Stila Dramatic Eye Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

I purchased the Stila Dramatic Eye Palette during the Stila Online Warehouse several weeks ago. Sadly, it’s now gone from the site however I have a funny feeling during their next sale it’ll pop up again however if you simply can’t wait to try it after my review I do suggest E-bay as I’ve seen a few valid sellers that have it available for as little as $10!

The Dramatic Eye Palette is pretty much the same design as the $10 IT Girl Palette released a few months ago. It contains three shadows and the set I purchase also included a brush and eyeliner pencil. I can’t recall what I paid for the entire set but it was in the realms of $14 I think!?

Here’s a brief review and swatches if and when it pops back up at Stila.

The It Girl Palette definitely started the revolution for these style palettes which in turn led to the introduction of the Travel Girl Palettes. Personally they should have released more of these as the quality appears way better than the Travel Girl but of course, packaging isn’t nearly as cute.

This comes in a slim line hard plastic black shell case. It’s compact, has the Stila name printed on it, and for the most part is basic and easy to store and travel with. I’d prefer the Stila Girls like any other packaging junkie but I don’t mind this compact in the least in all honesty.

Inside you’ll find three shadows that all have a very smooth, velvety formula a la Stila’s original formula although one shade in particularly stands out above the rest texture wise which of course, would be Kitten. Yes, I know, tired of Kitten aren’t you? It is indeed in this palette….you also get two other shades in contrasting shades of a blush-ish royal purple and a grayish lilac. These two shades go together brilliantly however Kitten’s introduction with the two may throw a few people for a curve ball and leave them wondering the best way to combine all three.

You also get a Stila Kajal Eye Liner in a mini size in the shade Smoky Quartz. Formula is buttery smooth and applies sans tugging and smudges out beautifully well. It wears very well on my eyes and quite long as well without any fuss or drama.

And finally a Stila Brush 4 was included which is a precise liner brush however the fuller bristles remind me of a lip brush!

Definitely felt the entire kit was mismatched so if and when it does come back online for purchase be aware as the liner doesn’t feel like it goes with the palette, the included liner brush seems an odd choice to include with the palette (maybe a shadow brush would have been better?), and the shades of the palette are indeed a bit on the mismatched side of things!

• Anyone who likes quality with a cheaper price tag (quality is definitely here on all three pieces in the set).
• Anyone who likes a smoky purple look (with good skill you can create a lovely smoked out look).

• Beginners may find it difficult to put together a look with these items (I know I did and don’t considered myself a makeup n00b).
• Anyone who can’t wear darker shades (Kitten is the extent to the lighter shades included everything else could bring out those dark circles under your eyes).

I threw it in my cart on a whim due to the price tag however I’ll probably make very little use out of the palette or the eyeliner brush in all honesty. I’ll perhaps use Kitten but I already have about 100 pots that I don’t really need more. I guess it was just a spontaneous purchase on my part.

Those who have never tried the brand might wish to indulge as it’s a good selection at the price or even those who like a more smoky look. Sadly, I thought the shades would prove a bit more flattering….but not the case.

Good deals sometimes aren’t always that good.
