My Beauty Diary Bird’s Nest Review

Bird’s Nest soup is Chinese delicacy and it an expensive one to boot. Amoung a slew of supposed health benefits, Bird’s Nest is also highly sought after for its skin benefits. Supposedly it helps your skin to retain moisture, strengthens it, etc…

Don’t be confused, yes, Bird’s Nest is exactly that, a bird’s nest.

One of my favorite sheet masks brands, My Beauty Diary, recently introduced a Bird’s Nest mask and I quickly snatches up a few boxes. I’ve been using these masks for a few months now and they could prove to be my favorite from the brand.

Let’s have a look!

A mask that contains kappaphycus extracts which helps to increase the moisture level of your skin. It also contains hydrolzed rice protein and hydrolzed soy protein which is supposed to improve skin’s resilience and elasticity while brightening.

The Bird’s Nest Facial Mask is probably one of my favorite’s from the brand for a number of the reasons one of which is the excellent fit. The mask runs thinner than other sheet masks from My Beauty Diary and fit beautifully on my face. They adhere like a second skin, it’s just a really great fit. Not that other masks from the brand don’t fit but this is a thinner sheet and just fits really nicely against the skin.

The best part about the mask in my opinion is how it locks in moisture. I use these once or twice a week (once is plenty to be honest) and it keeps my dry skin feeling super charged with moisture throughout the week. I wake up after using one the night before and my skin just feels so incredibly hydrated. I also notice my skin has a more youthful glow where as normally I suffer from certain dullness. It also feels as if it fills my skin, gives it a certain plumpness, sounds weird I know but that’s kinda the effect. At first glance, after the mask is removed, I notice no difference in skin tone however the morning after my skin does appear noticeably brighter.

For those who have never used a sheet mask it’s simply a mask that’s soaked in essence aka lotion and fit to your face. You can wear it for 10 minutes or longer, heck, I sit around in mine for 50 minutes sometimes soaking up all the gorgeous essence in the mask. After you simply peel off the mask and throw it away! Normally your skin will feel moist after use so you can pat that into your skin.

Masks don’t normally have long term benefits but they are nice for getting your skin properly in order for a big night out or when your skin is being a bit on the dull side or when Winter is taking its toll.

Some masks I use several times a week where as others, like this one, I use only once or twice a week. Most folks use ’em once a week, maybe twice. It’s a great way to get your skin in good shape!

I’ve never seen long term results from masks which stinks however with constant use your skin will remain in excellent shape!

  • Those with dull skin in need of a pick me up!
  • Anyone wanting brighter, whiter skin (these will temporarily give a brighter, whiter effect).
  • Anyone who needs to get their skin in order quickly (big date? some important event? Use one an hour before you head out and your skin will truly look incredible).
  • Anyone who needs to retain more moisture (I notice the Bird’s Nest really keep my skin super hydrated).

  • Anyone who doesn’t like airmail fees or tracking down products online, etc…(My Beauty Diary is a Taiwanese brand and not easily located in local drugstores so online shopping is the way to go).

These are by far my favorite masks from My Beauty Diary, believe me, I tried alot. I love how they keep my skin amazingly soft and smooth. My skin just looks healthier and glowing after use and it seems to really work in my favor as the results do stick around a fair bit as long as I keep up with using the mask once a week! Truly if you have dull, dry skin, these are the Beauty Diary Masks for you!

Love!

Totally Muse Approved for purchase!

i love this brand! and am very fond of asian skincare. I am currently using hada labo and naruko. Question though, have you ever bought from sasa? And if so have u had issues with their services? I just bought from them and it took them a month just to process my order to begin with. (they were also switching warehouses) Just wondering if it was the warehouse switch or if you had issues with them too. Random, but it is the only place i can find with these masks for a decent price.

    • the Muse

hi mia I really like sasa but sometimes shipping is fast and sometimes it is slow sadly 🙁 It’s a hit and miss situation.

  • Cj

I always wanted to get these! I see a bunch of people using them on YouTube but I never knew what they were called or where to get online! I could never find them in stores lol mostly because I didn’t know what they were called 😀 So they are sheet masks, totally going to find em online now. My skin is usurally slightly dry but in the winter it gets way worse so these would definitely be a life saver 🙂 Masks in a little pack lol amazing 😀

    • the Muse

yup sheet masks cj ;-D You can get them at sasa.com or e-bay or imomoko.com (little pricey though from here) You’d be surprised how amazing they are for dry skin!

  • Emma

Wait… so do they go around finding birds nests or do they just grind up sticks and moss? I’m confused about how that helps your skin lol. PS I love your blog!

