DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Review, Photos

Ok, let me it be know I have no issues with mineral oil but some folks do. It’s difficult finding a cleansing oil without mineral oil as one of the ingredients and the most commonly asked question I get about any cleansing oil I review is, “Does it contain mineral oil?”

Second most commonly asked question, “Any cheap cleansing oil recommendations that are easy to find in the US?” Although cleansing oil is a common part of the Asian beauty regime it’s not something that’s quite caught on in the US in my opinion. Hell, if it did, we’d all go to the drugstore and have our pick of any number of cleansing oils just like any good Asian woman can at their local drugstore in Japan, Korea, etc….it’s simply not the case in the US in my opinion. Some brands do have cleansing oil available however you probably didn’t even know they had one. MAC has one, surprised? I think we commonly associate cleansing oil with Shu Uemura and ouch expensive.

Want cheap?

Want readily available?

Want something to easily clean away makeup, even stubborn waterproof mascara?

Want it without mineral oil?

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is the ticket.

Made without mineral oil, allowing for a deep clean, and readily available for purchase plus an inexpensive price tag keeps this cleansing oil at the top of the awesome pile.

Scared of cleansing oil? Weird idea isn’t it? Taking oil and proceeding to rub it on your face…well it could prove a great idea for those of us with dry skin but even than it sounds a tad on the strange side…wouldn’t your face feel oily and greasy after use?

No way. Cleansing Oil rinses clean away and allows even the most stubborn, I’m sticking around until you die makeup to be removed easily!

Check it!

A cleansing oil to remove makeup!

So yes, indeed, essentially it is an oil. One of the great benefits of DHC’s version would be it’s inexpensive price tag and larger size. At near 7 oz and $25 this is a steal compared to Shu’s smaller $28 dollar 5 oz version. DHC is an Asian brand however it can easily be purchased from their website so when you run low you aren’t running around dealing with expensive airmail costs, etc..to get your fav cleansing oil!

I know a majority of you have already tried out cleansing oils and DHC’s version however for those of you who haven’t here’s how it works.

Simply pump two or three squirts of the oil into dry, clean hands. Rub it all over your face and massage on. Wet your face a bit to emulsify the oil (this is when the oil begins to turns white and milky), rub a bit more, and now rinse. Done! Makeup is completely removed and your face is refreshed and soft without feeling dry or tight. Even oily skin can use this without fear of feeling oily or greasy after use.

DHC’s Deep Cleansing Oil is extra thick formula wise and has a nice feel. It rinses clean away and removes makeup quickly and easily sans fuss and drama plus it’s free of mineral oil.

I’m not keen on the smell. Kinda plastic-y! But nothing too nasty!

  • Anyone who hasn’t yet tried cleansing oils (this is a great beginner oil to get a feel for how they work)!
  • Those with dry skin (I always feel like cleansing oils do considerably less damage and drama to my dry skin).
  • Those who want an inexpensive cleansing oil that’s easy to locate and purchase!
  • Those who want to remove makeup quickly and easily (this gets off even the most stubborn makeup).

  • Nothing not to like here!

This is a must have in my opinion for the value alone plus the ease of just purchasing it and getting it delivered without the drama of E-bay or tracking down Asian oils that can prove expensive oil due to airmail shipping, etc…..Simply head to www.dhccare.com pop one in your cart and go! Easy!

Good stuff!

Muse Approved for purchase!

My favorite is still Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil! I’m such a cleansing oil junkie… I always have a bottle of the Kose around but then I keep hunting around for new ones to try…

    • the Muse

Yellow one Audrey? I like it too ;-D really a big fan of the new Tiff one from shiseido as well. started off rough with it but ended up finding it rather fabulous!

  • Aimee Pan

I have the pink one for oily skin and it stings my eyes if it dribbles in there! Eeek. Does this one do the same?

    • the Muse

no not at all aimee but fair warning I have the pink too and no stinging…so maybe you’re sensitive hun?

  • Alicia

do you guys have fancl over at your country? if you do, you could try out their mild cleansing oil.

it is by far the best make up remover i have tried. but to be fair, i have yet to get my hands on the DHC ones.

one downside to the fancl one is that, all fancl products are preservative free, and they have a short shelf life once opened. the cleansing oil can shelf for 120days once you open it. so it’s kinda pricey in a way. 🙁

good is that it works like a charm, and has no smell whatsoever!

but now you’ve got me wanting this DHC one!!

    • the Muse

Nope Alicia. Fancl isn’t available in the US. It def is a great oil! and I love their LE packaging but hate the shelf life prob. but it’s a great pick for those with sensitive skin!!!!!!!!

        • the Muse

love love the ballet one ;-D just hauled it recently and adore it ;-D also have cinderella and sleeping beauty. when the oil runs out I just use some other oil to feel it up b/c the bottles are too sweet to toss out Alicia!

  • Tiffany C.

i got a sample of the dermalogica one and i like it but i really want to try out Bioderma’s Sensibio h2o

  • Annie

Am currently using the Lotree Ruby Clear Cleansing OIl and loving it to death!
    How does DHC compare?
    :3

    • the Muse

dhc’s version is thicker annie and doesn’t smell as nice as Lotree’s.

