MAC A Tartan Tale Dashing Lassies Eye Shadow Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

I’m pretty sure a bell rang, an angel got its wings, or a kitten got its whiskers because Holiday is now in full force courtesy of the Sephora Friends and Family Event. I swear this time of year totally launches me right into full force Holiday mode and now I’m bracing myself for the upcoming shopping trips ahead.

And to get us even more deeper into the festive good year, MAC will launch A Tartan Tale next week! Yes, it’s time now kids.

Are you full force holiday yet?

Well, let me aid your along if you aren’t with a look at the MAC A Tartan Tale Dashing Lassies Eye Shadow Palette.

Jump!

Ah this is what we wait for, ye old eyeshadow palette release from MAC. This year we have four shadow palettes to look forward from MAC. As traditional as Turkey, loud family members, and presents, MAC Eyeshadow Palettes are ones we’ve come to depend on year after year and they rarely disappoint even though sometimes it’s a bit of a rehash of years past.

I got my hands on one a little early which is the Dashing Lassies Eye Shadow Palette. This one leans towards being fairy neutral but quite warm.

Shades you get are Once Upon a Time (metallic vanilla), Bronze (copper-y penny), A Dashing Lassie (metallic milk), Magical Mist (taupe), Showstopper (dark matte brown), and Buckwheat (medium brown).

The first tier of the palette is a bit of a bore but if you’re one for “cutting your crease” and you embrace such a look this is a great selection to use to do so. The second tier is made up of far warmer shades that will compliment brown eyes beautifully. I’m partial to shades like these myself. It goes without saying the formula of the shadows is outstanding and has plenty of pigmentation with a great formula for blending, at this, MAC always exceeds.

The palette itself features the a traditional green plaid design. I mentioned in an earlier post that I wasn’t sure how these palettes would withstand the test of time as I do worry the design will stain or ruin if they get wet but we shall see.

I think MAC A Tartan Tale isn’t my favorite Holiday release this year nor is it my favorite from MAC in most recent years however some of the selections are interesting enough to warrant a purchase particularly from the color collection. And of course, new fans will undoubtedly find the joy in the collection particularly because it packs so much value into makeup.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the Holiday selections!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Is it me or are the shades boring? And shadows looks similar to the NYX nude palette mayhaps?

  • chelsea

Sooo is it safe to say skip this palette if you have the UD Naked palette?

    • the Muse

chelsea wouldn’t say skip it, the shades are pretty diff from Naked considering naked has alot of brown and this has more taupe, copper, etc

  • robyn

    meh
but the name dashing ladies is awesome

completely unrelated but have you seen 30 seconds to mars yet like a month away for me i was just looking at all my gig tickets and wondered “hmm has muse seen them yet”

    • the Muse

hey robyn sorry delayed reply girl. Yes I have, five times ;-D LOVE them! ;-D are you going!?

  • Lisa

I bought the Smoke & Mirrors palette last year and the pigmentation was not good on that one so I’m really reluctant to buy any this year, even if the cool palette is appealing to me a little, hehe.

When I see swatches of new collection on Specktra….I want them all. Then when I see swatches on various sites, on different skintone people, I just start to filter the list.
I ges thats the besuty of multiple Beauty blogs and websites. Everyone has something to offer and help making decisions!

Pretty colors but very very basic to me. These are colors I used when I started learning how to do my makeup (not a bad thing!) Just not very exciting for such a hyped collection

It might be a bit boring but it’s right up my fairly conservative alley! I might get this instead of the Naked palette, actually, because awesome as the Naked palette is, it has some shades that are a bit dark for me and possibly a bit too much sparkle.

These colors don’t seem as pigmented, or is it just me? I thought about getting a palette, but seeing these swatches kind of turned me off

  • Ruthless

I seem to remember purchasing a Christmas palette and the quality and pigmentation wasn’t as good as individual shadow pans, I will have to wait and see what else comes out

    • the Muse

I always like ’em ruthless ;-D depends I guess! You can always head to counter and swatch, play ;D

Magical Mist is the only colour I like, the rest is a bit too warm for me to get the palette.
they are sooo tiny, but that makes them so great for travel!
