Musings of the Day: What do you think of the Sephora Holiday Catalog 2010?

I know we looked at the Sephora Holiday Catalog yesterday but its kinda traditional for me to take snaps of the seasonal catalog and place ’em up in a post as I really enjoy looking through it by myself but I find it even more fun to discuss it and look at it with all of you since you’re as beauty obsessed as I am.

Here’s a few pictures of the catalog if you haven’t already gotten it or if you’re sadly abroad and won’t be able to see it for yourself.

Some things I took note of….

Kinda disappointed that they are doing a paper tag on the gift boxes this year. I used to like when they had little snowflakes and such attached to the gift boxes remember those days? I think, but can’t confirm, that the mirror case for the gift certificate will probably be black, again, something else to miss. I used to collect the mirror compacts every year but it’s been a while since they did a themed ones such as the circus one, ice blue one, and red one from years past.

Speaking of themes….I do love some of the vibrant, bold looks in the catalog but I miss the theme that Sephora does during the Holidays. Enchanted, Circus, Etc……the looks don’t really spark Winter or Holiday in me.

Aside from that I’m happy to see it’s a larger catalog but sadly it doesn’t contain a ton of products, they could have added in so much more. Instead they do large focuses on new skin care and such which isn’t particularly festive to me, shrug.

What do you think of this year’s Sephora Holiday Catalog 2010?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I liked the whole design of the catalog (all the bold colors n such), but I definately agree with you that there weren’t a lot of products listed, and the few that I liked, I already have lol. So not very exciting =\

ha cj I guess we got in early with our shopping..!? but really they didn’t include half of the holiday goodies they could have!

The gift card compact this year is red and says “celebrate” on it. I think last year was the only year they didn’t have a special one. The year before it was white with red lips on it. Before that Silver for enchanted. Then circus, ice blue, and gold before that. I collect them too. haha

After years of requesting the Sephora catalog, I finally got it the mail last week. Same thing happened with Victoria’s Secret. I must be on Santa’s nice list this year. I have to say that i wasn’t very impressed with the catalog. I was hoping to see tons of new products inside but instead there was a large made-up dome on every other page.

fantastic kel glad you got one finally. Mmm agreed, LOTS of looks which was fab but also took up space for products 🙁

i love the girl with the silver and black eye shadow, red lips and nails, and hair waved with the bombshell. i think that’s going to be my staple holiday look this season!

I used to work at Ulta and would get jealous of how much cuter the Sephora ads were. Ulta’s were just too….safe.

I like most of the looks in the catalog, but I agree the skincare products seemed out of place. Maybe they’re doing a final push for the skincare challenge? Admittedly, when I opened the catalog I realized I already owned a lot of the products featured!!

I love the gold look and I love the green one. The rest don’t exactly feel holiday to me.

I HATE that they used MUFE Fuchsia along the lower lash line in the top picture, as the Sephora website says it’s not meant for eye use.

That said I love MUFE Aqua creams.

No kidding! It’s all ‘here’s a really tiny warning that says don’t use these colors on your eyes’ but we’re using those colors on eyes for the holiday look and here’s how to do the look!

Thanks to the Sephora F&F I now own 21 (Turquoise) , 12 (Golden Copper) and 22 (Emerald Green). They are sooo awesome as bases.

most of the looks are horrible, really naf…
that happens far too often with sephora T T

Was totally going to get a sephora gc just for the holiday mirror compact until I read this…

“Got a case of the hmm’s? Not anymore. The Sephora Gift Card solves your every gift-giving indecision. The card, which comes in a sleek, black, dual-mirrored compact embossed with the Sephora logo and wrapped in metallic red packaging, is available in denominations of $25 to $250 and can be redeemed in store, online, or through any of our catalogs.”

It’s the regular old black ones and only wrapped in red. How sad!

I love the hot pink and purple look and the “all is bright” look in the catalogue, but Sephora continues to piss me off with their deceitful advertising. I know that more products are used than the ones that are listed, and that there are more techniques involved than “apply turquoise cream up to crease,” etc. I went to Sephora on Thursday night to get them to do the all is bright look on me, and it looked NOTHING like the picture in the catalogue. Not enough hot pink under my eyes, and I’m convinced that they used foundation/concealer to blend out the hot pink cream, because otherwise you’d have a really harsh line. I also tried the hot pink and purple look last night, and I realized it was missing something. If you just apply hot pink to your upper lid, the color is too flat. I know they used something to highlight the middle of the eye, but I can’t figure out what. I also know that mufe aqua color #18 is a light lilac color, and there is NO FREAKING WAY that they just used that on the lower lid. (I’m talking about the image you have labeled as 14.) It just kind of irritates me that Sephora is never 100% honest about the products they used or the techniques they used. I know they’re trying to give us an abridged version that is consumer friendly, but it really irritates me. This is what I came up with, btw: I used mac pigment in violet and some other mufe pencil in a purple color, because mufe aqua cream #18 does NOT cut it on its own. /rant

ah true jenm I’d say most cosmetic companies use that trick 😛 I still think you look stunning in that pic 😀 VERY pretty! But Sephora isn’t the only one guilty of this, it’s alot of brands that do the same, looks are so elaborate in promo pics and I’ll proceed to buy the products used and NEVER get the same look! Seems impossible sometimes.

      🙁

      I can totally relate hun!

This irks me too. It’s not just Sephora either. I used to not know the difference but now that I do, I notice it a lot. The worst offenders are when a magazine has someone on a cover and they list the products used in the cover shot inside. It’s like..I find it hard to believe that the cover model is wearing only four things and they are all from Cover Girl, lol. With Sephora though if you add up all the products used in the “All is Bright” look it comes to around $250. So maybe they don’t want to top a certain dollar amount with the products used, or maybe they are just lazy or don’t expect us to notice? I don’t know but I understand how you feel- it’s annoying when you truly want to recreate the look and you know that’s not how it was done especially when you go and buy the products and then get disappointed.
