Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick Review, Swatches, Photos

As you know the new Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick was available as a special preview at select retailers online recently.

The official line up is in stores December 6th and will feature 44 shades of this new lipstick which sports a formula that not only cover lips in luxurious color but also treats them so youll notice smoother, gorgeous lips in as little as 7 days.

I’ve used one a few days here are my thoughts….

44 Shades of a new lipstick line that Covergirl will be releasing early December 2010 with a formula that gives lips a more hydrated, smoother appearance within 7 days.

Now Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick pretty much covers a wide spectrum of color and in some ways you can compare Covergirl’s Collection to this idea however this particular lipstick is a treatment lipstick of sorts that promises a smoother lip look within a few days. Does it work? I’m not sure. After wearing it a few days I can’t say my lips look any smoother in all honestly however when it’s on my lips feel smoother if that counts for anything.

I think Lip Perfection Lipstick, if they get the color selection spot on, can easily become a go to for many who have tolerated Color Sensational for so long. I personally tolerate Color Sensational from time to time because they have some VERY tempting shades however the formula isn’t that great and the taste is awful. Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick? None of these problems.

For something that promises softer lips in the long run the formula is a ickle disappointing since it doesn’t have an incredibly moisturizing formula. It doesn’t have that beautiful wet, moist feel however it does have a good, solid glide. The color glides on very well and has a really incredibly lightweight formula. For something so pigmented I was surprised it wore so weightless. Drugstore lipstick that’s pigmented normally feels very heavy on or has a really bad application with a bit of tugging and fussing involved, Covergirl’s did not.

I tried the shade Classic Red which is such an odd name considering it’s not really all that red at all. It comes across rather warm reddish on my lips leaning towards a bit of maroon and a bit of brown and a bit of warmer red. Classic Red? Nay. Pretty? Yay. Nice shade overall and definitely suitable for my skin tone.

It has a faint vanilla taste which thankfully isn’t gross or bitter. Packaging is a simple yet nice affair that features a metallic-like case, bit flimsy, no weight behind it, but nice regardless.

Couldn’t help but wish this was more moisturizing. I expected a really shiny finish however it comes across more creamy. I guess I automatically assumed the whole smoother lip look would mean a hydrating lipstick.

  • Anyone who wants a lightweight lipstick with full color payoff!
  • Those seeking a good budget lipstick with a wide range of colors to choose from.
  • Anyone who wants a smooth, flawless lip look (this has one of those “wrapping” formula that engulfs lips and makes them look very smooth and gorgeous).

  • Anyone seeking a moisturizing, shiny lipstick.

It’s a very good lipstick but I’m not particularly excited about the formula and probably wouldn’t indulge in another but you can chalk that up to my snotty high end personality talking. For those on a budget that already like Maybelline Color Sensational but want something more, I think Covergirl Lip Perfection might have what you seek.

As for smoother lips?

I’ll have to use it a bit longer before I decide!

Have you tried Covergirl Lip Perfect Lipstick?

I tried it and well…..I was not happy. It is the same ingredients as the old lipsticks and the Max Factor Color Perfection that was launched in 2006. Also they had 44 shades and had the word “perfection” in it. Its like they just repackaged it =( They smell was too fruity for a lipstick. I like how they have the real color at the bottom of the package. I do not like how fingerprints are left behind on the package as you use it.

hi makeup queen. I honestly didn’t compare ingreds so I’ll take your word on it ;-D!

I didn’t notice a fruity smell, mine was kinda vanilla-ish. I agree about the fingerprints, what a pain 😛

the lipsticks from maybelline are ok. nothing splendid. i think Nars and Estee Lauder both kick butt in the lipstick department. maybelline should stick to what they do best,.,…mascara, eyeliner, and eye color.

It just kills me how these brands promote something that’s either “long-wearing” or “smoother” or “moisturizing”, but don’t live up to the advertising. I can’t fathom why companies would just blatantly lie to try and make people buy their product and make money. That’s why I return makeup that I’m not satisfied with or that doesn’t live up to what’s expected of it.

    • the Muse

hi promise in it’s defense they don’t promote the lipstick as moisturizing. It’s actually pimped out as a treatment lipstick that promises smoother lips in 7 days. I mentioned in my post that I assumed it would be more moisturizing b/c of the promise of smoother lips however CG doesn’t promise that type of formula. Hope this helps hun.

oh god promise no need for apologies. rant away, I do my fair share of it ;-D I can relate to everything you said! ;-D

I love the packaging! This color reminds me of a shade I use to have years ago. What’s the name?

  • SJG

Does it at least keep from turning orange on your lips? Cover Girl has always had some great shades in their basic lipstick, but have them on long enough and it doesn’t matter the shade, it turns orange and dry.

  • CherryPoppins

I’ve brought 4 shades and I love them. Don’t know about the moisturizing. But it feels good and smooth on my lips. I don’t like shiny lipsticks, that is what gloss or balm is for. I like the matte/ dry finish lipstick. They are definitely a rave and I would recommend them to anyone.

  • Sociopathicafh

I love the color… I just put moisturizing lip balm for moisture. My lips turn orange for almost 3 or 4 days… I hate it. I wear it for an hour or so & take it off before my lips turn orange… why does it turn orange? Ugh

i LOVE these lipsticks and i love the color range. compared to maybelline’s colorrush lipsticks, these are superior, i think, in terms of color selection and feel. i dont know about how each compares for length of wear, but i don’t care because i always reapply lipstick multiple times a day. *glee* i didn’t see this color in canada though…classic red?! i will have to double check for it.

have you seen the queen collection in stores for the lip perfection lipsticks, Muse?

  • Julie Hanson

These were disappointing to me. I tried Siren (the tube shows a bright pink) and Fairy Tale (the tube shows a bright coral red – it’s actually kind of a flat orange). Neither match the color swatch, though Siren is closer. The texture is not creamy or moisturizing particularly. Just another drugstore lipstick, so don’t get your hopes up.

  • Drtvrmoi

I looked for the shade you referenced, Classic Red, and it’s not shown on store displays or website. Could it have a different name?

    • the Muse

that’s what the bottom of the tube says drtvrmoi. Hope this helps!?

  • savannah

I really enjoy these. I have bought several and they all look very nice. Definitely better than the Maybelline ones. The color payoff for these are fantastic! Definitely worth buying several.

  • CJ

I am used to non-moisturizing lipsticks so I enjoy the texture of this. The problem is the color selection… Daring looked so pretty as a hand swatch but on my lips it’s kind of a bright purply mauve. Pretty disappointed

  • CarrieAnne

This is rather old but I was interested to see how you compared the new Colorlicious to the Lip Perfection. I agree about the color selection being quite expansive – the formula is too opaque for my lip texture. I am so in love with Sonia Kashuk’s lip products right now, I cannot stop buying them (minus the tinted balm; that one was slippery and not stay-put at all). At between $8-$11 a pop, though, it gets a bit spendy. 😉 I do wear my lip stuff a little more on the medium to sheer side with a satiny or glossy finish preferred, so I think that is why I love the SK. To me, that kicks tail way beyond any MAC, EL, or boutique brand (except Clinique ’cause I think they do an awesome job keeping the sensitivity and color range in mind for their customers). I skip this one altogether after one icky experience with a “dead zombie lip” look from a pink-nude Lip Perfection.

This is old but in 2013 i hated these. the formula separated and the color did not work. Bought the same shade yesterday and i must say i love it!! (though i couldn’t tell you where i put it)