  • Rebecca

I love DHC’s cleansing oil. I haven’t tried any others but that was only because this was the first one I tried and I liked it a lot. I was afraid at first to use oil to clean my face because it just didn’t make sense to me, but I loved how it didn’t dry out or irritate my skin.

    • the Muse

rebecca def sounds weird at first ;-D but it’s a lifesaver isn’t it?

  • Chloe

Always wanted to try this stuff, but it is kinda pricey for something that you put on your face for only a minute. Did you try removing waterproof eye makeup with this?

    • the Muse

hey chloe isn’t that the point of most cleansers lol ;-D it only sticks around a sec hehe and than you rinse…! 🙂

I don’t remove eye makeup with cleansing oil, preferred using eye makeup remover but people normally do and have good success.

  • Kari

I looove cleansing oil. I have dry skin but even Pond’s cold cream is a wee bit too much for me. I love how cleansing oil has cold-cream-level cleansing powers but with a greasy feel that’s just right 😀 I use Muji’s which doesn’t have mineral oil either!

    • the Muse

ooo kari never tried muji’s! pic!? I freaking love muji products but so hard to find!

  • Lucy

I’ve tried samples of this product. I’ve never ordered it. I have lots of cleansers from Lancome and also Serious Skin Care.

  • aretha

oh no i think i might be the only one who doesnt like it 🙁 it dried out my skin, made my skin flaky and worst still it clogged my pores! 🙁 im back to using cleansing milk.

  • Karrie

Have you used the Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil by Origins?
It’s $18.50 for 6.7 oz and does not contain mineral oil.
I think it leaves behind more moisture than DHC.

    • the Muse

ordered it, have it sitting around, never tried it karrie *head desk* will have to get to using it 😀

  • JCz

Muse, I believe that the company kind of markets this as a makeup remover to be followed by a face cleanser. Is this how you use it, or do you use this on its own? Honestly, I’m lazy, and an additional step in my nighttime routine is 1 step too many – I’m lucky I manage to wash my face every night!
If you think it works just fine with no residue as a 1-step cleanse, then I’d be compelled to give it a try.

    • the Muse

i normally do one step with oil cleansers jcz. some folk do a pre-rinse with oil and proceed to follow up with a foaming face wash, etc…I don’t. It doesn’t leave residue behind in the least ;D

      • Lulu

I’ve been using the DHC cleansing oil for several years now – love it. I’ve got oily skin and it does a great job of removing all my makeup, including mascara. No greasy after feel. While they do market it as the first of a two part cleansing routine, I think the second part (soap) is optional. I’ve used other DHC products but the cleansing oil is a staple.

  • Ceriene

    Hey muse!

I think JCz mentioned it already, but I wanted to let you know that DHC states that you’re meant to follow this up with a foaming cleanser (or something along those lines) to get rid of the minimal residue this oil might leave. Unlike Shu’s (which can be used on it’s own), the DHC associate I spoke to at the counter says that their oil cleanser was formulated to dissolve make up, but only as the first step in the cleansing regime.

While personally I don’t feel it leaves a heavy residue, I always find it in my best interest to follow as the company recommends, since they know what the product is formulated for. >_< It does make things more of a hassle, but better safe than sorry!

    • the Muse

hi ceriene I never follow up with a cleanser after using an oil to be honest and never had a prob 😉 I don’t it’s unsafe to not follow up with one….

  • Pato

    Hi Muse!

DHC is my favorite cleansing oil at the moment! I tried Shu Uemura (the green, blue and pink one, because my mom loves Shu’s cleansing oil) and L’Occitane before, but IMO they’re not as good as DHC deep cleansing oil. Shu Uemura is actually quite good (choose the one that suits your skin type) but it’s freaking expensive, I used to share with my mom but now that I’m living bymyself, I have to bought it on my own, hahaha. DHC is not that cheap eaither but at least it’s still more affordable than Shu.

After I finish my 1st bottle of DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, I’ll try Muji. Hahaha

    • the Muse

pato good solid choice and def considerably cheaper than shu’s version ;D!!!!!!!

  • Jeni

I finally bought the DHC cleansing oil a few weeks ago. The price had kept me from buying it, but I’m glad I have it now! I actually like the smell of it too.

  • Dacia

I used this for YEARS – my college years to be exact. And I loved it. I remember it scared the **** out of my oily-skinned friends. But it was fabu. I actually had several things from their line. Vitamin C stuff, some matte action, the cleansing (was it ‘rice’?) powder. Loved every bit of it.

  • Lynnie

i’ve been using this oil cleanser for years but lately have been kinda of bored of it. loved everything about it except for its smell. i’ve read a couple of your reviews on other oil cleansers and have been wondering which one do you prefer out of the three: dhc deep cleansing oil, mac cleansing off oil, or the origins clean energy gentle cleansing oil?

for reference, i have oily combo acne prone skin and my reasons to use cleansing oil is to remove my sofina perfect uv lucent sun screen.
