Musings of the Day: The “I’m too sick for makeup!” Edition

By Isabella Muse on December 14, 2010 57 Comments

in Musings of the Day

I don’t think there’s anything more annoying than sneezing when I have a lip full of gloss on. OMG so annoying. Lipstick, lipgloss, and a big old sneeze do not go together, it’s just messy to say the least and I end up having to re-do my entire lip look if I sneeze.

Not cool.

So Musings of the Day….

Do you wear makeup when you have a cold? Or even the flu? Some of us do not have the novelty of sitting home on the days we don’t feel well and we have to drag our stuffy noses to work with us…..so do you wear makeup on those days?

Jump!

Although I hate to admit it, I normally forgo makeup when I’m sick. For one thing sneezing with lipstick, lipgloss in place is bloody messy but also you have to take into consideration the fact that your nose and possibly lips are all dry, cracked, and flaky….

I feel like makeup always looks REALLY bad on when I’m sick. It’s almost as if my skin is suffering along with my body.

How about you?

Do you wear makeup when you’re ill?

I seriously go without a stitch of it on, not even concealer…!

Did I just admit that?

Do share!

Well, if I’m home or getting meds, no. If I still go to work, I have to, but it’s the bare minimum of face coverage and maybe eyeliner. But you’re right, when you are sick it’s like your skin is suffering too. I hate seeing foundation on my tissue when I go to blow my nose.

mmm ru me too plus foundation looks patchy as hell b/c my skin seems really dry when I’m sick particularly around my nose and upper lip as I normally get dry skin around my nose and chapped lips when I’m sick 🙁

I hear ya on this one. For my job, I can usually work remotely from any location, but if I have client meetings I need to be in my office. I skip a lot of my normal routine and go with some basic “perk me ups” to get me through the meetings and promptly remove everything when I get home. For me, this would be tinted moisturizer, mascara, and a cream highlighter. Those three things really turn my look from “walking dead” to “slightly under the weather”. The one thing that is an absolute no-no for me when I am sick is anything scented, like perfume. It really irritates my sinuses and lungs and makes me feel queasy.

omg me too danielle. I’m a big fan of tarts and such and I like burning them when I’m home or at my office for that matter but man it irritates me beyond belief when I’m ill so I def avoid that as well as any perfume or heavily fragranced items!

Oh God, I hate wearing lip gloss during the winter months because my hair always gets in my face and my scarf gets stuck to my lips, it’s just a huge mess.

So when I’m sick, I definitely do not wear makeup. When sick, I’m not even in the mood to eat or do anything besides curl up in bed and lie there like a slob, plus I dislike putting stuff on my face when I’m sick 🙁 I’d have to reapply things all day long with the way I sneeze and blow my nose, rofl.

Also, I tend to think that I look disgusting when I’m sick and it’s probably because I feel that way but putting makeup on during then would probably also make me feel like a monkey’s butt or something.

Nope, no makeup for me. I do makeup because it is so fun, not really out of necessity. When I am sick, any extra energy that I can save, I do. But, by the end of my cold, I am so excited to “play” again that I usually go buy myself a new makeup treat. Any excuse, lol.

This hits home today because I am sick! If I am at home (which I am today bc of a snow day), then I don’t wear a stich of makeup, but if I have to go to work or even out to the store to grab something, I’m at the point in life where there are some basics I feel need to be on my face to be seen in public. For me, its a quick fill in of the eyebrows, and touch of eyeliner and mascara. I think I still look awful, but can get away with that at least!

Unless I am very very ill and don’t plan on leaving the house at all, then no, but since I’m a mum of 3 young children, I hardly ever have that, so I do wear make up when I’m ill. I have a cold right now, started with a tummy bug 9 days ago, and I have worn make up ever single day since because I had to go out and there is no way on earth that I leave the house without the basics: mascara, foundation/powder, blush, lipstick/lipgloss on. 🙂

If I’m lucky enough to be able to hole up in bed, it’s just Burt’s Bees and/or Rosebud Salve. Otherwise, I’ll try to look presentable with the bare minimum: a little eyeliner, maybe some shadow, mascara, concealer, blush, lip balm. I’ll use my drugstore stash on sick days… No germs in my nice stuff!

Does the carmex on my nose count? If I can have to go out I wear only what I have to not to look dead. I’m the palest person and when sick I really look it. I’ve had complete strangers ask me if I’m about to pass out! Mineral makeup and blush is a must but that’s all.

I stick with some powder and concealer (if my skin isn’t too horribly flakey and gross), benefit’s lemon aid if my eyes arent watery just to brighten me up a bit, and lip balm because when I’m sick my lips are always chapped. Rosebud salve is typically my go to but lately I’ve been addicted to EOS lip balm. Have you tried it? I’m absolutely in LOVE with it. I keep telling everyone I know about it! lol

Makeup is more necessary when I’ m sick; it helps me look healthy!

The best product for lips, is intense red-toned lipstick, blotted. It keeps the lips coloured with a lively stain.

No Way. I do not leave the house without make up on if I can help it. Even if it’s just mascara. I think I’ve just become so much of a make up addict that I have to. I think that even just a little mascara and tinted moisturizer (or the Benefit foundation faker) help tremendously. However, if I’m running late for an important class (Say, my 4 hour anatomy lab) I will skip as much as I can get away with.

Haha when I’m ill and have to head out..putting allittle bit of makeup can actually be a small pick-me-up and make me feel “less sick”! 😀 psychologically I guess. When you think you look alittle better, you feel better!
I’ll steer away from lipsticks or glosses as it’ll come off soon enough when I blow my nose. I’ll just stick to eyeliner and lipbalm.
Warm cup of honey lemon, vitamin C and cold medicine are my best remedies for getting better..

I am not sure why but EVERYTIME when I try out new foundation for work and waiting to get some feedbacks from colleagues about how it looks on my skin, I get sick with cold/flu. All the running nose and teary eyes make my skin look blab despite having the foundation carefully applied. Luckily, I don’t change my foundations that often.

    Despite being a total make-up lover, I generally don’t wear any make-up daily. Working from home makes you lazy, you know. XD;

However, I NEVER EVER go without lip balm (in my case, Rosebud Salve). So I guess that’s the only make-up I wear when I’m sick?

I avoid all mirrors when I’m sick since I look like Gollum. I just wear my XXXL men’s hoodie that covers enough of my face when I have to pop into a Walgreens for more tissues. If I have to be presentable, then its tinted moisturizer, cheek+lip tint, lip balm, and eyelash curler.

I have to say I don’t wear makeup when i’m sick! I look like the walking dead when I have makeup on and i’m sick. The most I get is tinted moisturizer, and a cheek stain and some Blistex! Otherwise, if i’m really sick, its just rosebud salve for around my nose (blowing it too much hurts!), and loads of Blistex for my lips. I live for Blistex for the winter, and keep one in every jacket pocket! And a rosebud salve for every bag!

Not a good idea to wear make-up when you’re sick. You’re going to contaminate all your stuff and then when you put them on again, you can reinfect yourself. Like, the drs. recommend a new toothbrush after you’ve gotten over a cold or flu, the same goes for your make-up. 🙁

Its all about skin care when I’ve got a cold. Lip oil and lip balms are about it for colour. I’ve been using LA Roche posay anti redness serum, Eucerin day cream and its working wonders. My usual much loved olay 3 point moisturiser and serum are out as they are stinging a bit.
