Stila Holiday Lipglaze Gift Set 2010 Review, Swatches, Photos

I happen to be one for worshiping at the shrine of the Stila Holiday Lipglaze Gift Sets. I buy them almost every year for myself, for friends, for family, as stocking stuffers, for Secret Santa events, even for my mail girl!

It’s just such an incredible value at $25 plus the formula just rocks on a good Lipglaze.

However, this year, I was an ickle disappointed…

Jump!

A set of eight Stila Lipglazes in a gift set for $25.

Without a doubt this is one of the best lipgloss selections of the season in my opinion. The sizes are generous and the price is just right at $25 plus the variety of shades is awesome. Broken down you’re looking at $3 per gloss, fab deal eh?

The set the following shades includes:

  • Kitten
  • Grapefruit
  • Apricot
  • Guava
  • Blush
  • Merry Merry
  • Majesty
  • Seashell

Blush, Merry Merry, Majesty, and Seashell are all limited edition shades available exclusively in the set where as the other shades are popular, general catalog shades.

The shades all have different flavors which I thought was an incredible touch of awesome. Fruity, candy-ish, foody, you name it and each gloss sports some sort of great smell and taste.

Each Lipglaze is also bigger than ones included in sets released in past Holiday Collections! Lipglazes have a great formula in my opinion with a traditional tacky, sticky feel that’s thick and wears quite long with pretty nice buildable color pay off on most shades!

I didn’t like them because….

I felt the collection from 2009 and other collections had a better color finish. Nearly every shade in this collection had more of a milky, creamy finish which I personally do not favor and feel like most makeup users don’t either. At least five of the shades sported this formula and I feel like they’ll make their way into my makeup drawer never to be seen, heard from, or used again due to this.

Am I alone or did anyone feel the same way?

  • Anyone who likes a creamy, milky finish!
  • Anyone wanting more for less (this is a value at $3 per a gloss).
  • Anyone looking for a cool stocking stuffer or a gift in the range of $25!
  • Anyone wanting to add to their selection of glosses!

  • Anyone who is more in favor of a shimmering finish (the cream finish just isn’t doing it for me).
  • Anyone who isn’t keen on tacky, thick, sticky gloss (I prefer this formula and have come to terms with it since such a texture wears very long).

I’m kinda disappointed in this purchase and wish I hadn’t bothered. I actually went ahead and got it online without seeing it in person or swatches of it, if I had done prior research I imagine I would have avoided this year. Although, without a doubt, this is a wonderful deal and has some really fun perks, the creamy texture and finish of some of the glosses just left me cold.

Oh well, guess I can combine them with some other gloss so they won’t go to waste eh?

Did you haul this set?

Loves it?

Leaves it?

And for your Costco readers, Costco has a similar set (I didn’t see the color names, so I’m not sure) for $16 or $17.

These are similar to the ELF Hypershine glosses which i have 10 of! I dont know about if they are similar in finishes since I’ve never tried Stilla products but just judging from the pictures they look similar 🙂

I bought it too simply because the holidays aren’t the holidays without more stila lip glaze. It’s really a sickness to collect these.

Anyway, kitten AGAIN. Talk about overkill.

I didn’t get it this year. The only one that called my name was Merry Merry and I already have a ton of red glosses.
I also thought all the shades in the bottom pic would look basically the same on.

I thought about buying this lip glaze set but a lot of the colors looked really similar to me. I actually bought last year’s lip glaze set from the Stila website because they had a better variety of colors, IMO, even though the sizes are smaller. Not such a fan of this year’s set, although I love Stila lip glazes, in general.

hi beautyjunkie these are actually bigger than last year’s sizes hun. generally love lipglaze too but wasn’t a fan of the creams here 🙁

Aww. That’s sad that it sucks. I wanted to tell you I recently picked up the Stila Kitten Lipglaze with the Champagne Toast set when it was on sale for like $14 and I really like it. I was thinking about getting this set after xmas, but I’m not after the creamy finish for a glaze like this.

dd you can safely skip if you aren’t up for the cream finish! get some of the other sets they have in the vintage section, way betters 😀

  • Kristen

I got this set for myself awhile back. I like some of the colors but the stickyness is such a turn off that I rarely use them.. they tend to just sit in my makeup drawer collecting dust.

aw, it sucks that you don’t like these too much. I actually don’t mind the creamy finish. all the lip glazes I own came for free from Happy Hour deals (not that I own very many..) so now I have two Grapefruits, but they’re different colors. you wouldn’t happen to know if that’s normal, would you? 😛

I’m new to this blog and I loved it! Ok, back to makeup. I got this set as a stocking stuffer of sorts. I have several girl friends who are into make up, like me, so I bought a bunch of stuff like this to split among them. I kept a couple and gave away the rest, so value-wise it is a great purchase. However, I didn’t like the finishes either and this formula is beyond tacky. More like tinted Elmer’s glue, which gives it a lot of staying power but it feels heavy which I don’t like. Some of my friends loved it, so I guess it’s one of those products that people either love or hate. I’ll give it a “B”

    Awesome blog, Muse!

Hi Milka good to meet you! ;-D mmm I hated the finish too! I’ve come to terms with a sticky, tacky formula simply because such a formula wears REALLY long but I can totally relate to being irritated with the texture 😛

      aw thanks hun!
      xoxo!

I got the Costco set for Christmas and it is exactly the same except the color Blush is missing.
