Everyday Minerals Sunlight Color Corrector Review & Swatches

I’m really a big fan of Skin Food Salmon Dark Circle Powder. It’s one of my HG (holy grail) products for brightening my eyes up and holding my concealer in place for all day wear. I actually recently discovered a product that works just as well but prior to that I tried out Everyday Minerals Sunlight Color Corrector as a reader had mentioned it was even better than Salmon Dark Circle Powder.

Gasp!

Really? Better?! How could this be? I instantly ordered it to see for myself and…

A loose mineral powder for fair to medium skin tones that’s yellow tinted and corrects dark under eyes circles or dark spots (such as sun damage) on your face.

Without a doubt this was a great offering as it was a huge jar for $8 that I could easily get right here in the USA rather than dealing with costly airmail shipping to get Skin Food’s version from Korea.

However, that’s about the extent of the good!

The powder is awfully strange. It has a very scratchy quality and applies and blends rather uncomfortably under my eyes. It’s as if it’s made up of a mineral powder and some crunchy fine pieces mixed it. Strange texture that feels very grainy to me. I thought it blended awful and accentuated fine lines badly plus I noticed very little in the ways of concealing or brightening up the darkness I have under my eyes.

I love the generous size however they house it in a rather large flat jar which makes for really messy application. This would be ideal if I was buffing the product into my face as the lid offers a large size working area to buff and tap however for my eyes I don’t need as much product and I find I’m chasing around a small bit of powder in an overly large lid!

  • No one!

  • Anyone with fine lines (this seems to bring them out for the worst).
  • Those wishing to set concealer (I didn’t feel like it blended well enough to offer any real setting power as it began to crease and look badly after application).
  • Those wanting a dupe of Skin Food’s powder.

Sadly, this was a bust for me. At $8 for such a generous size I was quite excited to try it and hopefully replace my Skin Food version with it but sadly this cannot live up to that product at all.

No likey!

Has anyone tried this before?

Thoughts?

I’ve tried Everyday Minerals before and didn’t like their foundation or lip products. I’m not too surprised to hear that other products don’t work very well, either.

  • Kelly

Ahh EM. I adore their shadows, their bases are so much gentler than BM’s..but I have never had luck with any of their correctors. Every time I’ve tried one I’ve just had an opposite effect of what I need.

  • Rachel

I have the old version–smooth texture. It’s good for using on my eyelid/upper eye if I am in a hurry and not using shadow (I wear glasses and the skin is darker there). I can no longer use it as a concealer…it did work, but now I am past the age where it works and it collects in lines under my eyes. I officially give up on powdered concealer. The original version of most of EMs face stuff is just better than it is now, imho.

Oh, I love the Skin Food powder too. I have Sunlight, but did not find it worked well under the eyes either. I’m dying to hear what other product that you discovered that you feel works just as good as the Skin Food!! I’d live not to deal with international shipping. I’ve used some of the HD setting powders, but they don’t brighten as well.

    • the Muse

grace SAME here ;-D Oooo! I’m going to tell you about it shortly *wink* and I hope it’ll work for you as well as me ;D!

      • Grace

Ooohhh…the suspense is killing me. =) I am starting to get “low” (maybe halfway LOL) on my SF powder, but I’ve had it for over a year, so it’s been a great value. Replacing it with an easily accessible version will be awesome, though.

    hey Muse! =)
everyday minerals was the brand that started me on makeup! & their blush in nick nack was my 1st HG blush colour! i went off them for a while but i recently ordered their pressed foundation in light & was sadly disapointed =( very streaky & did not blend well; but i still like the blush. & i like their brushes as well, they are very cost effective even with the international shipping fee.

i recently got the skinfood salmon dark circle eye powder as well after reading your review on it [i use the salmon undereye concealer as well!] however i can’t get it to apply without being cakey =( i have tried with an eyeshadow brush, mini eye kabuki, the puff & even my fingers? is there any technqiue you use? i tried to put as little as possible on but am i supose to put more so it kind of sticks to all the concealer thereby hiding the concealer itself?

