Clean & Clear Morning Burst Skin Brightening Facial Cleanser Review

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Skin Brightening Facial Cleanser is a brand new cleanser from Clean & Clear that promises to revive your skin and brighten it with the cool fresh scent of lemons and papaya.

Anyone ever cheap up their morning skincare regime in the shower? I buy tons of expensive product for removing my makeup in the PM but when I wash my face in the AM I normally embrace the inexpensive route. It’s such unusual behavior! I dunno why I do it. I guess my mentality is I don’t have any makeup on and I’m in the shower washing my face so I don’t really need some costly cleanser to do the deed.

Yeah, well, weird confession of the moment.

I indulged in this particularly cleanser since I normally like the Morning Burst line anyway.

Let’s see how it worked out!

A cleanser to brighten your face and wake it up!

I think the first thing that grabbed me on this was the smell. At first sniff it has a sweet lemon candy-like smell. I think it’s the papayas that gives it the sweet edge and if I’m honest with myself I’d confess that the scent was the reason I purchased it. Some folks love scented skincare, others don’t. I happen to love it.

If you’re on a budget this is a decent one to use along with your Clarisonic Brush as it seemed to lather nicely, didn’t overly strip my skin, and gave it a nice tingling sensation to wake my skin up in the morning! Did it whiten and brighten? Yes, it did however the results aren’t lasting sadly but my dull skin appreciated how it made it look a little tired and gloomy after use.

The formula contains caffeine but I’m not sure of the point. Caffeine is excellent for puffy eyes but why in a cleanser?

In the shower it had great results however when I tried it outside the shower sans my Clarisonic I felt like it made my skin somewhat dry and tight but this isn’t any surprise as most drugstore cleansers produce the same feeling. A little moisturizer helps ease the issue and thankfully I didn’t have flakiness after use.

It has those beads in the formula which I’m not quite a fan of but they aren’t too annoying and dissolve pretty quickly!

The scent is gorgeous in the shower but outside the shower I felt like it had a dish detergent kinda thing going on.

  • Those on a beauty budget looking for a nice cleanser to use in the AM.
  • Those who want a cheaper cleanser for use with their Clarisonic.
  • Those who have dull skin and want to brighten it and make it look a little less tired (this helped revive my skin but the results aren’t lasting).
  • Those who need to wake their skin up in the AM (the clean, sweet scent and cool tingle wakes skin up).

  • Those with sensitive skin (the scent and possibly the cooling tingle from the product might prove too much if you’re sensitive).
  • Those with already dry skin (I have dry skin but it didn’t bother me too much).
  • Those sensitive to fragrance in their skincare (this has a strong scent).
  • Those wanting a lasting brightening effect (I felt my skin was more vibrant after use but it was fleeting).

Overall, I enjoyed Clean & Clear Morning Burst Skin Brightening Facial Cleanser. It made my skin feel squeaky clean without drying it out and I thought it made a fabulous little cleanser for shower AM use and felt it paired up pretty nicely with my Clarisonic. I’ll buy it again once I run out.

I won’t Muse Approve it because it’s not entirely perfect but it’s worth a haul in my opinion!

Nice one!

Anyone try it?

Do share!

These cleansers feel so nice, but they’re too drying for me. I like cream and oil cleansers. Ponds, DHC, that sort of thing.

  • Jessie

I love this!! It works really well on my skin and it’s extremely refreshing. Except, sometimes it can dry it out my skin a little too.

  • Lorena

I’m so glad you reviewed this! After you mentioned the C&C Morning Burst body wash I went out and bought the Mango Papaya sent and LOVE it! (Totally see what you were talking about in reference to the beads though =/) I’ve been using the original Morning Burst on and off since I was like 19. I LOVE it. I had to stop using it for a little while though when my face got really angry and retaliated after I used the original BE foundation, but I’ve been on the Acne regimen religiously and my face cleared up so I started using Morning Burst again in the shower. I’m like you, I use the Acne cleanser at night because it’s better at getting all of my makeup off and in the mornings, I use the Morning Burst. I REALLY want to try the brightening version and am glad to hear that it works. My skin needs all the help it can get!

