Musings of the Day: Do You Regret Your Tattoo?

I was flipping through a Lucky magazine while waiting for my flu shot last week and came across a product that promises to fade tattoos. Crazy right? You mean no laser surgery if you’re feeling regretful and remorseful. Hell, I’d go all out tattoo crazy if I knew I could fade them at home when I got tired of ’em.

Does it work? Probably not.

But wanna take a look?

And by the way, do you regret your own ink?

Any remorse?

I know for myself I’d probably regret it if I did ever take the dive because I’d grow tired of the design and want something new and obviously that’s impossible right?

Wrecking Balm is a three step process that you do for 3 minutes of every other day to fade tattoos. Crazy right? I dunno if it works but I thought it was interesting they have an at home tattoo fade system, that’s not something you see everyday is it?

Anyway..

Do you regret your ink?

Wish you could remove it?

Why?

I have 6 tattoos and I don’t regret getting any of them. What I do regret is my choice of artists. One of my tattoos, the one which is most visible of them all, was done by an artist who is said to be fantastic and very talented. It’s the sloppiest I have. 🙁 I wish I could have it redone, but sadly it doesn’t seem to be possible.

    • the Muse

aw shamini that’s terrible. Is it possible to have it retouched by another artist to make it look better?!

  • JoElla

Do I have a tat? No.. I am too much of a wimp for the pain. But I am considering getting a teeny tiny orange ribbon near my surgery scar from kidney cancer when I reach the “3 year you are all clear” mark. I really like that idea, but like I said, I am a total baby and prolly not go through with it.

Now back to this product.. this totally makes me think of that old SNL skit about a product like this! LOLOLOL anyone remember that?

    • the Muse

Awww Jo I think that’s an awesome gesture but can totally relate to the wimping out part ;-D noooo! tell me more can I find this skit on youtube?! ;D!

    • courtney

JoElla i’m totally creeping here, but that sounds awesome! I think you should do the tattoo and celebrate life!

  • Kelly S

Yeah, I definitely regret mine. I got one on my 18th birthday and my friend picked it out and said she’d get the same one when she turned 18. However, when she turned 18, she got a different tattoo! Lame! So now I’m stuck with this stupid tribal thing on the back of my neck. I wish I could afford laser removal because I’d get it done in a heartbeat.

    • the Muse

aw kelly I’m so sorry to hear it 🙁 That’s hard to hide too if you have your hair up 🙁

  • S.

I got a couple crappy tattoos when I was much younger, and have lived t regret it. I did end up opting for laser removal, which hurts less than laser hair removal, and takes several sessions to do.

After reading about this, and how it works, I’d pass, that sounds like it could go horribly awry. I’m not really a fan of taking a cheese grater to my skin. :/

    • the Muse

hi s, I’m not even sure this would work ;-D so def can relate to the cheese grater comment 😀

      • S.

Oddly enough, it is one of the methods to choose from to remove tattoos, but I would prefer a professional doing that!

        Yikes!

Also, huge fan of the blog, first time posting. 🙂

        • the Muse

aw thanks S! so glad you enjoy my Musings xoxo ;-D Def would rely on a pro to do it lol a home kit sounds scary!

  • shannon

i have one tattoo that i got in memory of my mother and is beautiful and has deep meaning. that being said…
it is in japanese characters so people tend to assume i’m a “bandwagon’er” of japanese script unless you can read it,
and when i explain the story behind the tattoo, eyes glaze over since the idea comes from an obscure japanese story (my neighbor tororo)

so while i adore my tattoo, it’s tough to explain! =p

    • the Muse

aw shannon sounds lovely ;-D Adore my neighbor totoro, such a great anime ;-D

  • peri

i have three tattoos, and i dont regret any of them. i do, however, regret not getting one of them done in one sitting…because its been a few years now and its still not done…its a rather large anklet of frogs, very thick, and it hurt like a bitch…which is why its still not done lol. i also have one, a pink star, but the color faded out…apparently my skin didnt like the hot pink, so im gonna get it refilled with another color lol. but thats not that big a deal.

  • peri

lol…i collect frogs. my sister got me a frog pin that was so pretty, i had it turned into a tattoo anklet lol. its still not done. i had it done like 5 years ago lol. it hurt a lot. i almost blacked out.

    • the Muse

whoa peri that bad? ok if I ever wanted ink at all that scared me LOL ;-D frogs, that’s so unusual ;D

  • Anna

That’s kinda cool for job interviews. Personally, I have 2 tattoos and will have done another 3 by January.