ooooh & in my order i got the skinfood lip & cheek creme as well, it’s quite pretty [doesn’t work well on lips imo], so check it out if you’re already doing an order – i got it in the shade apricot, a peachy pink, it’s a bit sheer & looks a tiny bit shiny, good if you want the overall ‘glowy’ look, i don’t use it that much though as my HG creme blush is the becca lip & cheek creme in blossom=)

hey jackie seems reformulation is the culprit here! 🙁 I like using the bobbi brown concealer blending brush! can’t believe it’s cakey sorry to hear it 🙁 since Bobbi doesn’t have the brush for sale outside of exclusive sets perhaps the mac 224 would do the trick? try that one out? ah I have the lip and cheek creme ;-D same issue can’t do on my lips but nice on the cheeks!

  • Wendy

I used to love this product, but I think the new reformulation is awful, for all their products

You might like Silk Naturals Sleep in a Jar

  • Misato-san

I was happy to see you reviewing a mineral product (I always wonder if you are interested into mineral make up or not… I like it a lot!), too bad it isn’t like you hoped at all D:

    • the Muse

misato I’m not much for minerals to be honest. It’s just so overwhelming how many are out there!

      • Misato-san

yes there are so many but if you think about it… it’s the same for not mineral brands 😀
I like variety and I love having so many colours around 😀

        • the Muse

I know myself misato I’d never be able to handle all that variety I’d want one of everything ;-D so I just avoid ha! I got enough addictions already!

  • Cait

This stuff used to be very good. Then the company totally revamped their products, and they’re major crap now. It’s too bad, as this was a nice concealer for me, but it wasn’t meant to be I guess!

  • Annie M

I don’t like that corrector…. the Sunlight Finishing Dust is MUCH MUCH BETTER and I even like it better than the Skin Food one

  • Ashley

Muse, do try the EM Aussie Perk Me Up concealer! It’s great for brightening tired & dull looking eyes 🙂

      • Liane

No! Don’t! I love EM but Aussie Perk Me Up is not a good way to go. Personally I like their Lavender as a color corrector, but for around my eyes I’m happy with just a good concealer (I use EM Instensive Fair Concealer and ZOMFG it’s fantastic. HG Status).
I don’t use everything EM, and not absolutely everything they make is good, but they do have great stuff so don’t get discouraged!

  • Chiara

My sunlight has a totally different texture! And for me, it works like a charm. I have some yellow undertones and i use sunlight every day under my eyes and on my nose and cheeks to correct redness.
For me, this really works very well.

But the one i have isn’t grainy. It’s very nice and smooth.

Actualy, the powder you have reminds me of the sunlight finishing dust. because the finishing dust has a totally different texture, more powdery. The corrector is more “creamy”

    • the Muse

chiara ;-D this is the corrector…..def not creamy to me though 🙁 more grainy!

        • Kamagrian

I was wondering that too! When I read this review, I actually ran off to my dressing table to check out my jar of Sunlight corrector, and it’s definitely silky smooth – no graininess at all. I wonder if it was a bad batch or something?

  • Kathy

oh no!! who might like it/? NO ONE!!!! that’s really awful, thanks for reviewing.

  • annie

Muse, I still don’t see a review on what I suggested from EM since you got the wrong one. Did you get a chance yet?? I’m dying for you to try it and let me know that you love it like i do heheh 😀

  • dean

Woa, so I’m not the only one on earth who’s not satisfied with EM’s concealers. They are not blendable on my skin. But, with so many ppl made good reviews on EM and kinda worshipped this brand, I felt like landing on the wrong planet 😀
Reading your post makes me feel normal again, muse..thanks a lot for reviewing 😉

    • the Muse

lol my pleasure dean ;-D I dunno I wasn’t impressed at all…?! a few folks mentioned that I should try some other products…but haven’t had the chance to do so yet….that’s ok we can sit on our little planet together :D!