    • the Muse

ha emma no. They are actually very costly birds nest! ;-D They are made from saliva from small birds, sounds gross, but have some seriously long term health benefits according to the Chinese ;-D So not actually sticks and moss really, it’s kinda like egg drop soup when it’s wet…if that makes sense!

      Aw thanks Emma!

  • Carol-Patricia

I watched a video once on how the bird nests were collected and used, it was quite interesting.

I think I need to do yet another Beauty Diary Ebay search haha

  • kat

it is indeed bird’s nest. its made from the saliva of chinese sparrows. we believe they have medicinal properties for long health. you’re so brave to try it on! i wouldn’t mind putting it on my face, but my parents can’t convince me to have the soup

    • the Muse

the soap isn’t nearly as bad as you think kat. It’s actually quite tasty if you can get passed what it actually is ;D!

  • Ryou

    I normally don’t throw away sheet mask right after use, I’ll be damned if I waste all that essence without using it on my neck/decolletage first! XD;

    • the Muse

normally they are all dried up by the time I peel them off ryou ;-D I sit around in them an hour or so! but anything left I do the same I even rub some on my elbows ;D! hehe!

        • the Muse

carman I normally use a mask when I get home from work and I’m unwinding and when it’s time for bed I use face cream but it isn’t necessary as the mask leaves skin super hydrated after use.

  • Ruby

I haven’t tried this one, but the dish is delicious, just don’t think about what it is actually. This brand is easily found in the states especially if you live near or in a city with a chinatown. They are readily available in any chinatown beauty store, a bit of searching may be required, but I’ve recently seen them in the asian supermarket too. Beats airmail. You can definitely find this in NYC Chinatown. I’ve seen them in Phialdelphia Chinatown too, even New Jersey. So Northeast girls are in luck!

    • the Muse

it is indeed ruby. the texture of the soap kinda reminds me of hot and sour but it is tasty if you can wrap your head around forgetting what you are eating. Sadly I haven’t had much success locating new My Beauty Diary masks in New York only older releases. Like Bird’s nest I haven’t seen around 😛 Sucks. But def can find the normal range in shops.

  • Stephanie

This seems like something nice to try since the weather is getting colder. Where did you purchase yours from?

  • kenzie.

As stupid as I would look in it, I really want to try this one.

I don’t have any problems with dullness, but I do have dry skin, and not having to slather myself in heavy moisturizer would be AMAZING. I’ll have to order a box or five.[:

    • the Muse

kenzie try it, your dry skin will thank you! ;-D just run around the house with a knife and proceed to hum the theme song to Halloween. You’ll feel less stupid, promise ;-D

  • regina

i love this mask too! when my mom went over to taiwan she bought me a boat load of these and another bunch in hong kong^^

  • DeNote

Just wondering what the difference between essence, emulsion, cream, and moisturizer is? Sasa seems to use those words interchangeably for lotion.

  • Dawn

I tried the Bird’s nest mask after reading your review and it’s great!
Makes my skin feel so soft and hydrated..I like the light bird’s nest scent:)
Only tried the actual bird’s nest soup once, was intrigued over why they named it bird’s nest when its actually..bird’s spit. Haha, perhaps “bird’s spit soup” would scare everybody away:D

    • the Muse

dawn that def scares people away LMAO ;-D

I’m so glad you enjoyed the mask! It’s really a fab one!

  • Perilla

Haha everyone is so scared of bird’s nest. I’ve actually had it ever since I was little, and I like it very much. Of course, tiny me was a bit sad I was taking away homes of little birds, but of they already took it I might as well eat it right?;)

It’s very good and very expensive, and there are many fakes…

Just like BB CREAM. haha I love My Beauty Diary masks, I always get a bunch when I go to Chinatown. I also hit the Face Shop and buy a few more sheet masks because they’re basically a buck each.

  • Megan

Ah I agree. This is my favorite from their line as well. I heard great things about the wine mask, but that made my skin red and irritated. This is really good at soothing my skin and locking in the moisture, especially in the winter.

  • Jasmine

    Thanks for the great review!
This box was on offer at my country’s drugstore for $14.50 and I was sooo tempted to buy one. I’m still deciding between this or Naruko’s Raw Job’s Tears mask that people have been raving about as well.
+_+ and yeah, the new MBD masks have the thinner fiber that fits snugly on the face. So nice 🙂

  • Julie

My niece bought me a box of bird nest mask awhile back. The instruction is all in Chinese. After u let the mask sits on ur face, do u wash off ur face?