  • Nicole Gruska

I have the word LOVE tattooed on my wrist in all caps. I got it when I was 19 (three years back) and I don’t regret it. I got it when my best friend finally admitted her self-injury problem… it’s inspired by TWLOHA… <3 And I have my son's name on the back of my neck.

      • Marina

To Write Love On Her Arms—Sorry to “interrupt.” I’ve been to a couple of their concerts 🙂 So inspirational!
If I ever were to get a tattoo, I’d probably want it on my wrist. It’d be an Anberlin lyric (some of them are sooo beautiful), a bible verse, or a quote…probably a J.R.R. Tolkien quote…”all that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost. The old that is strong does not wither; deep roots are not reached by the frost.”

          • Marina

Oh, me either! It also does not help that I hate, hate, hate needles.

      • Nicole Gruska

To Write Love On Her Arms… it’s a charity for self-injury and depression, and suicide and such. Well, I support them because of my best friend. <3

  • jonnie

I love my two tattoos… I don’t regret them! I would like to have more, actually, but I don’t think I will. The two I have mean a lot to me (although like one of the other posters, one of mine is kanji from a manga/anime so it is probably perceived as bandwagonish by people)… if I do get another, it would have to mean as much as the other two, and I’m not sure of what that would be just now.

As for the pain, I won’t lie and say mine didn’t hurt, but it really wasn’t that bad. I kind of liked it in a sick sort of way… although there’s no way I’d try to get one around my ankle – I bet that would make me black out too! So bony there… yikes! The ankle band poster is a brave person!

  • rowan

    i would never get a tattoo…because i hate them.
on a different note, this kind of product fades tattoos, but they cant remove them, only laser can do that.

  • Sarah

I have about 40 hours worth of work (in other words so many tattoos i can’t really count them lol) and i don’t regret any, my last two are about 3 weeks old and i’m itching for more. I can’t imagine getting a tattoo just to cover it up! That being said i can cover mine for professional reasons if i need to, a long sleeve business suit works just fine 🙂

  • Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex

I have one tattoo, “XXVI.II” on my right side, which is 26.2 in roman numerals. That’s the length of a marathon, and I got it the week after I ran my first 🙂 I don’t regret it at all, and don’t think I ever will, because it represents a huge accomplishment.

  • triner

I have 9 tattoos. A few I regret based on execution, but not on meaning. I’d rather just have a great artist design a cover up than try to do this stuff. The chemicals alone frighten me.
Also, tattoos are fun and awesome! But if you can’t commit, there are lots of the pen eye-liners that you can draw on yourself with.
Also also: tattoos don’t hurt that bad. I have a sissy pain tolerance and still have one on each foot and wrist and my ankle and they weren’t that bad. Easier to heal than a piercing, that’s for sure!

  • Ryou

I have 3 at the moment, and I do regret one of them. However, that’s because it was so poorly made. >.< (It was my first one)

  • Sophia

I have one tattoo. It’s on my ankle and it’s the Red Hot Chili Peppers sign. I got it a few days after my 18th birthday, and now I’m 22. I still love it. It reminds me of how that music helped me through a lot of tough stuff, and it also reminds how that music has connected all the dots in my life. 🙂 I don’t regret it at all. Awesome post idea, by the way. Is it OK if I borrow the topic of tattoos from you? Thank you!

  • robyn

i dont regret my tattoo at all
and i plan to get loads more
ive been tattoo mad since i was like 14 tho and desperately wanting the one i got for like a year before i got it
although im 17 so i guess i could still live to regret it but i very much doubt it
i think this product is dangerous tho as i bet it doesnt work and there will be people who see the ad and think it fine to get a tattoo cause they can just remove it … only to find doesnt work and they are stuck with a tattoo

  • LorraineER

I have four tattoos and I thought the first two I got turned out crappy so I got one of them redone (love it now!) and the other I want either covered up by something else, or just modified somehow to look better. I still like the idea behind it but the artist did a crappy job. I regret that I didn’t go to someone better for the first two but I don’t regret that I got tattooed. I want more of them once I get the crappy one sorted. They are addictive, imo!

  • Anna

I have 2 tats- one is an Amy Brown fairy on my upper back the other is my daughters initials in the shape of a heart-lower back. I need one more around my ankle and then I throw in the tattoo towel. Love them all.
