L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara Review

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara is the latest mascara to hit the drugstore market. It’s a mascara to millionize your lashes, whoa…..(do I sound like Joey from Blossom when I do that?).

No but seriously I totally want a million lashes, hells to the yes sirree! Gimme a million lashes. Make them full, make them fat, make them flutter.

Does it work?

Jump!

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara includes a uniquely designed brush to separate lashes from corner to corner to produce incredible volume.

If you’re a fan of larger, club-like brushes this should be your bag. Million Lashes Mascara has one of those larger brush applicators that you’ll either fear using less you poke an eye or wholeheartedly embrace because you enjoy drugstore mascaras like Covergirl Lashblast.

No denying that the mascara definitely gives lashes some nice length. I’m not really into the large brush head in all honesty but it works well enough at grasping lashes and creating good length.

Formula is lightweight and doesn’t leave lashes crunchy or weighted down. It feels light on my lashes and it builds easily without clumping. It wears well throughout the day sans smudging or flaking plus it removes fairly easily.

But…

It’s a fail in my opinion.

First off the price was nearly $11 bucks at taxes. Hello, expensive. I can buy high end for that.

Secondly, it does indeed create longer lashes but the problem is it separates lashes a little too much so the fringe of longer lashes you get are looking sparse due to the lack of curl the mascara fails to produce and the fact that it doesn’t make lashes look fuller and fatter. Simply put it lengthens and separates a little too much creating the effect of longer lashes that actually look sparse due to larger spaces in between lashes.

The good news is it might be a life saver for anyone with shorter, sparser lashes as it’ll give you nice lenght however if your lashes are fuller you might notice this doesn’t exactly do you any favors.

  • Anyone with shorter lashes may experience nice added length.

  • Anyone seeing fuller looking lashes (length yes, full, fatter lashes, NO!).

Personally I wouldn’t bother if you have fuller lashes already. This isn’t going to do you any great favors unless you enjoy a longer lash look that has a noticeable separated look. I personally like my lashes to look longer and fuller not just longer with gaps in between. Overall, L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara may work for those with shorter, stubbier lashes however anyone with naturally longer lashes might wish to avoid and try something else as I didn’t have great results with this.

No likey.

Anyone try this?

What did you think?

Are your lashes long or short?

Aww I like the brush shape but sucks that it doesn’t work well. I read your initial comment as fluffier lashes 😛

    • the Muse

mehhhhhhhhhhhh no likey dd. Results aren’t that dramatic for me to recommend 😛

      • Phyrra

Yeah and the price is high for a drugstore brand, like you said.

Right now I’m loving Flirt! It Curls mascara and Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe 🙂

I like dramatic results, but tend to get the best if I use some sort of mascara primer.

        • the Muse

It’s $9.79 or at least that’s what I paid DD plus the taxes near 11 bucks. thanks but no thanks ;-D I like the rimmel one I reviewed a few weeks ago, that’s working out well for me. Flirt It Curls is actually pretty decent I agree ;D

          • Phyrra

I need to show you a vid of me putting on mascara. You’ll laugh so hard, but understand why I need the larger/weirder brushes. I can’t manage without them.

  • rubysbeauty

Oh I hate gaps in my lashes! I also am not a fan of the huge brushes. I have yet to find my HG mascara, I do like Maybelline Full ‘n Soft, and am going to try L’oreal Voluminous next time as I’ve heard great things about it.

    • the Muse

me too ruby 🙁 I prefer longer AND fuller. You’ll have to tell me how you get on with it 😀

    • the Muse

same here Stepahnie. It’s a monster. I’m too klutzy, likely I’ll poke an eye out with this!

  • Wendy

After seeing your photos, I won’t bother trying it! lol I hated Lash Blast and the fat, rubber wands do nothing for my lashes.

    • the Muse

this will gain some sort of cult following Wendy I imagine like Lash Blast but I fail to see the incredible-ness of either 😛

  • Emilie

I bought this over the weekend and it waste of the $8 or so dollars I paid for it. I already have really full lashes and it made my lashes clump together and it was just gross. I have to say if you have thick lashes, skip it.

I didn’t think the brush was too big though but maybe that’s just me since I normally use Diorshow.

  • Appu

Nothing beats the Voluminous Carbon Black till date! I love that one mascara so much 🙂

  • Sophia

I’m not a big fan of the big brushes. Plus, I agree with you, it seems a little pricey. Nice review though!

  • rose

I totally agree with you! I love this mascara it’s my second favorite (after lash blast) It works wonders for me and gives me that false lash effect but indeed, I have sparse asian lashes (although they do hold a curl pretty well)

  • Ellie

What’s with the massive brushes?? I don’t care how great the formula of a mascara is… I’m not going to use it if the huge wand gets all over the place, but not to the little lashes in the corners of my eyes. It’s why I hated lashblast, diorshow, etc. I’ll stick to my lash stiletto <3
    🙂

    • the Muse

Same here Ellie it’s one of my main probs with Covergirl Lashblast that wand is HUGE

  • Telle

Thanks Muse! I don’t like super huge brushes like this and last blast so I will save myself some money! Thanks 🙂

  • Coral

That makes me sad. I was expecting a million lashes to be the most awesome thing in the world! Especially with packaging like that. Guess I’ll have to wait till it goes on major sale before I go experimenting on my own.

