Kat Von D Autograph Pencil Eyeliner Review, Swatches, Photos

Is it going on a year now that Kat Von D released her Autograph Pencil Eyeliners? Yup, I think it was Spring 2010. Eep, can’t believe I’m just getting around to checking ’em out now.

Have you tried them?

A waterproof eyeliner pencil, with a smudge tip and sharpener cap.

I tried two shades and I gotta say my experience with the black versus the colored shade was way better. I absolutely adored the Black Metal Love shade which had an intense, rich black color pay off. The shade wore extremely well on my waterline and just stuck around almost all day! Sweet! The pencil blended beautifully, had a creamy formula that lined easily sans tugging or skipping, plus wore long and strong throughout the day but still managed to easily come off when it was time to remove my makeup!

However….

I didn’t like the green shade I tried. Eyegasm is a shimmering bright jade but the formula seemed a little off when compared to Black Metal Love. This one wasn’t as creamy and the color pay off wasn’t nearly as rich as the black formula. It also had a certain hardness and was lacking in the creamy texture that the Black Metal Love sported.

I have to say I hated the bulky sharpener on the end of each pencil. The packaging rocks as it has a tattooed design along the pencil but the really bulky sharpener on the end of the pencil just ruins it plus makes for a hassle to store the pencil. Grrr!

  • Anyone looking for a rich, waterproof black eyeliner that wears long anywhere you put it!
  • Anyone looking for an easy to apply eyeliner that produces a dramatic finish!

  • Anyone seeking a good colored eyeliner (stick to the black as my experience with the colored version was lacking to say the least).
  • Anyone easily bugged by packaging flaws (I thought the sharpener was heinous, it’s huge and and makes the pencil bulky).

All in all Kat Von D’s Autograph Pencil Eyeliner has a few short comings but still remains on top with me. The black is truly a great one if you’re lemming Urban Decay Perversion at the moment but not wanting to indulge in the full Anniversary Set to get it as this is a richer black shade with good color pay off!

A few minor quirks but all in all not a bad eyeliner at all!

Anyone try?

I love the black as well! I’ve also tried the navy blue, and didn’t find that the formula treated me too different from the black. Maybe it’s just the green that sucks?

In any case, I haven’t been using the black on my waterline because of the shimmer, but it’s good to know that it stays on all day. So few products do that.

maybe just the green now I wanna try the blue vijaya ;-D just to compare! the shimmer didn’t bother me thankfully but wasn’t sure if it was eyesafe always hate not knowing 😛

Would you say that this black liner lasts longer on the waterline for you than Urban Decay’s Zero? Because as much as I ADORE Zero, I might want to try something that lasts a bit longer. It’s not a huge issue for me; I don’t mind touching up every few hours…
Eyegasm looks pretty, but I have it in liquid form already! It’s a really eye-catching shade.

mm yes marina but check out mally beauty first, I did a review today, that stuff STICKS for ages on my waterline ;-D!

I may need to try the black one… I have her autograph liner in black, purple, and brown … (trooper, lapdance, and maya respectively) and I am in LOVE. I use the gel liner by KVD more than any other liner but now I am tempted to try tarte’s liner after seeing it featured in a youtube make up tutorial.
KVD’s is even better than dollywink’s liner which I adore too. <3

and best of all it does not irritate my eyes which some liners do *cough* Sephora brand *cough*…. :3
