Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara Review

Wimpy bottom lashes look out here comes Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara to save the day!

Debuting in February, Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara is a formula created exclusively to snag those tiny little lashes that make a habit of escaping us at every turn. The micro-mini brush is one of the smallest on the market and lays claim to the biggest job of all, capturing puny bottom lashes and adding volume and length!

Does it work?

Check it!

A specially formulated mascara for bottom lashes with a small brush for application!

I dunno about you but I always feel like I’m about to poke an eye out when I’m going for the bottom lash line and believe you me I’m clumsy enough to do it. Having a handy little mascara to attack bottom lashes is def a nice little extra to add to my beauty arsenal. Not many brands focus on the bottom lashes as hey, they assume you’ll use their mascara for your entire eye which is a safe assumption. However, if you have smaller, pesky little bottom lashes which give you drama whenever you apply your fav mascara on ’em, Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara is the trick for you.

Using regular mascara on smaller bottom lashes causes issues with smudging and the occasional raccoon eye however Clinique’s new mascara is specially formulated with a smaller brush that captures each lash easily, extends it, and does so without causing a mess.

The mascara sports some sort of interesting thermal active formula which allows for 24 hour wear without smudging or smearing and won’t flake off and even is waterproof in cold water. I can’t speak for the 24 hour wear but I noticed no smudging problems in an 8 hour work day and it removes easily by simply soaking a cotton pad with warm water, pressing gently, and allow the “fibers” to loosen and fall away.

You can multitask with it as well and use it to grab those irritating lashes in the inner corner of your top lash line. I always have a few little lashes in the inner corner that my mascara misses and I proceed to chase them around with a big old wand, Clinique’s wand is small enough to fit into that corner and snag those lashes pulling them up and out.

Obviously part of the appeal of the mascara would be the very tiny applicator which easily grabs those small lashes and brings them up and out!

Packaging is pretty wicked as this comes in a rather cute floral motif barrel. Absolutely adored the packaging!

You have to be super careful with this as it’s easy to over do your bottom lash line and proceed to go all Alexander DeLarge on your eyes! Seriously, be careful, don’t over do it.

  • Anyone who has a problem grabbing up the bottom lashes with their current mascara wand.
  • Those who want a mascara exclusively for their bottom row of lashes.
  • Anyone who wants a more doll like appearance (this gives a wider look to eyes creating an innocent, doll-like look).
  • Anyone who has issues grabbing inner corner, top lashes (this works a treat at snagging lashes you may have missed with your normal mascara).

  • Those who feel that their current mascara is perfectly fine at capturing lower lashes (if your current mascara does the trick, no need to indulge).

I liked this alot and will re-purchase in the future as it does exactly what its intended for and does it well. I personally have issues with my bottom lashes so this is the perfect solution for creating nice length on those hard to reach areas without poking an eye out in the process. The smaller applicator easily coats lashes, lengthens them, and creates a more fuller bottom lash look. At $10 it’s a budget friendly price as well so you can feel comfortable in indulging in a separate mascara to address your bottom lashes without dishing out a ton of cash for it! If you have shorter, stubbier lashes you can probably even use to pull them forward where ever your regular mascara might have missed an area.

Overall, a solid product that works well and creating a more polished lash look!

Likey!

It deserves a Muse Approval for purchase!

This will be available starting February at your local Clinique counters and online at www.Clinique.com

I so need this! I rarely wear mascara on my bottom lashes because I smudge it all over the place and have major issues. I will definitely have to try this out! It looks fabulous on you btw!

    • the Muse

thanks court ;-D thankfully I don’t have major issues with smudging but I always get a bit clumsy when I have a huge applicator near my bottom lash line and have been known to literally poke myself with the damn thing so this is a life saver ;D!

  • Eva

Omg, I’m sold! I need it mainly for the upper lash corners, but it sounds like an all-around winner!

    • the Muse

lash corners are deb a plus with this eva ;-D I have the same probs my mascara never grabs those little lashes in the inner corner ;D!

      • Eva

I just noticed that it’s Spring collection 😐 It’s gonna be perm, right? It’d be evil, if it was limited edition!

        • the Muse

eva no mention of LE status so I think we can say it’ll be around for a bit ;D

  • Mary the Muse Militant

    I don’t know what to think !
I’ll definitely check it out come February.
You have gorgeous dark long lashes anyhow so it’s just a bonus for you 🙂
    Thanks for the review.

Lol at the Clockwork Orange reference. This is great. I’m so tired of holding a mascara wand vertically to my lower lashes. That just results in clumpy lashes. Due to the applicator wand size of this one, I’d even use it for the inner corners of my upper lashes.

    • the Muse

ha cheers fey you were the first to mention the alex reference ;-D it’s perfect for inner upper lashes ;-D!

  • Alex

OMG!!! I hope this works as well on me! I never wear bottom lash mascara because of the smear factor! Why did it take so long for someone to come up with this….
    Thanks Muse

  • Kari

Oh wow, this looks cool. I’d buy it just for the wand! I hope it isn’t too overpriced when released here 😀

  • Paula

Hiya Musey! I’m curious how this compares to the tarte cosmetics “bottoms up”. I don’t do my bottom lashes very often, but I like the small brush for less chance of a mess than the full sized brush. 🙂

    • the Muse

hey paula I have bottoms up somewhere and I THINK I reviewed it. Formula wise Clinique’s feels lighter also I find the brush smaller so it does more intricate drawing out of each lash….kinda digging the smaller brush on Clinique’s rather than Tarte’s larger one ;D!

      • Paula

I thought you *might* have, but a quick search didn’t show up anything. I’m more curious about how the brushes compare. I may have to take my bottoms up to the Clinique counter to find out. LOL! 🙂

        • the Muse

I looked too, you’re right paula perhaps it was lost in the move to wordpress! this is WAY smaller than Tarte’s ;-D

  • p

are you wearing liner on the after pic? i usually use a regular liner…or one of the lash-scopic explosion brushes…but this one looks like it works muuuch better…i’m tempted to buy even though i definatly dont need it…

  • Kylie

$10 isn’t so bad… I’m tempted to purchase this, and once it runs out, I’ll just reuse the wand with my other (drugstore) mascaras. Of course, I’ll be cleaning this wand with every use. 😛

  • Variola Vera

geez, I am still pretty much capable to navigate my mascara wand wherever I want. tell me, do you have eyeliner on last photo or the little wand stains the waterline?
okay, for 10 dollars, its not bad but I doubt I will ever buy it, especially when it comes to insane prices of clinique cosmetics here in Croatia.

    • the Muse

hi variola yup I’m wearing eyeliner and shadow in the final photo hun!

  • Mykeshia

I remember when maybelline lash discovery. I liked that. I would love to give this one a try because the brush is shorter.

  • Darlene

    Hi there Muse:
Is it okay for someone over 50 to wear mascara on their lower lashes? I was at the Clinique counter yesterday and saw it, but wanted to check it out on-line before I got it.
    Thanks

  • Giselle

I’m soo late on this. But have you tried the Maybelline Lash Discovery? I’m wondering how this one compares to Maybelline’s.