  • Brooke

honestly i bot this over the weekend n i luuuuvvv it…it’s awesome!!!!!! i have long but thin lashes n this makes em look amaaaazing, i found em to look longer n fuller n blacker n just gorgeous…my lashes didn’t look anything like urs did in the pic cuz remember everyone’s eyes n lashes n stuff r different so we’re all gonna get different results..so yeah that’s my take on it cuz remember everybody’s different! i gotta say i really do like big wands tho, i don’t have any issues with em now but they do take some gettin used 2 at first…practice makes perfect i guess lolz! then again i like small wands just fine 2.

  • Kim

I’ve tried it and I really don’t like it. I am asian so a have tiny straight lashes. Yes it does add volume and defenition, but it does nothing for lengthening. I will stick to my maybeline Falsies.

    • the Muse

can’t blame ya kim, I didn’t see anything dramatic happening after use 😛

  • Laurie

I bought this over the weekend and don’t mind the big brush, but has anyone else noticed the smell from this mascara. It goes away within the first two hours of applying it. I can’t remember another one that smelled this way. Maybe I just have a sensitive nose but it’s weird.

    • the Muse

def smelled it laurie. It goes away after application but removing the application you get a healthy whiff of something chemical-like 😛

  • Rita

I just bought this mascara last night and used it this morning… I thought it was mucho sucko… =(

  • Rita

    Thank you!

My favorite mascara, “Luxurious Lengths” by Revlon was discontinued a while back and I have been on the hunt ever since.

    What is your fave? =)

  • deena

terrible 🙁 why is this in the voluminous line if it has NO volume? i’m embarrassed to go to work 🙁

  • Donna

Didn’t flake? Are you kidding? By the time I got home my face looked like it had snowed ash all over it!
Tought it went on okay… don’t mind the larger wand head… the gapping and flaking just killed me.

  • Anita

I am with Brooke, the first time I used it, I absolutely loved it. Went on with no clumping and made my lashes long and full. I don’t mind paying extra for something I like and works well. For me because it did not clump was a hugh selling factor for me. I hate clumps.

  • Ayesha

on the contrary, i adore this mascara! i have kinda short lashes, and it makes mine look longer and fuller, no clumps, it doesn’t flake. the voluminous mascara didn’t give me length, but million lashes did everything for me, and i got it for only $7 with a coupon and it came down to $5.

  • laura ,lowney

love love love it!!!!!!!!!!!L’Oreal Voluminous is the best and ladies you can return used make up to cvs thats how i found the perfect mascara been thru plenty

  • isabel

After reading a lot of good reviews of L’Oreal Million Lashes Mascara (even making it into 2011’s must-buys in certain websites), i decided to get myself one and was beyond excited. Unfortunately, my heart sank when I tried them on for the first time. My lashes are ordinary so I was looking for some oomph. Muse, you’re so right – it did a good job separating my lashes but it didn’t do much to lengthen (unlike other mascaras wherein you can build up) nor did it add volume. I ended up just using it for when I do an everday makeup look for sorta-natural-looking lashes.

  • Anne

It seems I’ve been looking for the perfect mascara my whole life. This is not it! I used it for the first time today, and was so disappointed. My lashes clumped together, and looked “spikey” rather than curled. I had little black flakes on my cheeks immediately after applying it. The mascara smells AWFUL, and the “black-brown” shade was too black for me. I’m a fair redhead, so I really prefer brown mascara but it’s hard to find. I should have stuck to my good old Cover Girl “Lash Perfection” in brown instead of wasting $10.00 on this product. Very disappointing.

  • Autumn

I saw this for under $3, and I have short stubby lashes so went for it. My lashes are kind of thick and tend to clump, so separation is important to me. If I don’t have my Tweerman comb with me, I usually won’t bother because I’ll just end up with thick spider leg monster lashes.

This is my new favorite mascara, and I love it for the reason others don’t. The fat brush with so many tiny bristles pulls every single lash apart, almost to the point of doll eyes. I don’t need to comb, my thick but stubby lashes actually look long and perfectly aligned, with a few coats it’s almost fake lash good looking.

So maybe a terrible mascara for fine and thin lashes, but those with lots of lashes that grow all different directions might love how it tames your lashes and makes every single one stand out. Plus, it ain’t bad for length or color, and I love the very light, soft feel of it. Not flaky, not crunchy or stiff. For the sale price, I’m gonna go get more. And thank you Muse for the review, it was part of the reason I bought it, so thank you for always being so objective and right when it comes to knowing who might like the things others don’t!
