Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush Review, Swatches, Photos

So far I haven’t had too much success with the Happy Booster Collection from Physicians Formula. The bronzer wasn’t my shade, too muddy and the transparent powder ended up being a tad too frosty for me….

But I’m not quite yet ready to give up so today I’m testing out Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush.

Good?

We’ll see!

A blush that sports a mood boosting formula!

As with the bronzer and powder this sports a violet scent and a mood boosting formula that’s supposed to mimic Endorphins to put you in a good mood. The violet scent is the key here I am guessing they thought the scent would act as an aromatherapy of sorts. I personally didn’t feel happy or happier after use but the idea is different and dare I say kinda cute. The scent of violet isn’t Guerlain’s traditional scent but leans towards being more rosy violet which can be a bit nauseating in some cases if you’re sensitive to fragrance in your product however it disappears quickly once applied.

Of course, part of its major appeal is the sweet heart design which runs rather deeply through the powder so one swipe won’t mess the design up. This is a dual compartment compact that houses the blush on top and a full size mirror and tray for the brush underneath.

The blush comes in two shades, Natural and Rose. I selected Rose since it seemed to pack the nicest punch of color and indeed, it does. This is a highly pigmented shade of rosy bright pink with reddish, fuchsia undertones. The shade won’t play nice with everyone but I liked it well enough. On me I get a really bright, bold dash of reddish pink on my cheeks. It can prove a bit clowny but blends out nicely and leaves behind a sizzling pop of color! I actually really like the results as it’s a just kissed or out of the cold finish on cheeks however some may find it’s a bit too overly done and in that case might wish to select the Natural color instead.

For application I find it’s best to swirl and tap. Swirling all around the powder yields the best results as sticking to one place will pick up too much of one color therefore creating a bit of a messy blend job!

You’re best results are using a brush of your own as the brush included is scratchy and sheds terribly.

The color proves gorgeous on my cheeks and will look amazing on medium, olive, or darker skin tones however really fair skin might want to go with the Natural color or those with redness in their cheeks will want to avoid the Rose shade altogether since it will give a clown-y finish.

Those sensitive to fragrance in their products might not play nice with the violet scent.

  • Anyone who likes popping shades of bolder blushes.
  • Anyone who wants a flush of sizzling reddish pink on cheeks.
  • Olive or darker skin tones will love the color payoff on this!

  • Those sensitive to fragrance in their facial products might not love the scent of the product.
  • Those with redness on their face or cheeks.
  • Super fair, creamy skin (this will give clown cheeks so best try the Natural finish for less vibrancy).

Overall, I loved this! I wasn’t impressed with the bronzer or face powder however the blush wins my hand! I loved how pigmented it was, enjoyed the beautiful heart design, and thought the overall product performed well for creating a pretty flush of color on my cheeks. Not everyone will love the Rose shade however the more lighter Natural color may prove a better choice.

Likey Lots.

Worth a pick up!

    looks promising!! (:
did you pick up the those PF Perfecting Pebbles (or whatever they were called haha) when you got that primer?

  • S

Thanks for your review, Muse, so glad you like it! I have both shades and like them very much. I’m light-medium/medium and with a light hand the Rose shade looks great. Natural is kind of an easy, no brainer look. Do you know if these are permanent?

    • the Muse

S I’m leaning towards saying yes they are perm as PF doesn’t list them as LE on their website so I think they might stick around a while hun ;-D I def have to try natural, curious how I’ll likey! It’s in my review pile! 😀

      • S

Thanks Muse! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Natural shade too!

  • mon

As always, thanks for the review! I’m really glad that you liked this product because the packaging and powder look so cute. I hope that Physician’s Formula and other ds brands bring out products with cuter or at least sleeker, simpler packaging like Japanese ds products. Too bad the included brush doesn’t work but at least it’s also cute. The brush also reminded me of a new Sephora brush called the Flower Kabuki that is also cute but questionable.

    • the Muse

hi mon it’s my pleasure! xoxoxo! ooo gotta go look up flower kabuki now ha 😀 Honestly I wish the same I will say that the DS has improved in the last two years or so! not by Eastern standards but def better than it was ;D

  • Kitty

Wow, that really does look very pigmented and bright! Thanks for the pics, Muse. Will you be doing a review on the Natural color as well, so that we can compare?

  • cait

i wish i had known there was a natural finish when I bought it….i’m SUPER pale and this color looked horrible on me…like i had some type of rash lol. i gave it to my mom though and she likes it a lot.

  • Sara

*grabby hand* I need this pretty hard. Too bad I can’t seem to find *any* new drugstore makeup displays anywhere! No Physician’s formula, no Wet n’ Wild, none of those new core collection MIlani baked eyeshadows….the drugstores around me are wastelands!

Thanks for reviewing this. 😀 Just looking at the photos makes me happy. 🙂

    • the Muse

aw sorry sara that stinks hun! Hope you guys get it soon! my pleasure :D!

  • p

my skin is pretty fair, but i bought this one after you reviewed the happy booster bronzer, and i have to say that as long as i don’t use too much it looks fine…no clown cheeks here =) buuut my skin is very young looking and can hold alot of color…or maybe i can just pull it off since its so fricken cold out and my cheeks are bright pink all the time anyways??

    • the Muse

awesome P! happy to hear it’s working so fab on you girl! ;-D ha you must look cute with bright pink cheeks! it’s def a youthful look ;-D!

