MAC False Lashes Mascara Review, Photos

After Opulash and after Haute and Naughty I thought for sure MAC was on a roll with the mascara releases.

I’m a strong believer that MAC does many a thing right in my makeup world but does NOT do mascara well at all. However, those past two releases were quite good and a step well above the normal range of mascara they offer. What did you think? Love them? Not so much?

Now with the release of MAC False Lashes Mascara on the horizon (December 26th it’ll be on counters) I was positive that indeed they’d successfully create another solid mascara.

Is it good?

Do you need it?

Check it out!

A new volumizing, curling mascara from MAC that promises thicker, dramatic lashes that resemble falsies!

I love the packaging on this. The wand cap reminds me of a chess piece and since I’m a chess geek I was all about it. I was surprised there wasn’t a ton of bells and whistles with the actual brush here since most falsie formulas end up hauling out the big guns and creating some super impressive wand to get that false lash look effect. This is a traditional bushy brush sans bells, sans whistles, plastic, spikes, etc…….Just really basic and to the point.

Formula is very, very, very lightweight so those with shorter, stubbier lashes that break easily will love this. Considering how light the formula is you’ll enjoy and take advantage of building easily without clumping and without having to worry about it weighting lashes down therefore resulting in droopy lashes sans curl.

It keeps curl nicely however it does need a helping hand from a lash curler to get the effect and as mentioned above the lighter formula allows the curl to stick around for fairly long as it isn’t left to weighting lashes down. Pigmentation is very rich so it gives lashes a nice black finish.

However….

False lashes? Get out of the city!

No way does this create a false lash look in my opinion. I didn’t feel like it added lenght at all nor did it have a good volumizing effects. It separates my lashes a little too far apart, giving a doll-like look and it does add a bit of lenght but no drama here. I didn’t feel like it had any wow behind it however it does build fairly well even after it dries down you can still easily go back and add a few layers without having to worry about a clumpy, spidery look. But if you’re seeking drama this isn’t it.

  • Anyone with short, stubby lashes (you’ll appreciate the lightweight formula and you’ll probably get decent lenght however nothing too dramatic).

  • Anyone who wants drama, lenght, volume, and that false lash look (I didn’t see any of the above).

My lashes are decently long and full already so perhaps that why I failed to see dramatic results so I do think that those with shorter lashes might see some results however nothing as promising as a fringe of crazy long lashes that mimic a falsie look. I like the lightweight formula as it’ll wear well in the Summer or for a more natural eye look however I do prefer more drama in my makeup life and think that maybe MAC False Lashes Mascara will end up in the Makeup Graveyard.

RIP.

Have you tried it?

What did you love or dislike about it?

Too bad it does not deliver as a lot of people seem to love the Prescriptives formula. Thanks to your reviews I will stay with what I know works, even though the packaging is gorgeous 🙂

    Have a great weekend 🙂

How does this compare to Opulash?

aww too bad for the lack of falsies effect. i have quite long lashes, but a little low on the volume. i’ve been searching for a very very very volumizing mascara for those times that i want to glam up. i’ve been using maybelline magnum volum express (aka colossal on the west) but it tends to clump sometimes.

    any suggestions muse? 🙂

When I saw the press release for this mascara I thought it was a mascara specifically made to wear with falsies. I have been known to put mascara on after applying false lashes to blend them with the real lashes…though it tends to ruin the falsies for future use.

Bummer that it is just a regular mascara, and a bad one at that apparently. Packaging is fab though.