yay happy to hear it lorena ;-D def try the pom, it smells so good! yay…sigh damn beads! so far so good here. I liked it, good inexpensive cleanser for the AM 🙂

  • Cj

Less lethal beads yay! Lol 😛 I wonder why they didn’t use these in the body wash too

      • Cj

Hey Muse! I’ve been on a huge drugstore kick lately and I decided to try going the cheap route in the morning too. So I bought this a few days ago and I love it! It smells AMAZING! and it worked great with my Clarisonic just like you said 🙂

I also picked up 2 of the matching body washes, I was really apprehensive because I remembered what you said about the beads of death lol but I don’t have any problem with them at all! I use one of those mesh shower sponges and I don’t even feel the beads.

        • the Muse

yayyyyyyy awesome cj ;-D ha…I always go cheap in the AM, no idea my mentality ;-D I really loved the smell too and it does indeed work great with the clarisonic. I whip it out in the shower and go to down. When I come out my face feels tingly and refreshed ;-D I’m glad you didn’t experience woe with the miserable beads lol! I really love the smell of those shower gels but damn those beads to HELL! ;-D!

          • Cj

It really is a smart idea, you not only save your more costly products, but most high end skincare specifically don’t add any kinda fragrances, So it’s refreshing to wake up and use this. They might of changed the formula of the shower gels and made the beads smaller, I don’t even realize them when I use it.

          • the Muse

i totally dislike that about skincare CJ, I prefer fragrance ;-D this is nice and tart with a slight sweet, fruity thing going ;-D wish more brands would embrace scented product. You’re lucky, mine are deathly ;D!

  • Brooke

I’ve been using it in the mornings for a few weeks now. I saw it at Wally World and the ‘glow’ feature immediately reeled me in. I have sensitive skin and it hasn’t really seemed to bother me much (knock on wood). I also LOVE the scent. Like you said, I don’t really see a ‘glowing’ effect that lasts, however, I mix it with my Purpose cleanser, which I love and have been using for a while, so that may sway the results, too. In the end, it’s a nice scent to wake up to in the morning 🙂

    • the Muse

hey brooke good news ;-D Happy to hear it does indeed work a ok on sensitive skin. I felt a little tingle action and was worried it might be too much for sensitive skin ;-D

I like it so far. It’s cheap and does a good morning clean up job!

  • Mary the Muse Militant

I’d shy away from this due to very dry skin which also is sensitive when it has it’s moments.

  • Andrea

I’m just like you! Inexpensive cleansers in the morning & all my expensive cleansers come out at night to remove my makeup! I just feel like there’s nothing on my face that should be hard to remove in the mornings.. so the inexpensive route is the way to go!

I’m excited to try this one out, thanks for the review! 🙂

  • Nayah

Muse! I’m definitely the same when it comes to going the cheap or, what I like the call, the natural route in the mornings! I’ve actually read somewhere that you really only need to use a cleanser in the PM…to wash off makeup and grime and oil you’ve accumulated throughout the day! Assuming that you have a very good PM regimen, your skin shouldn’t need any chemicals in the morning…unless your skin is feeling especially greasy. Personally, I actually found that once I stopped using a lot of products in the morning, my complexion improved. AND now my cleansers last twice as long!!! Which means less money to spend on cleansers and more to spend on….makeup??? Hahaha. Oh but I was once an avid orange C&C Morning Burst user. I definitely loved the refreshing feeling~~mmmm!

  • Fuuka

I don’t really see a need to use an expensive cleanser in the morning, since your face is already semi-clean. I have been washing my face with kefir in the morning for the past month and it has cleared up my acne AND brightened my skin. Ultra cheap and all natural.

  • Nunuiviet

In my teenage years I’ll definitely buy this stuff. Now I try. To take care much more of my skin. I use philosophy purity, clean Mary from s&g, Mac oil cleanser and Mac lightful foam cleanser and finally bobbi brown lathering tube . I love the latter, I love trying new facial cleansers! But the one I like I stick to them.however when I want to save a bit of money , I try to save it on my primers, like when I just go out for 2 to 3 hours, I don’t use a primer just a moisturizer And a sunscreen I skip on the primer.

