MAC A Tartan Tale A Lady & Her Tricks Buff & Line Brush Collection Review, Photos
When it comes to MAC Brush Sets, the choice of purchasing one, is a personal decision. Some MAC fans think the brushes aren’t as fabulous as the full size ones, where as others feel like they are just as good.
I personally fall in the middle. I don’t think they are nearly as great as a full size brush purchase from MAC however I find the size very convenient and easy to use plus feel they travel a heck of alot easier than any full size brush I own.
Let’s explore one of the MAC A Tartan Tale Brush Sets today.
The set I have here today is the MAC A Lady & Her Tricks Buff & line Brush Collection. It basically contains essentials for basic face and eye application. The set costs $49.50 and includes five mini MAC brushes plus a generous plaid pouch with strap so it can be worn over the shoulder or as a makeup bag when the strap is detached.
First off, I must admit, I probably wouldn’t sport this as a purse as it’s a tad corny to do so but of course this really is dependent on your own personal style and taste. It is a generous size so you can store a good deal of makeup inside for traveling.
Brushes inside include the 187 (aka Skunk or Stripling Brush), 252, 219, 168, and 209. The brushes are all excellent and have no shedding with soft bristles although in some cases I find the brushes aren’t as soft as a normal size but regardless they are not scratchy or too dense.
I find the 219 and 209 fit my hand very comfortable and I embrace this size for application even better than the full size. The mini size gives me more of a grip on the brush allowing for precise application. I like using the 219 to apply product into my crease or my outer v and proceeding to blend out with another brush. 252 I also prefer the small size and feel like I have more control over the brush because of its size.
168 and 187 suffer no problems either both perform just as well as their large sizes. The only difference I do notice with the 187 is the brush hairs tend to split a bit more after washings and use. I have several of the mini size and feel like my larger stands up to what I throw at it a bit better. However, 168 shows no such wear and in some cases I prefer its smaller size to the larger I already own.
Broken down the brushes cost around $10 each plus the bag is just a nice extra thrown in the mix. MAC Brushes normally range more than 50% more of that price and upwards so I personally think the sets are a great deal particularly if you’re looking to extend your collection of brushes or you have very little brushes to speak of.
Purchasing one is a personal choice as I said above but I’m a middle man and find that I enjoy the brushes and appreciate them but also can see some of their flaws in the long run.
Would I recommend a purchase?
Yes, simply because I feel it’s a great deal and offers alot of options with a little price tag. Newer fans to MAC will be able to get a great deal of product that won’t set them back 100’s of dollars.
Great deal in my opinion.
