Yay or Nay: Oprah Winfrey Hope in a Jar

It’s really rather sweet that Philosophy is honoring 25 years of Oprah by slapping her face on a jar of Hope in a Jar.

For a limited time you can purchase the limited edition jar for $38 to $105 depending on which size you want.

Oprah’s damn lucky because the woman hasn’t changed much since that photo was taken and her skin and face are still looking pretty damn youthful.

So what do you think of Oprah Winfrey’s Philosophy Hope in a Jar?

I gotta say nay simply because Oprah looks ALL kinds of pissed off to be on that jar. It looks like someone stole her lollipop and proceeded to snap a picture of her soon after.

New picture Philosophy. One of little girl Oprah grinning happily.

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. lol, love what you said about how she looks on the jar. My mom loves hope in a jar, but I dont think she’d want that. It looks a little odd.

    • the Muse

it is kinda weird having baby oprah staring at your from the box Maddie 🙂

Hope in a jar is probably the most basic moisturizer out there. Way overpriced for the crap ingredients that are in it. Plus it is jam packed with artificial lavender fragrance which can be quite irritating to people with sensitive skin. I don’t for one second believe that Oprah actually uses this. It’s always pissed me off that she hawks this product.

    • the Muse

I’ve never actually paid attention to the ingredients in it but I will say I don’t get lavender from it Jacob, just wet dog. ;-D

  • ichigobunnie

LOL. she DOES look pissed lol. I don’t kno why they didn’t find a better picture! Is the Hope In a Jar product itself good?

    • the Muse

for a long time I tried to say yes it was ichi but it isn’t. I really do not like it at all. It makes my skin feel greasy, it smells awful, and it just really isn’t that fab. Philosophy has other skincare that is far better!

  • Vanessa

Couldn’t care for it, really. However, if there was a really hot guy on it… I might give it a chance haha.

    BWHAHHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA~

Well she did help get them into the mainstream with one of her “Most Fav” shows.

true Jo! LOL ;-D hehe I was worried someone would get all upset that I was making fun of Oprah’s pic so had to put in a disclaimer for fun ;D

I got the 40% off coupon dealio 2 days ago so i ordered a 2oz jar because this has been working for me for so long, I like to keep it around. Well of course the release this packaging after my order is on its way. So nay for me but if I hadn’t – sure why not. 🙂 I actually like many of Oprah’s favorite things list items every year and this is no exception. Good post ty – and have a happy turkey day!

    • the Muse

happy t-day melissa ;-D to you and yours. Aw that stinks! just missed it. I imagine it’ll be collectible!

I had to laugh when I saw this. Poor Oprah looks so forlorn and with no “hope” !
Best of luck to Oprah on her retirement from her show.

LOL. I love the exfoliating properties of HIAJ, and it’s the only moisturizer I’ve found that clears, rather than clogs, my skin. I would buy an Oprah jar, but I always seem to acquire enough sample tubes that I rarely need to purchase.

The Oprah pic is sad though. To have happy, smiling childhood photos, there needs to be an adult who loves the child enough to record those blissful moments, but sadly, for Oprah, there was just deprivation. Still, it would be nice if someone would Photoshop this picture into something more pleasant, and remake her past.

I want a glittery JAR, not a glittery BOX that I’m just going to throw away as soon as I open it :0( I don’t get it…

  • tini

Hmm, Hope in a Jar pretty much sucks (totally agree, the scent is definitely wet dog) so they slap a picture of the richest women ever about to cry on it? How does a sad baby sell more product? Give her the loli! Put Oprah on the box driving her Bentley with the top down and a bag of money in the passenger seat laughing at us. That’s the Oprah I wanna be.

Well all I have to say is I received this for Christmas from my mom. A great big jar and like Oprah my childhood wasn’t the greatest, how ironic the gift and the giver. I love it and the smell is like that of a brand new babydoll. Whether it’s Hope in a Jar or Hope in a box or Hope in the Dark. It’s “Hope”and the picture on the box says it all. Go Oprah and anyone who can appreciate where we are coming from! Thanks Philosophy for making something that smells like the best memories of childhood for me.

  • Cristi

    I liked Johanna’s comment.

I think from a conceptual standpoint that this might have something to do with how she came from such a traumatic childhood but she really made something of her life; that there is hope for everyone.

Or maybe I’m overthinking this. But still.

On a lighter note, it really is astounding how she her face hasn’t changed too much. Lucky indeed! 😛

I do wonder if her nice skin truly is courtesy of the product, though. Hmm…

  • Dao

I was all, “Why did Oprah look so sad? Aw!” I bet with Oprah’s face on the box, this stuff is going to sell like crazy.

  • Gia

Oprah looks super angry. I wouldn’t want angry Oprah looking at me. Besides I HATE this product. I bought this after hearing all the raves about it and hated it. It was awesome at first but it dried up and became a weird texture after about a week and the smell was nasty!

    • the Muse

I tried to convince myself for so long I liked it gia but same here, just stinks and doesn’t work!

  • Jenny

I have no idea if HIAJ works, but it smells soooooo AWFUL. I don’t know how anyone can stand the stuff. When I tried it, I could smell it all day on my face, even after my makeup was on. Ack!
