Lorac Box Office Sensation Train Case Review, Swatches, Photos
Doesn’t it feel like palettes are really front and center this year for the Holidays? Traditionally palettes are commonly associated with the Holiday Makeup Season but this year is super saturated with all sorts of incredible offerings from brands.
Perfect example, the Lorac Box Office Sensation Train Case aka OMG I can’t believe they fit that much makeup in there!
Jeepers this is a crazy amount of product and at such a great price and an even better price if you happened to haul it during Sephora Friends and Family.

A traincase with swing out drawers that includes 36 Eyeshadows, 9 Lip Glosses, 3 Blushes, and a Duo Bronzer.
If you take just the eyeshadows in this case and tally up a total cost per shadow you’re looking at $324 worth of Lorac Eyeshadow considering normal shadows cost $18 and are 0.06 oz where as these shadows are 0.03. So 36 divided by 2 is 18 and 18 multiplied by $18 is $324. Do the math, you’re getting a deal here to say the least and mind you that’s not counting the blush, bronze, and glosses you also get.
The palette comes in the traditional faux croc design that Lorac favors for most of its products. It’s surprisingly compact for the amount of product that comes housed inside. I placed it up against a Bobbi Brown and Stila Travel Palette so you can see the size. I love how portable and tiny it is. It opens with a button snap and flips up to reveal two top trays of eyeshadows, swing these out and you’ll reveal two more trays, and finally swing these out and you’ll come to the base which houses the lipglosses and four blushes/bronzer.
The shadows pretty much cover a range of various colors so you won’t be at a loss for any shade here. You have golds, browns, blues, purples, greens, etc….the only shades lacking were some nice variations of aqua or teal. I find with bigger palettes like this you sometimes forsake quality but Lorac remains consistent with its formula here and the shadows all sport that super silky, finely milled powder formula that has very nice pigmentation. If you’re more for a subtle formula these will appeal however MAC users may find them lacking as the formula isn’t quite as up to par in that texture realm however for those who like an easier to use eyeshadow these are ideal. They have a buttery soft feel and blend easily and flawlessly however prepping is key as they do tend to migrate some if you’re not careful enough to prime your lid correctly.
The blushes are quite good as well, again, sporting the same Lorac formula as always and not lacking quality or pigmentation. The lipglosses aren’t glosses in my opinion but more along the lines of lip creams with nice pigmentation.
I did not like the lip glosses in this palette nor will I probably make proper use of them however I do appreciate they are pretty much isolated from the powder products in the palette so you aren’t in for a mess. These are hard textured and feel more like a lipstick but I just wasn’t loving them in all honesty.
Although tiny this does prove a little difficult to use in say a washroom for application since the tiers of shadows refuse to remain open. The top layer is fine but if you’d using shades from the middle layer the top tiers tend to close shut which I find irritating during application.
Lorac includes four eye looks on the box however no instructions for doing the looks. Normally they have step by step instructions in some of their palettes. I’d have loved a handy little guide for creating a few looks using the shades.
You have to blend delicately with these otherwise they can run a bit muddy at times depending on shades used however the formula remains consistent through the entire palette and is of quality.
- Anyone wanting a heck of alot more for a heck of alot less (49 products in on place for $56 is a hell of a deal).
- Anyone just starting out in makeup (these shadows are some of the easiest to apply and you can create beautiful, simple looks using them).
- Anyone who loves soft, velvet shadows of color with a tiny bit of sparkle.
- MAC fans or fans of heavier makeup (Lorac has a unique and different shadow formula and it can’t be measured up in terms of MAC).
- Anyone who isn’t keen having lip and powder products in one place (I personally felt this wasn’t a big deal as you can shut the tier to cover the lip products as you work with the powder. Therefore, preventing a mess).
- Anyone who isn’t a fan of hard textured lipglosses (these were all a sore disappointment).
Although I felt like I’d never make proper use of the lip products in this palette, I still felt it was a heck of a deal and very much feel it deserves a Muse Approval. The palette just offers so MUCH in one place and doesn’t forgo quality to give it to us. Lorac shadows are always a pleasure to work with and have such a unique formula and I love having so many to choose from in one place. It has a few quirks here and there but for the most part Lorac Box Office Sensation is just that, a sensation!
