Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup Review, Swatches, Photos
If you hit up your drugstore for Spring makeup you’ll have some rather refreshing options in the foundation department. Both Almay and Revlon have new hydrating mineral foundation available. My recent test out with Almay Wake Up Hydrating Makeup ended rather badly but I still wanted to test our the Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup as well out of curiosity.
The idea behind the powders is that they give a burst of cool, refreshing finish. These are ideal placements for Spring considering your face is probably dry and suffering from the Winter blues and something cool, refreshing, and hydrating as a base would be a fab little pick. Agreed?
Sadly, Almay’s version proceeded to oxidize right on contact and offered very little in the way of coverage. Let’s check out Revlon and see if they have a better product on their hands!
Hydrating mineral foundation with a refreshing finish.
This type of product isn’t particularly new since both Awake, MAC, and even Prescriptives have produced similar products in our makeup pasts. It does however remain new to the drugstore scene.
The idea behind it, without a doubt, is a good one however in some cases it doesn’t particularly work. The formula is a dense powder which you can buff or swipe onto your face. Upon contact with your skin you’ll notice a cooling sensation almost as if you wet your brush. The powder has a hydrating finish however not overly wet or saturated but merely a damp, cooling feeling!
The packaging is rather super as it has a brush which slides gracefully into the lid and slides out when needed. You can swivel it up and apply easily by stroking across your face. I will say that Revlon’s version has considerably more pigment than Almay’s version and also has less of a cooling sensation. Where as Almay’s version simply sunk into the skin offering zero coverage you’ll notice that Revlon actually leaves behind a fair bit of color pay off to even out your complexion and “wake” it up.
I love the creamy feel of the product however I do miss the cooling sensation that Almay’s version had way more of! I purchased a medium shade which was way too beige and had a bit of subtle sparkle to it, nothing dramatic but the sparkle is there.
The idea and concept of the makeup is fabulous however it offers very little coverage. If you already have smooth, nearly perfect skin this will work a treat at easing dullness, brightening skin, and offering lightweight coverage for a more flawless makeup canvas. However, if you have problem skin you probably will find that this covers very little.
Sadly, it does oxidize rather quickly which isn’t too surprising. The hydrating feel is fabulous on dry skin but it’s prone to disappear within an hour or less of application!

- Anyone with good, decent skin that doesn’t require a ton of foundation.
- Those seeking long wearing coverage.
- Those in need of foundation to not only brighten but conceal problem skin areas.
Without a doubt the formula is fun to use and will feel wonderful on all skin types particularly those with dry skin as it applies smoothly even though it’s a powder product but sadly the lack of wear time and light coverage is a fault that can’t be fixed. I liked it well enough and might have even found a daily use for it, if, at the least, I could have gotten three or four hours of wear out of it but sadly on my skin it disappears rather quickly.