  • neutralgirl

I feel the same way muse, in the PM I use my expensive Shiseido cleansers because u know, u wanna remove makeup and the days oils, plus they say that skin repairs itself most at night and I want my face as nice as it can be for that. But in the morning, eh, i actually have this cleanser and it does the job.

    • the Muse

ha same feelings as you neutralgirl ;-D I haul out the big guns in the evening but feel like washing my face in the AM doesn’t require the same products at all ;-D!

  • Isabella Casser

saw and ad for these, will try it funny thing I am getting older and my skin seems to be getting oilier!

    off to Harmon later

    • the Muse

ha really isabella? I’d kill for oily, being dry is the pits :-/

  • KristyQ

LOL – I’m totally with you on the inexpensive AM routine/expensive PM routine 🙂 Too funny. I’ve never thought of it as being weird before, but yup – weird! Haha.

  • Liz

I cheap it up in my morning shower too, but for a different reason. My 13 year old doesn’t hesitate to use anything I haven’tlocked away from him, and he has no idea about portion control. Any time I forget and leave stuff in the shower he’Ll use half of it before I can stop him. The only solution I’ve found is to use cheap stuffI don’t mind seeing wasted. I save the good stuff for night time when I’m awake and can remember to put my stuff away!

    • the Muse

aw man teenagers (boys) don’t get it ;-D LOL! Sorry to hear you better invest in a vault for all your goodies :D!

  • Lauren

I think using an inexpensive cleanser in the morning, and a more expensive one at night is an excellent idea. I feel like you want your skin to be really clean, and somewhat “repair” over night (by using the ‘good stuff’) whereas in the morning you’re just going to most likely put makeup on top anyways. Also the morning burst, especially with a lemon scent would be great for the morning as a “pick-me-up” but maybe not so much at night. I have tried a couple clean and clear cleansers & scrubs in the past but I’m not sure what my favourite is, I think I’m going to pick up something, from the morning burst line, perhaps this one, to prolong the life of my Clinique cleanser!

  • Candy

I brought it today. I’m going to use it tomorrow morning. 🙂

  • Sydney

Whoa nice channel ahaha and I just used the morning burst and I LOVE♡ IT!! The scent is soo good, makes me want to eat it lmfao. So, I have tan skin & since always in the sun I always liked fair light skin. haha Im really happy I found this lil’ guy because I cannot find any papaya soap! I heard lemon and papaya help lighten your skin and it did. Im def gonna try this in the shower nxt time.

  • Jessica

I like this, I just feel the beads in their cleansers aren’t necessary

      • Kayla ❤️❤️

I agree they’re pretty useless…but I have fun popping them when I wash my face with this in the morning!! 🙂

  • Morgan

Question: Some facewashes smell awesome and have everything I want in them like oil free, bursting beads, and the power to fight off makeup and acne. This was one of those facewashes. Even though it is suppose to be used in the morning, do i need to? Is there some scientific reason I should?

    • Mimi

No you can use it in the night too! It’s supposed to be used in the morning since it gives you a tingly feeling that will wake you up! 😀

    • Kayla ❤️❤️

same thing happened to me! But don’t worry, it’s just not opening because there’s a way to lock it for when you travel. There is an arrow on the top of the pump, turn the pump the way the arrow says and pump it a few times, worked for me! If you’re still having trouble I saw a review on it where it shows how to open it. It’s called “Glamourista 16 tries clean and clear” or something very similar to that. It’s on YouTube. Hope this helped & good luck opening it :)) ~Kayla

  • Mimi

Question : Out of all the Clean and Clear morning burst cleansers, which one do you think gives the deepest clean? Thanks Muse! 🙂

    • Kayla ❤️❤️

The detoxifying cleanser because it deep cleans to get rid of all the gunk. 🙂

    • Kayla ❤️❤️

On the clean and clear website it says it’s for all skin types. 🙂 I have combo skin as well. And since combo skin is a mix of oily and dry this is good cuz it’s gel based and will help with the oil. However, for the dry parts this may make it more dry. So overall I would say yes it is, and if you have dryish skin after using it just put some moisturizer on. I do this and it works great! I definitely recommend it. Hope this helped. :))

  • Whatevs 😋

I’m useing this product and it’s making bumps on my skin 😁😁😁😁
