Marc Jacobs Lola Velvet Limited Edition Eau de Parfum Spray Review, Photos

My first introduction to Lola was when I was a mere babe and my parents had this monster cabinet. Inside the cabinet was an 8-Track Tape Player, yeah, my parents are obviously old and stuff, and a record player. On an old 45 (those are what smaller records were called way back in the time of dinosaurs) was Lola. She was a Show Girl.

No, but seriously, my first introduction to anything Lola was a Show Girl that Barry Manilow sung his little lungs out about. These things stick with you well into adulthood when you’re exposed to them as such a young age so now anytime I hear Lola I simply think of that tune and my foot starts tapping and I have a sudden urge to burst into song.

Now Marc Jacobs Lola has that Show Girl vibe with a big giant flower decking its bottle topper and I can’t help but thing of super fabulous Show Girls (not the washed up variety, promise!).

Are you a Marc Jacobs Lola fan?

Jump!

I am now.

To celebrate her first anniversary this Fall, Marc Jacobs launched a limited-edition Lola bottle, just as fabulous as she always was, but the petals of her flower topper are of the velvety variety. Of course, part of Lola’s appeal is her outrageous bottle. It’s fun, eccentric, and different.

Although Lola has been out and available for the past year this is my first try with the girl. I dunno why but I wasn’t sure I’d like her at first which is what kept my nose away but soon after trying a simple sniff I was hooked. She’s playful, flirty, and has a dominate note of rose which I simply adore. Rose and I are tight dontcha know.

But rose isn’t the only note that plays in this game. She opens up with a fresh burst of rose but notes of pink peppercorn near the beginning of her opening number and hints of fruity pear and tart grapefruit soon follow. Her dry down is warmer and she morphs into a sensuous vanilla with that beautiful linger of rose that I love so very much!

The bottle’s topper’s multi-layered cap shaped into a bursting bouquet may be what draws you to Lola at first but it’s her scent that will keep you around for longer.

No wilted flowers here, just pure, beautiful fragrance.

Likey!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I want to like this fragrance so badly b/c the bottle’s so pretty, but it’s just meh on me. Plus I’ve found that the scent only lasts a couple of hours 🙁 Doesn’t stop me from trying it on every time I’m at Sephora tho!

I love the velvet flower bottle! But unfortunately, Marc Jacobs and I don’t get along fragrance-wise…I do not like a single one of his fragrances! I can still appreciate the lovely bottle, and I love that it’s named Lola…Copacabana is def also what pops into my head too when I hear it! : )

Oh Muse, Lola is my HG fragrance. I just bought the huge bottle on Sephora in my FF haul. I’m so happy you love it. It’s also one of the most expensive beauty splurges of mine, it’s just that worth it to me! 🙂

Have you tried Rock N Rose by Valentino? It’s another beautiful rose-dominated scent. It’s another one of my favs.

  • Deborah

LOVE Lola. It’s been my “go to” sample. Haven’t bought it yet, but it will be my next fragrance purchase.

Have you been to the Nordstrom beauty trend shows? Just went to my first one. Should have been more fun. And really NO samples!

I’m glad your first introduction to Lola was from Barry Manilow and not The Kinks (…”she walked like a woman but talked like a man…”)!
