Rimmel Glam Eyes Quad Eyeshadow Review, Swatches, Photos

Rimmel Spring brings about some new shadow quads to play with! I recently purchased the Rimmel Glam Eyes Quad in Smokey Brun which supposedly is a revamp of a palette already available however I never tried the old palette plus I do think, just looking at the products, that this version versus the old version has a newer formula but don’t quote me here.

This is a fairly inexpensive budget pick for creating an easy smoky eye look in seconds. The simplicity of application, vevety formula of the shadows, and price make it a rather great beauty budget pick.

Shall we peep it?

An eyeshadow palette featuring four shades of shadows to create a single smoked out eye look!

First off I will say I actually like the packaging. It’s simple, to the point, and easy to travel with and store. The simple black packaging makes up for the lack of fanfare, sparkly bits, and just general prettiness by being more practical, travel friendly and easy to store plus you aren’t going to be all “OMG, I can’t use it because it’s too pretty!”

Formula is awesome. At first the velvety look of the shadows had me skeptical as I was worried they would have a frosty finish but they apply dreamy! The texture has a soft, silky feel that glides onto eyes and leaves behind quite a nice color pay off. You are definitely looking at a quality formula here that will apply easily and blend out without fuss or drama. Mind you, pigmentation isn’t in the realms of MAC and you’re not looking at boldness here however you’ll be more than pleased if you embrace a more natural finish.

The quad I selected, Smoky Brun, contains four shades that create an easy smoky brown look. Instructions on the back of the palette make for an easy application technique so you can leave your eyeshadow application degree at home as it’s a matter for a few steps to get a stunning eye look.

Smoky Brun features a creamy beige shade, a taupe beige, a chocolate brown, and a lighter bronz-y brown. All the shades can easily be used on their own or together.

The overall look you can create is a more sophisticated, work friendly smoked out eye that’s quite pretty and easy to do!

Nothing bad here!

  • Anyone seeking a professional look for the office at a budget price!
  • Anyone who wants a budget friendly eye quad with good color pay off and an easy formula to work with.
  • Ladies with lovely brown eyes (Smoky Brun is an ideal palette for brown eyes).
  • Anyone with oily lids (the silky smooth formula will adhere to oily lids well).

  • Those who love bolder shades of shadow from brands such as MAC (this has great pigmentation but comes across more subtly).

If you’re looking for a classy eyeshadow quad and love a more natural, nude look, Rimmel Glam Eye Quad Eyeshadows should do you well as the price and formula are an excellent choice for the no nonsense girl who wants a polished look but doesn’t want alot of drama surrounding the application of it. I thought the palette was incredibly easy to use, had a great price tag at a little over $5 bucks, and a really nice formula. Count me surprised as I was bracing for the worst here. As I mentioned I can’t really compare it the original Smoky Brun Palette but I do think that this is possibly a better quality of shadow than the older ones.

All in all a great budget pick that makes shadow application an easy breezy experience in the AM! If nudes aren’t your thing there are also a purples, greens, and blue quads to choose from!

izzy there isn’t really a comparison there hun the formulas are just so vastly different you can prob even see it in the photos.

you should review the black radiance line! this shadow quad reminded me of theirs (drugstore brand, usually found in meijer). they’re geared toward black/darker skinned women, but the shadows are the best quality I’ve ever seen from drugstore.

  • S

Thanks for the review, I really like this neutral quad. How would you compare this to Wet n Wild’s Color Icon shadows?

    • Kinz

I like wnw singles, probably best of everything Ive tried. These are a close second though. I just notice these don’t wear for quite as long. But still last a good maybe 6 hrs. wnw with a primer lasts me like 2 days though hahaha. I just wish wnw had as much selection as rimmel. And I wish their trios and big palettes were as soft and silky as their singles. basically I wish wnw had a make-up baby with rimmel hahahahaha

Must, must, must get this…. Musey, how are you? Long time, no talk to…been lurking though…

  • Mara

Ooh, looks promising. I’m always on the lookout for a good drugstore makeup fix. By the way, have you ever tried the Physician’s Formula Matte Collection Quad eye shadows? Rarely do I find good matte shades, especially drugstore ones and saw some rave reviews on Makeupalley. I’d love to hear what you think, though.