  • Mina

Hi Muse!!! I know in terms of brand I cannot compare it but in terms of shade, is this comparable to benefit’s bella bamba? I just bought bella bamba so if this is similar in shade, I might skip this… I am loving the heart design though… sigh… im confused. hahaha…

  • cristina

I pick it up, its ok, that’s all I can’t say ok, maybe I am to dark will try it again maybe I used it wrong..

  • Krystin

wow the swatch really reminds me of the new box blush from benefit. how do u think it compares?

    • the Muse

not at all krystin ;-D BB is way more peachy this is straight up rosy pink ;D

  • molly

I bought the rose one after grey dell le gothique did a review on this product. The natural doesn’t seem like it would be good because there isn’t a lot of pigmentaton to it.. I’m fair with red undertones, and I LOVE this. I’m curious about the bronzer though… think I may pick it up for the heck of it … Idk yet.

    • the Muse

molly awesome to hear it works even with redder undertones ;D! I didn’t like the bronzer much sadly 🙁

  • Jenny

awesome! i would pick this up but i already ordered the stila blush with the hearts 🙂 can’t wait to get it

  • Mary the Muse Militant

Lovely bright and bold cheeks you have !
I had a look on their website and there is no image available for the Natural colour.
Just curious as to what shade it is.
Gorgeous stuff on their site too.

  • Ashley

    Oh Muse, I’m confused!
You said, “The scent of violet isn’t Guerlain’s traditional scent but leans towards being more rosy violet which can be a bit nauseating in some cases if you’re sensitive to fragrance in your product however it disappears quickly once applied.”

You must have Guerlain on your mind cause I thought I was supposed to be reading a Physicians Formula review!

    • the Muse

hey ashley I don’t find Guerlain’s version nauseating at all, quite pleasant, guess it depends on the person 🙂 however PF’s version I find a bit too much. Hope this clears up your confusion!?

  • Mel

LOVE LOVE LOVE this blush! It’s my new staple! Color is pigmented and can be a little intense, but it stays put all day!

  • Nessa

I picked this up the other day and haven’t used it yet. It’s just so pretty! But I have a ton of other PF products to use from my CVS beauty clearance haul.
I didn’t see the Natural when I picked this up. I think I should have got that one. I fear that I have a heavy hand when applying blushes :O

    • the Muse

hey nessa just tap it on gently ;-D you’ll get a nice layer of pink on your cheeks yay!

  • Lors

Love that pink! What are you wearing on your lips? I like that pink shade too! 🙂

  • BeautyMaven

Isn’t this amazing!? I LOVE my blush, I have it in Natural! I just feel so fancy using it for some reason, hahaha, so I”ve moved it into my “daily” arsenal since it makes me so happy!! I’m thinking of getting another just in case, lol– have you heard if this is a limited time product or not?

    • the Muse

beautymaven PF didn’t mention it being LE on the site, I have a feeling it’ll be around for a full launch in the general catalog soon! but don’t quote me ;D!

  • Tukta

I am wondering this blush is look the same with Stila Make Me Blush

Are they the same in color and formula?

and could you help me, which website I can order this online please?

I want to order as a gift for my BFF

Thanks and look forward to hear from you

    • the Muse

tukta I haven’t seen these available for purchase online yet but perhaps Ulta will get ’em soon but you can get them at the drugstore. They will be perm so if you can’t find them, give it a few weeks and you’ll prob see them pop up on the rack. This isn’t anything like Stila Make Me Blush as they are both different colors completely hun. Hope this helps!

  • HautePJ

This looks great on you! I know they aren’t at all alike, but I can’t decide if I should buy this, the Stila Make Me Blush or Benefit Bella Bamba. What would you pick for darker skin (NC50)? Every time I test the Bella Bamba on my hand I feel like there is too much glitter!

    • the Muse

I’m not sure pj. I really am not familiar with mac’s color foundations…I don’t even know my own shade from them!? eep.

    • the Muse

Hi Cream Physicians Formula isn’t sold in Singapore to my knowledge hun try E-bay?

  • Kim

How would this compare to BB pale pink powder? Great color on my 50+ light skin, but have hit pan and need to replace. Thanks!

    • the Muse

not sure kim I don’t have Bobbi Brown’s Pale Pink Powder tbh 🙁 sorry!?

  • kris

way cute. i picked a couple more as gifts for valentines day. i got natural and rose, they are easy more sheer blushes, that are buildable, which is great for me, i am not the best at applying blush 🙂

  • Susana Seminario

hey, i want to buy that rubor bur y live in Peru, i saw in a magazine and i loe it !… maybe you know how can i buy for internet or maybe one person can send me for a mail and i can give the money for a bank 🙂 please talk with me

  • pritha

Hi Muse… I am from India (Down south) with dusky complexion and yellow undertone. I am relatively new to this makeup gala and I love your reviews a lot!. Please advice me on the blush shade suitable for me in the Physicians Formula Mood BoostER Line. Natural or Pink or Rose???…i just love a sutler sheer color on my cheeks…. not the pop up looks!

    • the Muse

hi pritha! Thanks so much so glad you’re enjoying Musings! I’m really not sure what should would be suitable for you having never seen you before. It’s difficult to recommend a shade having never seen you before!

  • Sarah

Love your website… you just saved me $12 – I would have HATED this on my super pale skin! Thank you!!
