Clarins Barocco Eye Colour Trio and Clarins Rouge Prodige Barocco Review, Swatches, Photos

Hey there.

Sorry for the the interrupted flow of service today. You might have experienced some lag, slowness, or a 503 or two this afternoon. My server has been kinda touch and go the last few hours but I think it’s back and in working order again. See? Hotlinking kills! MUA’ers are legendary for this…grrrr!

Anyway, I apologize for the problems and hopefully I’m back up and running smoothly.

Now, last of the Clarins Holiday Collection 2010 for you today. I’ve already reviewed the highlighter and the powder which I simply adored and now for the eye and lip products.

Check ’em!

A trio of beautifully baked eyeshadows in a gorgeous golden compact and a beautiful shade of festive red lipstick!

As you know from my prior two reviews the packaging is a gold theme with a black swirl design. This design followed through on all the pieces in the collection and makes for a very beautiful, elegant piece of makeup packaging.

The palette consists of three shades of baked eye shadow. This is pretty new for Clarins as I haven’t seen anything baked from them before, have you? The case houses a large mirror and a double ended sponge applicator which has a sponge tip liner applicator on one end and a sponge tip eyeshadow applicator on the other.

It includes three shades total which are a black matte you can use to line with or Clarins recommended using it on the outer v for a more mysterious effect. And two subtle shades of eyeshadow one of which is a black, gold marble affair which comes across slightly green tinged on my eyes and a radiant shimmering gold. The colors, outside of the black, are really stunning.

I didn’t find the shadows particularly pigmented but I wasn’t disappointed in the least since they create a subtle, yet elegant eye look. You can build up color oh so much to a point but the most part they remain very soft even though the black and black/gold colors look pigmented in the pan. The black itself makes a great liner and does indeed have a pretty pigmented formula when used in such a manner however as a shadow it doesn’t pack too much of a color pay off but again I’m not really bothered by this as you can still create a beautiful look none the less. They sport a typical baked formula and work best when applied with the sponge applicator as I noticed brushes didn’t pick up color nearly as well (as is the case with most baked shadows) plus there was a bit of fall out with the gold when a regular brush was used.

Clarins has a few looks you can create using the palette which you can see below. For my own look I simply used the gold as a color wash, followed up with the black/gold on my lid, and lined with the matte black.

This is a bit of a dual review as I’m also going to discuss the Clarins Rouge Prodige in Barocco with you. This is a festive, warmer shade of red that borders the realms of brick red. Formula wasn’t as nice as some of the other Rouge Prodige’s I’ve tried as it leaned towards being a bit more creamier in finish than I prefer in my lipstick but the color does really complete and finish the entire Barocco “look”. It’ll probably be one of those things you pick up because you want the entire collection, after all, it’s too pretty not to want it right?

It does deserve to be mentioned that you might wish to avoid the shadow trio if you aren’t a baked formula fan. They are indeed a traditional baked formula and if you aren’t keen on that perhaps it might end up a skip.

The lipstick is a nice to have item but I’ve tried better shades with better formula’s from Clarins. Regardless, I do love the way it looks on!

  • Anyone seeking a festive, mystery Holiday look (that black, gold shade lends a certain mystery to my eyes).
  • Anyone who loves Clarins LE items (understandable as I fall into the realm).
  • Anyone seeking an eyeshadow palette that has a touch of elegance in packaging and formula!

  • Anyone unwilling to dish out the big guns (Clarins isn’t cheap! The palette will set you back $40).
  • Those who aren’t lovers of baked eyeshadow.

Clarins Barocco Collection is possibly the most elegant and gorgeous I’ve come across this season. It simply screams gorgeous and will easily create a beautiful Holiday look without alot of fuss and fanfare. The palette is simple to use and even the most basic of makeup users can create a beautiful, well blended eye look without alot of work.

The collection is stunning and should appeal to fans of prestigious makeup.

The packaging is so beautiful and elegant! I don’t like baked shadows, but seeing that pretty marble … oh so pretty! As usual, no Clarins in my country 🙁 I wish I could at least swatch.

The shadows are gorgeous but I think I’ll spend the extra 5 bucks and get the Bobbi Brown Day to Night Eye Palette in Warm instead!

Love the baroque style packaging !
That middle colour eyeshadow is very unusual.
I can see the green on you – a lovely golden green.
    That look is fab.
The middle shade looks darker on your eyes than in the palette.

I have no Clarins products. Not sure if that is good or bad.
Well, it;s very good for my wallet 🙂

Fabulous red color lip stick! I am always on the hunt for a deeply pigmented, long lasting lip color.