For S: imho, these don’t hold a candle to the WnW shadows!

I’m also one who had both the original Smoky Brun quad, and then bought this new one (because … ???). The old one, again, IMHO, is way better. Just my $0.02.

    • S

Thanks LipstickChick! I’ve got some single Color Icons and a couple trios and they’re fantastic. Guess I’ll stick with them 🙂

  • Wendy A :)

I have the Dior 5-colour eyeshadow in 440 sunset cafe and this looks exactly the same doooohhhhh!!!!!
I’ll try it when I run out.
    Thanks muse-hugs from Mexico.

I’m so tempted to getting these Rimmel palette, but not able to find in my local CVS store. I looked at several CVS stores that stock Rimmel brand but it wasn’t available. Hopefully I get my hands on these soon.

  • reeny

hey muse, this is such a pretty look. just curious, what blush r u wearing ? it looks so soft and subtle, love it!

    • the Muse

oh reeny that’s from Rain Cosmetics, forgot the name, tickled? it’s a soft apricot very nice ;D

  • Tigress

Rimmel eyeshadows are really nice and super affordable. I have quite a few trios and quads – most of which I got on sale at Walgreen’s! They last all through a work shift with a primer and have a lot of great colors.

  • jac-kie

i’ve tried the old formula before [the one with the colours in 4 little squares] in a bluey shade & unfortunately it was a bit yucky =( crease city! slipping & sliding everywhere & i even used a primer – not the best primer but i use it with my other shadows & they didn’t do this.

    • the Muse

aw sorry jackie 😛 I didn’t have a prob with the new version thankfully!

  • Kylie

The quad looks a bit frosty, but is it sparkley? I try to stick with matte or semi-matte eyeshadows… Just curious so I know whether to get this quad or not. 😛

    • the Muse

I only tried smokey brun so far kylie and it was a velvet finish sans sparkle. Hope this helps! 😉 you didn’t say which quad you are asking about, there are over 15 pictured ;-D just refered to “this quad”…which one!? 🙂

      • Kylie

Hahaha, sorry, I guess I meant this Smokey Brun quad, though if you happen to know whether the other quads are sparkley, it would be helpful. But at least now I know I can get the Smokey Brun since it doesn’t have sparkle and isn’t too frosty. 😛

        • the Muse

oh jeez kylie sorry. *smacks head* I thought your comment was on the post I just did! *head desk* LOL sorry hun! this one isn’t sparkly to me, more velvet-y. Some of the others appear sparkly in their photos however I only tried this and sun safari both of which lacked shimmer ;-D and def not frosty ;-D

          • Kylie

No, no, it’s definitely my fault. I wasn’t clear enough. 😛 Sorry! *hugs* I WAS thinking about commenting on your latest post too. Hehehe… Thanks so much! 😀

          • the Muse

no it’s all my fault kylie I’m totally knackered ;-D and thought you had posted on the new post. doh! ;-D my pleasure! If I grab anymore of these I’ll let you know if they come across sparkly ;D!

    • Just me

They look frostier in the palettes than they appear on the eye. I have the palette in 001 Smokey Noir (greys to black) and one of the darker shades looks like it has multi-color frost in the palette, but is just velvet to pearl on the eye. I’m old enough that I have to avoid really shimmery shadows and these are fine on my eyes.

Also, WalMart has these for $3.97 –a real steal!

  • melissa

I love the colors that I purchased…light purple to dark black…however everytime I use the shadows my eyes burn and turn red 🙁 Love the colors and how smooth they go on, just can’t deal with the reaction my eyes have to it.
