’ve done the outer first. If you want the full intensity of the “dark” shade and don’t want it diluted by putting it over an all over base.

  • Appu

You know what Muse, even I thought her application was a little messy 🙂 I mean, c’mon with something like this, there is definitely gonna be fall out and all, she doesn’t even clean up 😉 Also, I do my defining the ‘v’ and blending job towards the end 🙂

    • the Muse

appu I’m def no expert but I though so too ;-D! but the end result was really good. ha me too! ;-D

  • Storm

I assumed it was cleaned up, but not shown. *shrugs* She isn’t an artist and we ALL do our makeup differently. It is so weird to watch other people get ready because I want to smack them and say, “You’re doing it wrong!” LOL

    • the Muse

LOL storm yeah…me too! I’m kinda like HEY WAIT that’s not it but I’m probably the one doing it wrong anyway LMAO

  • cinthya

I like it, it is different than how i do it, but i think next time i’m going to try and do the outer v first, i hope it looks good, lol

    • the Muse

I think I’m going to try it to cinthya, just out of curiosity to see if it’s easier than my method ;D

ok, i have to say how can anyone say kvd isn’t an artist? sure not a makeup artist per se, but she is very talented with blending and shading, plus she can do an entire flawless face in under 15 minutes. While she isn’t my favorite person, kvd as a brand and tattoo artist are second to none, no flaming intended here, just wanted to point these things out. A one and a half minute clip isn’t going to show everything anyway, she really wants to sell the products. I have been lemming her collection, there have just been others i wanted more. 🙂

  • Marina

Definitely different than how I do it…I’m a 2-3 color girl…I usually do the lightest color first in the inner corner, and then a middle “transition” color second (sometimes third though…one of my favorite looks is using Money, Loaded and Kush from BOS III. For that I do Money+Loaded, and then blind with a bit of Kush afterwards) and lastly, a darker outer corner color that I blend into the outer crease.
I’m going to try her application style tomorrow with the Ludwig look (I ADORE the palette), though I’m sure I’ll be a little bit more careful in the application.

    • the Muse

that’s about what I do Marina. ;-D I’m curious about trying out her method myself!

  • LorraineER

Yeah I agree with everybody about the outer V thing- I love the way her eyes always look so I need to try doing the outer V first. Man, she really slaps that makeup on fast, lol! It does look good in the end though…I wonder if she did it and then someone stepped in and cleaned it up and made it neater for the last shot? Just because for how messy it was it was so perfect at the end.

    • the Muse

lorraine agreed, prob a little help after ;-D LOL she prob does makeup the way I do, I’m heavy handed as hells!

  • Kerri

hhmmm… i don’t know about kat… don’t get me wrong, i have quite a few tattoos myself, but she always kind of looks dirty to me… like she needs a good shower.

  • Mic

She applies her shadow the way one would work on a tattoo. Outline (outer v) first, then shading, and finishing with the light colors so they don’t get muddled.

  • knownever

while I’ve never applied dark shadow along the outer corner of my lash line like she does, I always start with the crease color. I find that applying a color all over my lid first tends to make the colors blend together and sometimes get cakey. Really, only if I use a cream shade will I do an all over lid color. I love her tip to use a light shade for blending. normally i guess people blend with a clean brush but using some shadow to do it really gives a cool look

  • Eileen

I’ve always loved Kat’s eye makeup look so I’m glad to see how she does it, although this is definitely a shortened version. They’re just long enough to promote the line. Oh well, every minute counts when you’ve got so many things going on ie makeup, books, job, celebing ….

  • Comrade_Garlic

This is how I apply. I find it easier to work darker to lighter. I tend to over blend making it look muddy. This way just looks neater. I was surprised how young she looks without eye makeup.

  • Kristi

I keep thinking she’s holding her hand alllll wrong! She looks so heavy-handed, but then, she IS a tattoo ARTIST, so of course she’s talented with her hands (def moreso than I am) so I suppose that’s a good explanation for why she goes about applying her makeup differently than you or I… but I agree, I’m definitely going to try working from outer-to-inner next time, see if it makes a difference 🙂

    • the Muse

I’m curious Kristi. Def going to try and see what my results are ;D

  • Marasy

I like that she doesn’t follow the same formula of make-up application that I notice a lot of the make up gurus on youtube use. (First the lid, then the outer v, and then a highlight = a bit dull after awhile). I’m glad she does things a bit out of the box. I’m going to try her method as well, plus while it appears as if it is not so painstakingly applied, it still looks beautiful and quick to do in the morning!

    • the Muse

marasy end result is perfect ;-D application technique is interesting and not one I use myself but willing to try ;D

  • Karrie

    I like the videos.
I wish they zoomed in on the final look.
She does seem to glob on the makeup but in the end it does look good.
